- pimpofpixels, on 09/13/2008, -3/+20It's sort of sad. Not only have the Cars produced by other countries gotten cooler than American cars, but American Cars aren't even as cool as they were.
- LogitechG15, on 09/13/2008, -3/+15Really Discovery Channel? 12 pages?
- cleanideas, on 09/13/2008, -0/+9Dugg for "Buick Y-Job". Years later teens would upgrade to the backseat H-Job and B-Job version.
- dojonz, on 09/13/2008, -1/+9They missed one: http://cache.jalopnik.com/assets/resources/2008/06 ...
- adrenalmedulla9, on 09/13/2008, -4/+12You said less than 33.
In the picture, it's 33.
So not less.
LIAR! :O - MasterChi, on 09/13/2008, -1/+9I wish these were the cars of today (the future back then). The cars nowadays are all the same shapes, same colors, same crap. I'm tired of looking at the same boring cars all day and especially the same green across every manufacturer. Use Two-Tone or even Three-tone colors like they did back in the day to distinguish their cars from the competitors. I want to go back in time :(
- mjklaser, on 09/13/2008, -0/+6I wish someone would design a kit car of that beautiful 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 Concept to be built on the chassis of the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky (with a 300hp, 3.0L supercharged engingine, of course). I would mortgage the house for that...
- adrenalmedulla9, on 09/13/2008, -2/+8Wow, having each picture separated on to their own little individual sites was an awesome idea! So convenient!
- balibones, on 09/12/2008, -1/+7The GM Futurliner looks like a giant old-school refrigerator on wheels.
- d4ftpunk, on 09/13/2008, -1/+7Enough with the multiple pages!!!
All pictures in ONE ***** page, is it too much to ask? - MOJIRA, on 09/13/2008, -1/+6The most awesome balance of future and retro; this could almost be a concept car of the past:
http://images.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&safe=of ...
It also looks like it could be a Batmobile; or Bruce Wayne's daily driver. - Michas, on 09/13/2008, -0/+5Lame navigation and super lame for ads.
- biofusion, on 09/13/2008, -0/+4"Instead of a rear-view mirror, the car had a rear-mounted camera that transmitted images of the road to dashboard TV screens. Just in case all that stuff was too difficult for a driver to master, the Firebird III also was equipped with an automated guidance system, designed to follow directional radio signals given off by future high-tech highways that, unfortunately, have yet to be built." *****. That's crazy. I mean it was 1958, we are just starting to make this kind of stuff standard in cars today.
- mrdorian, on 09/13/2008, -0/+4The 1958 Firebird III looks really cool!!
- JakeBC, on 09/13/2008, -0/+4Harley Earl was brilliant.
I want an El Kanino!!! - s4g4n, on 09/13/2008, -0/+4I'll take a F-88 please.
- Paranoidmarvin, on 09/13/2008, -0/+4Futuristic *American* Concept Cars From the Past.
But seriously, there are so pretty cool cars in there that almost look modern - Murrabbit, on 09/13/2008, -0/+4I like the '58 firebird III, but it NEEDS MOAR FINS!
- liquisoft, on 09/13/2008, -0/+3I love old American auto design.
Anyone ever go to the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles? There's a roadster there, the Tetra Hedra. That thing is ***** beautiful. - Zapkiller, on 09/13/2008, -0/+2I think it is.
- crownedgriffin, on 09/13/2008, -1/+3That page had ads?
- inactive, on 09/13/2008, -1/+3I wasn't counting my own digg.
- secrity, on 09/13/2008, -0/+2That was titled "Harley Earl's Concept Cars"; the Tucker was designed by Preston Tucker.
- kocurejd, on 09/13/2008, -0/+2I refuse to read this article.
- skinny01, on 09/13/2008, -0/+2They didn't mention the rifle holders on #5? That's what it looks like at least, 6 rifle stocks sticking out which might be true since this was for a cattle ranch.
- NoozeHound, on 09/13/2008, -0/+1You're really a very clever dog aren't you. You must be a dog, or possibly a car park attendant.
Or do you play an exceptionally long game of 'car colours' and you lucked out with green. Next time pick silver, that always wins theses days. - dtimoney, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1What has happened to american desugners? Cars today are just lame copies of foriegn designs or terrible original concepts...
- inactive, on 09/14/2008, -0/+1diggs.
- voze, on 09/13/2008, -0/+1Ahhh, I dream of a retro-fi world...
- PropaneTosser, on 09/13/2008, -0/+1Great retro-futuristic designs! Anybody else getting a Fallout vibe from these pictures?
- passedoutghost, on 09/14/2008, -0/+1Hey. YOU.
***** off.
Nobody likes a rude whiny bitch.
If it's this much of a deal to you. STOP COMING HERE. - SerifTheRobot, on 09/13/2008, -0/+1Number 3, the big van thing, looks like the SWAT vans from Batman the Animated Series. Number 8 looks like it could be made today. Really tasteful.
- farfegnugen, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1It's amazing that it was from 1958 and had a rear-view camera. It took almost 50 years for that feature to become "mainstream," and even now it's only on the higher-end cars.
- MisterFurious, on 09/14/2008, -0/+1There used to be a Futurliner parked in my neighborhood. To avoid towing, the owner always moved it to the other side of the street every 72 hours, but it never moved from that stretch of pavement, Then one day, I noticed a paddy wagon in the original "Batman" animated series that looked just like it, so the next time I went to San Diego Comic Con, I asked Paul Dini where the design idea came from. He said it came from the same bus! I never knew it was so rare.
- mstachiw, on 09/13/2008, -0/+1only worthwhile design is the car that had the fully stocked bar behind the front seat...
outside of that all of these concept cars look bloated, bulky, or overdesigned - skyshoes, on 09/14/2008, -0/+1Why does all this crap keep popping up while trying to simply check out this weak display of this genius' work. Discovery channel needs to re-evaluate their horrible site. Couldn't get past the second obnoxious picture.
- MrsRodted, on 09/13/2008, -0/+1Its a bird.... its a plane.... its both!!
- TeflonDom, on 09/13/2008, -0/+1I suppose it's too much to ask for all that on one page?
- ianuk11, on 12/26/2008, -0/+0nice
http://ianuk11.bravejournal.com/ - rriccardi, on 09/13/2008, -0/+0What about the 1955 Lincoln Futura, a one-off joint venture with Ghia Motors? Became pretty famous after Ford dumped the idea: http://barrisbilt.com/. Click "Futura NY 1955", the lower right corner thumbnail. And some vintage video of those still photos: http://avalonmm.tv/barris/category/lincoln-futura
- scarwars, on 09/13/2008, -3/+3Where's Tucker?
- HarryRag, on 09/13/2008, -0/+0Number 8, Oldsmobile F-88, damn that looks hot!!!!!!
- tonyalfaust, on 12/18/2008, -0/+0nothing to put the boys, especially Dean Winchester, behind bars for good. For his part, Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) has bigger concerns than being hunted by an FBI agent. After making a deal with a demon to bring his dead brother Sam back to life at the end of season two, the eldest Winchester has a
