- TubbyCat, on 05/11/2009, -5/+90One page.. perhaps?
- mrnathan, on 05/12/2009, -11/+87Well I stopped reading after clicking through to the second image ... these don't appear to be easter eggs, just things you wouldn't of known unless you owned the car ... kinda different. Seriously though ... this is just a list of little known features of cars you've never owned, rather than a list of sneaky easter eggs.
Also the photoshop work on the header banner is so bad it hurts :( - rwert, on 05/11/2009, -5/+66Still nothing can beat the easter egg of "not working" I found in the engine of a five-year-old Toyota Corolla. Boy now that was a design feature that sucked eggs.
- oda1, on 05/12/2009, -1/+39one time I got this car from this guy I met behind a grocery store. There were a lot of easter eggs in it. Like crack in the glove compartment.
- borez, on 05/12/2009, -4/+42Don't know about Easter egg but the design layout of that click through article is a rotten egg.
- TheAutoInsider, on 05/22/2009, -2/+38The Ford GT headlights gave a pretty damn cool hidden message.
- dalectrics, on 05/12/2009, -4/+33This list blows so hard, and what a crappily designed site. I've seen better user interaction from a Spot the Dog pop-up book.
Buried, concreted over and sold to the highest bidder for condo development. - insky60, on 05/12/2009, -1/+26I heard there's a car out there that if you drive it backwards it starts saying demonic things.
- sebedard, on 05/12/2009, -3/+23those "easter eggs" were quite rubbish to say the least. except for maybe the cup holder i wouldn' t even qualify those as easter eggs
- verkon, on 05/12/2009, -0/+16Those volvo headlights are freaking awesome
- pirategonzo, on 05/12/2009, -0/+15First comment on the page:
"A girl once had an easter egg for me. It was herpes" - rblancarte, on 05/12/2009, -1/+13Too bad this isn't one of them.
- Asvetic, on 05/12/2009, -0/+11Most annoying user interface ever.
- anarchyx34, on 05/12/2009, -1/+12None of these are easter-eggs. Someone needs to tell Jalopnik the definition of an easter egg. For example, turn on fog lamps and wipers while holding fan-speed up button and confetti comes out of the vents. THAT's an easter egg.
- udee79, on 05/12/2009, -0/+9My first car was a 1968 Pontiac Catalina. The light indicating the high beams were on was a tiny silhouette of Chief Pontiac himself.
- dystra, on 05/12/2009, -0/+8in high school i bought a 92 Maxima at a Carmax close to downtown Houston and found a bunch of shotgun shells stuffed in between the back seat and the trunk. is that an easter egg?
- sorepheet, on 05/12/2009, -0/+8The old school Cadillacs had an easter egg in which a dead body could fit in the trunk. Or is that considered a feature? Oh no, Jalopnik has me confused about the difference between a design feature and an easter egg, well I'm off to Wikipedia.
- doctechnical, on 05/12/2009, -0/+8Agreed, this article completely fails at understanding what an "Easter Egg" is. True Easter eggs are hidden and do not reveal themselves until a specific set of conditions have been meant, generally involving one or more actions. Say, if you turned the radio on, tuned it to 1000khz AM, turned on the windshield wipers and the four-ways then flipped the high-beams on and off three times... then a message from the manufacturer starts scrolling across the radio's display, perhaps with the names of the designers of the car. THAT would be a bleeding Easter Egg.
- Mootabolife, on 05/12/2009, -0/+7That was an Easter Lemon.
- baseman16, on 05/12/2009, -0/+7dugg for the first comment on that page. HA!
- stk198323, on 05/12/2009, -0/+7Wow so an option you pay for is now considered an Easter egg! Stupid jalopnick!
- Kuci06, on 05/11/2009, -5/+11Dodge Challenger cup holder under the hood >>>>>>
- sageerrant, on 05/12/2009, -0/+6On a laptop.
- Nishnabotna, on 05/12/2009, -0/+6Buried for all the damn clicking.
- pfloraday, on 05/11/2009, -8/+14Jalopnik makes some good lists.
- slym2k, on 05/12/2009, -0/+6If you put the Konami code into the Ford Pinto, you get 30 extra lives.
Just kidding.
It explodes. - karan1003, on 05/11/2009, -1/+7i love the whole jake concept with the vette's. Evil yet fun.
- stk198323, on 05/12/2009, -1/+6Well to be fair there is a few Easter eggs in there, maybe 3 or 4 of them but for sure the first two are not Easter eggs and for sure the Porsche one isn't, if you can't see the shape of your key fob right away then I think your way too blind to be legally allowed to drive said car!
