The History of the Color Wheel
colourlovers.com — "The first color wheel has been attributed to Sir Isaac Newton, who in 1706 arranged red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet into a natural progression on a rotating disk. As the disk spins, the colors blur together so rapidly that the human eye sees white." An in-depth history of color wheels and how we came to use them.

- SpeshulEd, on 05/09/2008, -1/+7I realize white light contains all other colors in the light spectrum, but wouldn't spinning a color wheel rapidly just look brown?
- skimmas, on 05/09/2008, -1/+10no... if you mix paint with magenta yellow and cyan you'll get brown... but when you're looking at a colour wheel you're mixing the light emited from each paint not the paint itself. google for adictive and subtractive colour for more info. :)

- fuzzynyanko, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1I got confused for a while since displays do red, green, and blue while paints were red, yellow, and blue (sometimes known as Cyan, magenta, yellow, and black). At least later I found out that there's a difference between absorbed light and light from a light source like a CRT or a liquid crystal.
