- techguru2006, on 12/13/2008, -3/+23$4,000 for a car with pedals. Less than $100 for a Huffy. Hmmm... which should I choose?
- t3hmyth, on 12/13/2008, -0/+17I'm not sure I have enough self-esteem that I'm willing to destroy to drive that around in public.
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -1/+16Yabba, Dabba, ZEM?
- colonhyphenp, on 12/14/2008, -0/+70-35 in 60 seconds.

- xxMaxaroni, on 12/14/2008, -0/+6"The team also hopes the United States Postal Service will replace their gas-powered neighborhood vehicles with their ZEM."
As if the postmen don't have to wake up early enough to get to their low paying boring job, "good news everyone! you'll all be getting a little exercise!" - coldkill3r, on 12/14/2008, -0/+6Reported and blocked.
- Secret7000, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5Just need some giant ribs and we're all set.
- pheyze, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5Interesting concept, sure. But quite impractical in America—pedaling the first 30 seconds to reach 5mph? I don't know a driver who wouldn't pull next to this little thing and shoot the finger after being stuck behind one after a light turns green.
- moredown, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5does it come with Betty Rubble?
- Tomboys, on 12/14/2008, -0/+4Now that's what you call green!
- cubicledrone, on 12/14/2008, -0/+4Could you please take the pole out of your ass?
- DragonForce4, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3kill yourself right now
- Spoomeister, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3Will people stop ***** around and give us an actual electric CAR? Not a glorified go-kart, not something for short jaunts for groceries around town, not a hybrid thing that cheats and defaults to gas because its electric motor is a pussy, I mean a true electric car, strong enough to go cross-country on a few charges, muscular enough to tow one of those u-haul trailers behind it, a car you plug in at night and then go anywhere you want all day every day.
Electric. Car.
Do we need to use smaller words or something here? - jcsoc, on 12/14/2008, -1/+4I like it
- dixieleopard, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3Just doesn't seem practical.
- TheMachine1, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3"it could be mass-produced for a mere $4,000."
There are likely already ultralight electric vehicles like that. Golf carts for example. Few are likely road legal in the US. - freebird09, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3Forgive my lack of links, but aren't there many better electrical car designs already out there?
- radu79, on 12/14/2008, -1/+4That's not the most aerodynamic car ever made. In fact even the cars made in 1900 were better from this point of view..
- Target91, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3I'd like the source for this 300-500 year supply of gas. Or was this sarcasm?
- inactive, on 12/14/2008, -1/+3Yet another "green" car that looks like it was designed by Picasso on LSD.
- Czechxican, on 12/14/2008, -1/+3I think they forgot aerodynamics affect fuel economy.
- Frixionburne, on 12/14/2008, -1/+3The issue is worse than that.
a) the beast is a brick. It looks like they cut up a concession stand from the football stadium and taped it together to make that. Bad aerodynamics AND its supposed to be a hybrid. You can't make a ***** hybrid car while still giving it a drag coefficient akin to that of a front end loader.
b) flames... really? You know all those pictures that you've seen of ***** decaling their chevy cavaliers with flames? This is worse. Not only are they green, but they put them on a hybrid... Oh how self defeating. - Spoomeister, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2...because I know I have.
(what? stop looking at me like that. it's the giggle. and the legs.) - Taiyoryu, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2And here I thought the Honda Element was an ugly box on wheels. I stand corrected.
- phosphite, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2Insecurity shouldn't be a reason for humans to ruin the world by driving "cool" large inefficient vehicles. Move past it, be a man, drive a slow electric car!
You can use the money you save to buy large pectoral muscles to impress those ladies! - nightManCometh, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2You serious? O,o
- iletumi, on 12/15/2008, -0/+2Aerodynamics screw with you even while riding a normal bike.
- Target91, on 12/14/2008, -0/+1Nice concept and he should definitely develop it more, but what if it rains, or worse snows?
- rolf, on 12/14/2008, -1/+2It's called a bike. More passengers? A tandem or multiple bicycles. Each one probably takes 1/100th the material this does.
- gfnw, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1Protip: I don't want to pedal. That's why I bought a CAR.
- coldkill3r, on 12/14/2008, -0/+1Nice insult.
- scoottie, on 12/14/2008, -0/+1except Fred didnt use pedals but feet to ground
- inactive, on 12/14/2008, -4/+5All this is a giant waste now that gas is so cheap and getting cheaper. When gas is less than a dollar a gallon and over a 300-500 year supply, looking elsewhere is a waste of time and resources.
- Logrusmage, on 12/14/2008, -0/+1Oh yeah... their will TOTALLY be a deman for a car with pedals...
-_- - parkermauney, on 12/14/2008, -0/+1Fancy
- jowSithm, on 12/14/2008, -0/+1I really like the idea! I hope he takes it farther. ...But unfortunately you're right.
- markl3ster, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1BTW: Kenny?
- boomchockalocka, on 12/14/2008, -0/+1/USPS
- apeweek, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1Sorry, this has already been done, and lots better.
http://translate.google.com/translate?langpair=aut ... - rif42, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1A car for postal service delivery, that requires two persons to pedal...
Tell me, is this some project from the "no university left behind" program? - unxconformed, on 12/17/2008, -0/+1Yup.
- trev0006, on 12/27/2008, -0/+1That would be awesome to roll in front of a high end restaurant valet.
http://www.dpccars.com/ - Ogopogo, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1Zero Emissions ? .. not likely after pedaling away from Taco Bell and a fill-up of re-fried beans.
- brettuthius, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1My silly joke was definitely a stretch, but rolf's comment make me roll on laughing at the floor. Still glad someone got it.
- markl3ster, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1Holy crap! My senior project made it on Digg! BTW, this was done by Engineers, not design majors. This was a more of a proof of concept project done by students, so sorry if it doesn't look so great. Everything was pretty much done by a whole lot of us.
- unxconformed, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1Mark, you should have let some of us AEs design an aerodynamic body for that thing. I remember last year when tsu wanted you guys to stick a wind turbine on that thing to generate power, I about laughed my ass off. Still its cool you guys finally got something working.
- 1hrSleep, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1For 4,000 I'd rather just get very, very, very nice road bike.
- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1Thomas Edison?
- markl3ster, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1Yess! Wind turbine for perpetual motion! Maybe if everyone's around later down the line, there will be changes in the aesthetics/aerodynamics.
