- osirislink, on 12/10/2007, -2/+46Looks just like the ones that are already out.
- Eshestun, on 12/10/2007, -2/+38Mazda! Bring back the RX-7!
- airencracken, on 12/10/2007, -1/+24Bring back the RX-7 with some balls. KTHXBYE.
- keitho, on 12/10/2007, -0/+9i hope it ends up being more reliable, having better low end torque, and much improved fuel economy over the current model. I average 19mpg right now and i rarely get over 4k with mine not to mention the 7 or 8 times its been in for service.
- DaviDaviDaviD, on 12/10/2007, -2/+10Mazda can't be trying that hard with this one. Looks nearly exactly the same as the current one. Here is a quick comparison:

- samdu, on 12/10/2007, -1/+8Ditto. The RX-8 is nice and all, but it's no RX-7.
- MikeDawg, on 12/10/2007, -1/+7You know, I'm caught in such a hard place. I really like the looks of these Mazda RX-8s, I guess I'm a little disappointed that they haven't been able to "update" the rotary engine to get any better gas mileage, or any *huge* performance gains.
However, I still hate Ford, and refuse to drive a Ford. I wish I could slip this car past my Ford hatred. - Shiftgood, on 12/10/2007, -1/+7Are sales that good of the current RX-8 that they decided to keep the design?
- jasmus, on 12/10/2007, -0/+6Well, looks just like a current model. I have a hard time believing this is what it will look like in the end. More than likely, they are doing engine testing in an existing rx-8 body.
- DaviDaviDaviD, on 12/10/2007, -1/+6Hotlinking disabled? Here is a alternative link:
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/DaviDeXtA/m ... - joelito, on 12/10/2007, -2/+7It' s a ***** sports car!
If you wanted fuel economy you should have gotten a Prius. - RX8SaxMan, on 12/10/2007, -0/+5Well consider the fact that these cars are designed and built in Japan with Japanese engineers who work for Mazda, not Ford. If Ford had anything to with Mazda (besides their 33% ownership) Mazda wouldn't be posting record profits. Luckily Ford is smart enough to leave them alone to do things their way.
- 13B1303, on 12/10/2007, -0/+4Oh god 16X engine please!!!!!
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=1 ... - rotarychainsaw, on 12/10/2007, -0/+3Plz Mazdaspeed 8 engine mule
- jasmus, on 12/10/2007, -0/+3You put a V8 in an RX7? I don't pretend to be any sort of authority on cars, but that sounds... well... dumb.
- darkNiGHTS, on 12/10/2007, -0/+3Yeah, I think the engine is the real news here.
- 13B1303, on 12/10/2007, -0/+3What the hell was wrong with the FD?
http://pix.nofrag.com/3/f/1/14a302de302a80f1166947 ...
Mazda needs to pull the tooling out of the barn and just start making the old FD3S with the new 16X engine. They would sell like hotcackes and development cost would be next to nothing. - bagelpirate, on 12/10/2007, -4/+7It looks too toned back compared to a current RX8
- AROZ, on 12/10/2007, -0/+3Oh, I thought they were going to give us sliding doors this time.
- RX8SaxMan, on 12/10/2007, -0/+3The FD was great looking, fast, and fun. However, it was VERY unreliable. People who whine about the RX-8s reliability have obviously never owned an FD because those cars broke down all the time. Also, the fuel economy was worse than the current Renesis. That is what was wrong with the FD.
- RubberBinder, on 12/10/2007, -0/+3Your ugly and very 80's looking.
- Eshestun, on 12/10/2007, -1/+3I heard it gives organisms of both the unicellular and multicellular variety
- RX8SaxMan, on 12/10/2007, -0/+2I'd be willing to bet money that Mazda will come out with a new RX-7 and keep the RX-8. They appeal to different market segments so there's no reason to say one is better than the other.
- Makaras, on 12/10/2007, -0/+2I really, really, want to like this car, but the way it looks is too much to overcome (and i am not a huge fan of rotary engines). Their use of the back bench and rear doors, make this car look too long and too cheesey. It is almost like Mazda is actively targeting the "whipped" husband who is going through a midlife crisis. "I mean sure honey, it is a sporty looking car, but it has plenty of room for the kids". I really wish mazda would offer a slightly shorter version that didn't have the retarded looking rear doors, and that retarded looking back bench with its whole 6 inches (being literal) of leg room.
