- eastwood24, on 04/06/2009, -5/+496Fine by me. I like to think my manual transmission is a security gaurd against potential theives.
- ninjacob, on 04/06/2009, -40/+490They should have never let women start driving.
- AmyVernon, on 04/06/2009, -17/+419I find this amazing, because manual is more fun to drive, too. But when we got a brand-new Corolla, we couldn't get one w/a stick, because the dealer had none.
- WriterSD, on 04/06/2009, -11/+209I always preferred stick shifts until I moved to a city with huge traffic problems. It was not fun having to shift gears so much, so when I bought a new car a few years ago, I opted for an automatic. If I had wanted a stick shift, the car would have been special ordered because they didn't keep any at the dealership.
- theorn, on 04/06/2009, -4/+192I totally disagree. A manual transmission makes a car with a smaller power plant a lot more fun. You get to control when you go from high torque (relatively) higher acceleration to low torque more efficient driving.
You don't have to drive a car that has huge acceleration to have fun. Manual transmissions are about feeling like you have control of the vehicle. - manlyandy, on 04/06/2009, -2/+174The jokes for this one almost write themselves.
- bdbr, on 04/06/2009, -3/+151My daughter learned to drive on a stick. She gives boys a hard time when they can't.
- Pimpalicious316, on 04/06/2009, -1/+136you'd be surprised how much fun an econo-box can be with the addition of a manual transmission. my winter beater is a '95 escort hatch with 5 speed manual. it's a slow as hell 1.8L but between it's relatively light weight and the manual transmission it is fun to toss around. i wouldn't own it with an auto.
- ThanatosST, on 04/06/2009, -9/+129I dugg you down just so I could digg you up twice.
- whatduh, on 04/06/2009, -9/+119Comments like this one make me wish for the ability to give more than one thumbs up.
- dalittle, on 04/06/2009, -4/+114No, I did not read the comment correctly, I thought it read automatic. I am an idiot.
- jcaino, on 04/06/2009, -7/+114Wrong. Even a Corolla with a stick is more fun than an automatic Corolla. Tad quicker, better gas mileage - depending on your driving habits.
- inactive, on 04/06/2009, -59/+156IMO a stick is only more fun if the car is a performance car. Corolla not so much.
- Blisshead, on 04/06/2009, -1/+75Did you read his comment correctly?
- borez, on 04/06/2009, -5/+78The gear stick (UK) is my favourite bit of driving, it's what driving is all about. ***** that boring automatic *****, I can't even see the point of an automatic performance car, what's that about.
- dms105, on 04/06/2009, -6/+76Your daughter makes penises hard.
- radarplane, on 04/06/2009, -0/+68Actually, I think a stick makes the weaker cars more driveable. I have a Civic with a stick, which just seems stronger than an automatic.
- Shwaavay, on 04/06/2009, -0/+64Most car thieves do not star in major motion pictures, and they can't drive sticks cause they are dumb as dirt.
- Vesuvias, on 04/06/2009, -0/+63Dugg for admitting brain-fart moment...
- BeShirtHappy, on 04/06/2009, -6/+69I haven't driven a stick shift in about 10 yrs. I do miss it.
- johnnybluejeans, on 04/06/2009, -8/+68I've never purchased an automatic car. Don't really plan on it either.
- namtlade, on 04/06/2009, -2/+59I disagree completely, even driving a 1.0L toyota yaris (yes I know...) i'd still hate to have an automatic. There's just so much fun to revving it really hard, trying to change gear as fast as you can. I'd find driving so much more boring without a manual car, no matter what it was.
- Dinsdale77, on 04/06/2009, -11/+66It depends on the car. There is also a dramatic increase in the number of trucks and SUVs on the road compared to 1980. Stick shifts are now primarily found in performance cars, because the manufacturers know that the people who want stick shifts want it in a sportier car. What's the point of a stickshift in a car that would be boring no matter what?
- BassMasterP, on 04/06/2009, -1/+49Some people want to ride in their car
Some people want to drive their car - existentialduck, on 04/06/2009, -3/+51my first car was a stick shift, or "standard".. guess it's not standard anymore!
it was fun, but it kinda sucked in rush hour traffic - drmangrum, on 04/06/2009, -27/+74Not if I have anything to say about. I hate driving Awfulmatics.
- cheddaro, on 04/06/2009, -3/+50Are you the man that coined "Gaystation 3" too?
You're a genius! - WordsnCollision, on 04/06/2009, -5/+50Loved my old 4- and 5-speeds but i never tried a column-shift 3-on-the-tree... never wanted to neither.
