Mmmm... no. No it isn't. Drawing != real car. - megaton, on 05/11/2009, -0/+25You have to wear a Master Chief helmet in order to drive?
Also, is that a bottle of whiskey in the last picture? - gheide, on 05/11/2009, -1/+18Is that a jack daniels bottle in the last image??
- Madrick, on 05/11/2009, -1/+17i love how the car design pays no attention to the laws of physics
- inactive, on 05/11/2009, -0/+15I think site got down or something, Here is a post with same car, enjoy this for now:
http://www.yankodesign.com/2009/05/11/honda-hoverc ...
Enjoy Guys!
Sorry! - jnuffnuffnomnom, on 05/11/2009, -0/+10i thought it said F-Zero :(
- bromac, on 05/11/2009, -0/+10Is that a bottle of Jack Daniels sitting next to them in the last shot, where they're fixing the car?
- YME1280, on 05/11/2009, -2/+12I could see the military snatching that idea up before it comes anywhere near retail.
- dumass4u, on 05/11/2009, -0/+7Why do the people look like they stepped out of a low budget Halo video game ripoff?
- Gonzell, on 05/11/2009, -0/+6Yeah, cause I'm going to want to dress like that when I need to go pick up groceries.
- frazw, on 05/11/2009, -0/+5or safety... no crumple zone but the drivers legs
- inactive, on 05/11/2009, -0/+5Hover != flying. And no way Honda would sell anything capable of 350 mph to the public. They are an ultra-conservative company, lawsuits frighten companies like that.
- imautobot, on 05/11/2009, -0/+5There is a good reason why we don't have "The Flying Car" yet...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsFfBB2W7IA - DrDragun, on 05/11/2009, -0/+4I want to see the calculation where two 0.5m diameter fans will lift a car through air. It would be a cool submarine though.
EDIT: Don't post that it's four fans; the back two appear to be for thrust not lift. - clickwir, on 05/11/2009, -0/+4Jack Daniels single barrel
http://images.google.com/images?ei=A6AISvenB6OMtge ... - INDOAZZ, on 05/11/2009, -1/+5Roads? Where we are going, We don't need ROADS!!! Run for it MARTY!
- j0hnc0ry, on 05/11/2009, -0/+4Yeah, that's why they don't make motorcycles.
- joegibes, on 05/11/2009, -0/+4...because their 3d graphic designers are ace.
- megaton, on 05/11/2009, -0/+4I doubt anyone is going to be developing anything of the sort for quite a while. (About the time full body armor is considered, "chic," I reckon.)
Take the turbines, for example. Unless they've managed to create the world's most powerful engine and drivetrain, I doubt very much turbines of that size are going to be able to lift that much weight. And only from the front. (There's a reason helicopter rotors are larger than the body. And located in the center of the vehicle.)
But, hell, say they CAN get the turbines to break the laws of physics. Do you really want two turbines at waist-height (and another two at knee-height) completely exposed like that? "Whoops! My hand slipped.... GWAHHH!!!! MY BODY HAS BEEN TURNED INTO MULCH!!!!!!!"
And, what, are you going to climb out the front over that joystick array? Passengers get real doors, but the driver is left climbing over those thoughtfully-placed superturbines.
Oh, also, apparently forward thrust is going to be a natural property of matter, as there appears to be no way to do anything other than move vertically and spin around.
And really, the passengers are supposed to SHARE an armrest? That's gold...
I'm guessing this "designer" spent more time playing Halo and drinking whiskey than thinking about reality. Honda F-uzo? More like Tard-o. - Listor, on 05/11/2009, -1/+4as Jack as my drink of Choice for 15 years now I would have to say that is deffinately a Jack Daniels logo on the bottle that is not formed like a Jack Daniels bottle.
- Vivifyer, on 05/12/2009, -0/+3flying cars will never take off. .....