- RX8SaxMan, on 12/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah, that is who Mazda is targeting, but I don't see why that is a bad thing. If nobody makes the sports car for the "whipped" man, that man may never have the joy of driving a sports car.
BTW, I own an RX-8 and love it. I'm a single college student and it fits my needs beautifully, because I love sports cars but I can't afford a second car for utility. This car does both, and quite well. - tuxidomasx, on 12/10/2007, -0/+2looks a little less aggressive i think... not sure how i feel about that.
- turrican, on 12/10/2007, -3/+5I have to say, can't stand the looks of the RX-8. And I'm a Mazda guy!
- MCMLXXXII, on 12/10/2007, -0/+2The RX8 seems to be very reliable to me, I have had it for about a year and a half and the only repair it needed was a replacement sun visor which I must admit is the crappiest design ever. I agree with the fuel economy though I get about 17 mpg.
- 13B1303, on 12/10/2007, -0/+2RX7 lovers hate you for your bastardization of that FD. The LS1 is a cop out for those who don't know how to build/tune a good rotary motor.
- ryanisnotsuper, on 12/10/2007, -1/+3Turbo ones will.
- ithejosh, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2Stop digging these stories? This almost makes as much sense as having a question mark at the end of each of these two sentences?
- domokunt, on 12/10/2007, -1/+3Rotary engines will never have a lot of torque.
- Merrick178, on 12/10/2007, -0/+2Lmao! They sure 'caught' them red handed! I really hate when people use words like that in situations like this. You catch your 13 year old son masturbating or your dog ***** on the floor. Hell you even catch AIDS, but you don't catch a car in testing. And I think this whole "spy photographs" thing is getting a little out of hand. If half the "spy photographs" on here were real I think some pissed off companies would be bringing somebodies pissed off ass to court.
- JSolo, on 12/10/2007, -1/+2You can see the lack of torque and low gas mileage inherent in the rotary and it's just a still picture.
- inactive, on 12/10/2007, -0/+1Frankly either would be an improvement. Can't someone make a car that's truly different? If not, I don't see the reason to get excited about a car not even out, that might not be what people expect.
- Factionrider, on 12/10/2007, -1/+2Gives organisms?
- RX8SaxMan, on 12/10/2007, -0/+1Its a mule, obviously. Did you complain about Honda's NSX mule because it looks like an uglified S2000?
- Dezelon, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Aside from, um, all their engines being recalled? Can you spell Apex Seals?
- jazzguitar18, on 12/10/2007, -1/+2my rx8's been very reliable.
- mrferg, on 12/10/2007, -8/+9I really never cared for the RX8, it's a terrible looking design. I figure if people wanted 4 doors they can buy a sedan, small suicide doors are just dumb and ruin the looks.
- statix, on 12/10/2007, -1/+2give organisms while driving? yeah that would be pretty cool...but im pretty sure you were try to say something else ;)
- Eshestun, on 12/10/2007, -0/+1My 1990 ford aerostar used to rock one of those.
Man, that thing was a tank. - RX8SaxMan, on 12/10/2007, -0/+1Thats what I think too. I can't imagine them keeping it THAT much like the current RX8 when it will be 6 years old in 2010.
- 13B1303, on 12/10/2007, -0/+1solution: 16X engine. The whole twin sequential turbos and waaay to hot of an engine compartment doomed the reliability. The RX8 has had its fair share of issues which honestly is to be expected with a first run of a new model especially with the brand new motor. As far as I know mazda went out of their way to back up the product and have continued with rotary development. They can NOT risk another unreliable RX? model like the FD. I still have my fingers crossed. I can't argue with the fuel economy factor, the tach is the gauge to watch if you want to keep smiling, not the gas gauge.
- inactive, on 12/10/2007, -0/+1Car of the future...cool... oh wait... I still see a gas tank. Damn.
- GIFF3, on 12/10/2007, -0/+1new crx
- 13B1303, on 12/10/2007, -0/+1OOOOoooo00 Initial-D Now that's real racing... if you need so much torque drop a Cumins in there.
I'll tell you whats real dumb, and we'll let your digg count confirm this, It's dumb to spam digg as if it were autotrader. - zeejay, on 12/10/2007, -1/+2If they get rid of the suicide door and improve the mileage, I might be interested, although that styling is lame compared with that upcoming Hyundai. The rest of Mazda's cars have relatively cool styling, compared to others in their class. Why they can't make a decent sporty flagship car is baffling...
- VeryBoredNow, on 12/10/2007, -1/+2That car is a lemon.