- Charmape, on 04/06/2009, -1/+44I remember reading the news about this crook who tried to steal a manual transmission car. He got in and got back out because he couldn't drive one :P
- jisrael, on 04/06/2009, -1/+43I'm pretty sure Jason Bourne proved that ***** cars are fine as long as they're a stick...

You're welcome. - bobburn1, on 04/06/2009, -6/+46"the macho truck propelled by a driver with skill has gone the way of the buggy whip."
The author is pretty damn full of himself. It does not take much "skill" to drive a manual transmission. It took me a couple days to master it when I was 15. It's not rocket science. - wjlaw100, on 04/06/2009, -4/+43What do you mean. I have a 5 speed, and manage to text, drink coffee, read the paper, all while driving my stick like I'm doing right n
- inactive, on 04/06/2009, -1/+38In UK, you will have a hard time finding an automatic. Everyone drives a manual. They even have seperate driving licenses for manual and automatic cars (manual can drive both). I have driven both, and personally enjoy manual even though the cars here are underpowered. I love the feeling of rowing through the gears and be in total control of what gear you want to be in. Automatic cars tend to be in the wrong gear at the wrong time which can be dangerous in slippery conditions. I am sure they've improved by a lot though.
- Jektal, on 04/06/2009, -1/+3821 gears is a few too many for my tastes, thanks.
- RealmDown, on 04/06/2009, -7/+416-speed Tiberon. Manual shift is SO much more fun to drive.
- schnikies79, on 04/06/2009, -6/+40My car is a auto, my truck is standard. I almost always pick the truck because it's a stick. Dunno how to explain it, I just feel more in control of the vehicle and the driving experience.
I don't think I'll buy a automatic again. - esteskid, on 04/06/2009, -0/+34luckily his computer flew forward and something hit the 'post' button before it got destroyed
- NegativeDigg, on 04/06/2009, -2/+35Wow, so many options. I don't know which one to choose... a simple Ha Ha will do for now.
ok, I got one... If I tell your daughter I can't drive stick, will she give me a hard time? - Samohtneas, on 04/06/2009, -2/+35These days you'll only be seeing them in sports models or performance trims on certain vehicles. I will drive manual until the day they officially stop producing them, or I'll keep driving old cars! Long live the 6 speed!
- clichecow, on 04/06/2009, -5/+37Although I prefer manuals and they are more fun to drive, don't be a pretentious douche about it.
- JCEEZ, on 04/06/2009, -4/+35I agree and disagree..... Much funner to drive a performance car that's stick, on an open road. Unfortunately I go 20mph for 45 miles twice a day... and the it gets to be a pain in the butt.
- Thud, on 04/06/2009, -1/+32Word... a car without much low-end torque will feel very sluggish with an automatic tranny.
However, when you have to keep changing gears manually, it makes it more difficult to drink your coffee, send text messages, and shave. - Bhima, on 04/06/2009, -0/+30I've been driving a stick so long I don't even know I'm shifting. I get much better economy. I can use a much smaller engine to get where I want to go.
Why do I need to give up my fuel economy to a torque converter?
Why does a stick need to be fun for us to choose to use it? - rushiku, on 04/06/2009, -2/+32I'm seeing a lot of whining about driving manual in traffic, if one stops driving with an 'automatic' style and starts driving their manual like a manual, this is not a problem. Hint: there's no law saying you must be 3-5 feet from the car in front of you at all times. Let them roll out a bit, pursue slowly and maintain a constant, slow speed, brake only if absolutely necessary. (this will do wonders for your fuel consumption as well)
- smashingmonkey, on 04/06/2009, -2/+32I *wish* women would start driving. That would be vastly preferable to what they actually are doing behind the wheel.
- laim, on 04/06/2009, -7/+36drive a semi. They are still all manual transmissions
- d3m0n1z3d, on 04/06/2009, -1/+29I generally try to do that, but then 4 cars zip infront of you, and proceed to ride their brakes for the next 3 miles.
- bluehouse, on 04/06/2009, -3/+31it depends on the car. I wish my wife's hyundai was an automatic but I would have never bought the Audi TT with an automatic transmission. Standards really suck if you are stuck in traffic so I think it depends on what your commute is like. Yes you get better gas mileage with a stick shift but it gets old when you have 20-30 minutes of stop and go traffic
- inactive, on 04/06/2009, -3/+31I really enjoy my 6 speed manual 350Z. I can't imagine someone getting a car like that with an automatic transmission... I mean, wtf?