- The_Tate, on 05/11/2009, -0/+3The thing that ruins it for me most of all is the wheels. There's no way a tire / wheel combo is going to retain balance enough to be able to be used as a turbine running at the speeds required to produce thrust. It looks cool, but I just don't see how it's possible.
- OsceneInTx, on 05/11/2009, -0/+3doh you beat me to it
- inactive, on 05/11/2009, -0/+3I already have one. It sucks... I been issued two tickets from the Time Police for inappropriate technology in a primitive time zone. Plus, after the Democrats win the Neo-Con-Federate War against the Republican the only band that survived and radio station on the air is Fall-Out-Boy.FM
- inactive, on 05/11/2009, -0/+3Thanks for also finding the mirror and dropping it by :-)
- rupert0, on 05/11/2009, -0/+3Master Chief the white?
- Chamrox, on 05/11/2009, -2/+5I am not an aeronautical engineer, but come on guys, this is BS.
1. How does the driver actually get into his seat?
2. Where is the intake for the rear fans? From the ground?
3. Wheels convert to fans? Seems a bit heavy to me.
4. How does this thing stop? Current vehicles rely on friction, will this one simply turn off the fans and "hit the road"?
5. Power source? Nuclear powered puppies?
Someone is just having fun creating graphics. Nothing to see here, move along. Top speed 350.. that's all? lol - imautobot, on 05/11/2009, -0/+3Well the chic looks friggin hot. The dude looks like a total hoser.
- contradictator, on 05/12/2009, -0/+2SHOW ME YO MOVES!
- sageerrant, on 05/12/2009, -0/+2That... that's not how physics works.
- inactive, on 05/12/2009, -0/+2The writer of the article doesn't seem to understand the concept of concept cars...
- inactive, on 05/11/2009, -0/+2have to?
- OsceneInTx, on 05/11/2009, -1/+3I dont think its a mirror, but same car and a little write up
http://www.yankodesign.com/2009/05/11/honda-hoverc ... - rarson, on 05/12/2009, -0/+2"I'm guessing this "designer" spent more time playing Halo and drinking whiskey than thinking about reality."
He did go to the trouble of rendering some Jack Daniels in the last picture... - inactive, on 05/11/2009, -2/+4Or you can take a ride in this beauty:
http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/the-future-is-now/molle ... - inactive, on 05/12/2009, -0/+2Buried for spelling "news" with a Z.
- julian02392, on 05/11/2009, -1/+3Is that what we're all supposed to dress like in the future?
- JonTheGoose, on 05/11/2009, -0/+2So how do you take off from the ground if the wheels have to fold in to provide thrust?? For that matter how are you supposed to land?? Convert to car mode in mid air and free fall to the ground?
- SigmundX, on 05/11/2009, -0/+2We can still pretend.
*sigh* - moose26, on 05/11/2009, -0/+2/2 WTS [Proper English for Dummies]. PST with offers!
- weister42, on 05/12/2009, -0/+2So instead of boogieman now you'll have to watch out for flying cars driven by old people?
- PartyHearty, on 05/13/2009, -0/+2Class!
- Epic, on 05/11/2009, -0/+1Can fat people drive it? no really I bet fat people are not going to be able to sit in it.
- inactive, on 05/11/2009, -0/+1"concept"
- linagee, on 05/12/2009, -0/+1It's synth-ale.
- PartyHearty, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1It looks the part - right out of a movie. Also looks like a bugger to control
- jpowell180, on 05/14/2009, -0/+1Yes, just like a Hovercraft is an impossible concept - those companies who want to use them as ferries across the English Channel are just ripping people off b/c they know Hovercraft aren't real and never will be.
- ASSASSYN360, on 05/12/2009, -0/+1Those rims are fly.
- Leetamus, on 05/11/2009, -0/+1touche
- Schmich, on 05/11/2009, -0/+1The Skycar is a real car but I'll agree the time isn't near, which is a shame as traffic is just going to get worse.
