- ironeus, on 10/02/2008, -0/+25Concept cars from the 60s & 70s never quite came into fruition in terms of design. It's interesting to see how these 21st century models will evolve.
- b9gh47q, on 10/02/2008, -1/+20Why can't they be pretty? I'm starting to think they're doing it on purpose.
- HappyGamer, on 10/02/2008, -0/+18Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some cars today are pretty weird looking, we're just used to them.
- leodavinci, on 10/02/2008, -0/+13The Audi RS 6 is friggen awesome.
- MikeNumbers1, on 10/02/2008, -0/+10I guess they will grow on us
- bankhead, on 10/02/2008, -0/+8Some of them might be futuristic and ugly but also a lot of those pictures were concept cars! These models go through numerous adjustments before production, (if the model is even manufactured). Look how much the Chevrolet Volt changed throughout that process. The Honda Insight & Ford Focus RS will both be solid cars! This link has a bunch of the cars featured at the show with multiple pictures for each. http://www.motortrend.com/auto_shows/coverage/100/ ...
- sbcea, on 10/02/2008, -0/+8I think today's 'futurecars' are closer to looking like real cars on the outside and not so scary UFO like they were in the 60s.
- inactive, on 10/02/2008, -1/+9With the exception of one of two, they all look very modern and cool. Wouldn't have called them ugly at all.
The simple fact that they are able to work the aerodynamics into a way that the cars actually still look like cars is pretty good also! - nandres, on 10/02/2008, -0/+8if you look back and see what people in the past thought the future (present now) would be, it is enough to make you LOL. I think the same will happen in the future with this article
- AmyVernon, on 10/03/2008, -0/+7I really liked the Citroen, personally...
- Popeiler, on 10/03/2008, -0/+5A 4-door Lambo? wtf?
- BoneheadFarker, on 10/03/2008, -0/+4Those concept cars did eventually see production. But not until after going through a rigorous process to strip all design ingenuity out and turn it into a mostly bland but slightly unique design that would be sold to the widest audience possible.
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3The Honda Insight looks the hottest of them all!
- krische, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3I dunno, I think it looks nearly the same as the prius, which isn't really a looker either.
- travbrack, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3That lambo is the ugliest thing ever
- casbboy, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2We should play a guessing game.
How many coats of wax were put on these cars to make them so abnormally shiny? I'm going with 8 - chrisinsocalif, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2I am glad the eco-friendly cars look more like real cars than little toys from the past.
- Infidelcastr0, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2Give me that Estoque.
- FrankTheTank17, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2No car can ever be as ugly as the Prius.
- krische, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1It says so right in the digg description.
- Ghoztt, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1I like a few. Especially the cockpits.
- Tobey, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1Yeah, the Insight looks pretty sweet. Not sure I like the instrument cluster though, there's a little too much going on there...
- AlienMushroom, on 10/03/2008, -1/+2Do fuel-efficiency = ugliness?
- krische, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1Is it just me or does the Chevy Cruze at the end look alot like a BMW 3 series?
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1the chevy volt really turned out ugly.
- MarsSentinel, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1Right now people want it to be known that they're green because green is fashion and not function. If the "green cars" (oxymoron alert) looked like other cool cars then the green-chic aspect would fail.
Green has and is developing its own aesthetic, which probably won't agree with the legacy car aesthetic we grew up with, which is why you don't think they look pretty. - Biosfear01, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1long lamborghini is long
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1Insight interior design is like, making me excited in the pants
- doublefelix, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1I thought it kind of looked like an aerodynamic Pontiac Aztec. Made me wonder if it had a pop-out camper in the back.
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -1/+2Fuel efficient shouldn't dominate the future, alternate fuel should. Doesn't matter how efficient the car is if its still costing an arm and a leg to fill it, only perk is you fill it less often. Still using a resource thats on its way to depletion, there are so many viable alternatives in the works already that any glance into the future of cars should completely remove petroleum fuel.
- ucccft, on 10/03/2008, -2/+2Those have to be the most ugliest cars I have ever seen, All of them are just puke ugly!
- Spoot77, on 10/03/2008, -0/+0Was this at the Paris Motor Show? I can't tell from the captions.
- paulmer2003, on 10/03/2008, -1/+1Uh, concept cars have *always* looked "funky". Go look at concept cars from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's.
- digghasnoethics, on 10/03/2008, -1/+1I'm sorry, but with the exception of the NuVu and the Cruze every single one of those looks good - miles better than the pig ugly, slab sided typical US design.
Its called "Aerodynamics" - eleven, on 10/03/2008, -1/+1That lambo is the sexiest thing ever.