- dave333, on 05/12/2009, -1/+6Turn the wheel L, R, L, R, L, L, R, R, and press Accelerator to unlock Rainbow Road
- tomharrow, on 05/12/2009, -0/+5missing from the list is something very cool i found in my 5th generation (2007) VW Golf. The metal bit that makes the shape for the drink holders pulls out and actually doubles as a bottle opener!
- BoneStamp, on 05/12/2009, -0/+5Another Toyota Easter Egg:
http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/29/reports-of-aggr ... - Kosgey69, on 05/12/2009, -1/+6Nice job on mimicking what the author wrote.
- onederboy, on 05/12/2009, -0/+4That was awesome. Your comment made me choke on my coffee, and don't ask how because I don't know how it happened either!
- heyradioguy, on 05/12/2009, -2/+6Wouldn't call them Easter Eggs... If there were a design element with a hidden purpose (ie an odd shaped cup holder that fits only Red Bull or if all the stereo presets were setup for the designers favorite radio stations) then you could call it an Easter Egg. A KeyFab shaped like the car it opens??? It's a wonder anyone noticed!
- m0llusk, on 05/12/2009, -1/+5This article is nothing but click farming. They want you to click on each one in order to generate more page views to display more ads to pay their bills. If there were something real there, then that might make sense, but this is just lame.
- Anand999, on 05/12/2009, -0/+4That picture does look fake but the pedals are real. They're a £80 option on the car. Now, who'd pay more than $100 for those pedals? Who knows.
You can find a more realistic looking picture of the pedals here:
http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/2274 ... - Falldog, on 05/12/2009, -0/+3There's an Easter egg hidden in the article, the odd lack there of. My car comes with a full size spare that -matches- the rest of my rims. What do you think of that egg, Jalopnik? I could shoehorn in more if you'd like.
- Schralpy, on 05/12/2009, -0/+3Lemon law that *****.
- inactive, on 05/12/2009, -1/+4Will inputing the Konami code make my car go faster?
- 2007GT, on 05/12/2009, -0/+3I like what I saw on the Renault Twingo lol
- geoken, on 05/12/2009, -0/+3Not only that, but Porsche has done this in the past with other cars so it isn't exactly a surprise.
- AcousticBoom, on 05/12/2009, -2/+5These easter eggs suck
- inactive, on 05/12/2009, -1/+4An interesting list of curious details, but I wouldn't call them "easter eggs", they're not exactly hidden and they're not all that unusual.
- velveetaavenger, on 05/12/2009, -0/+3Looks like they want people to take the party on the road.
- zrcochran, on 05/12/2009, -0/+3Wow, I'm surprised they don't mention the easter eggs in Scions. By pressing an odd combination of buttons and turning the car off and on you can get the head unit to display "Scion" in Japanese and a couple of other hidden messages.
http://www.car-forums.com/s16/t9746.html - sorepheet, on 05/12/2009, -0/+3An easter egg for the site should have been banging on the keyboard with clenched fists could have automatically listed all 10 "examples" of easter eggs in cars on the same page.
- zrcochran, on 05/12/2009, -0/+3I just found this for all the Scion owners who want to try it (if you didn't know about it already) This is a couple of messages that you can make your head unit display when you turn on your car:
"WhatMovesYou"
press and hold 'A' and 'TEXT' simutaneously and turn the key so 'ACC' is off.
"Scion=A+B+C"
from the AM setting, press and hold "FOLDER UP' and 'SCAN' simultaneously and turn the key so 'ACC' is off.
"(scion in japanese)"
insert cd and set to track number 2, press and hold 'Folder Down' and 'Text' simultaneously and turn the key so 'ACC' is off.
Custom Welcome screen
to create your own custom message, press and hold 'M' and turn the key so 'ACC' is off. You now have one minute to use the '+' and '-' buttons to scroll through any ASCII characters. Use the 'A' button to enter your characters. - rblancarte, on 05/12/2009, -2/+5Of course they put one in there, they knew you would be working on the car a lot, so you needed a place to hold your drink.
- rossisdead, on 05/12/2009, -1/+4What's the Easter Egg for the Nissan Cube? That it's ugly as *****?
- jeshakespeare, on 05/12/2009, -0/+2Some of these are tenuous at best. A snowflake on the Mustang air intake? These guys at Jalopnik are impressed far too easily
