- scuba7183, on 10/18/2009, -5/+450It shouldn't be legalized just because 'everyone does it'
It should be legalized because it is not dangerous - zantos420, on 10/18/2009, -5/+164It should be legalized because:
1) it has never killed anyone
2) it can't be overdosed on
3) it is safer than alcohol
4) it is safer than cigarettes
5) it is not addictive (subjective since anything can be considered addictive, such as sexoholics, etc..)
6) it has medicinal purposes (if it didn't, then why are there marinol pills)
7) it is a natural growing plant, hence the nickname "weed"
8) it would cut crime rates (look at how many people are in jail for it currently)
9) it's only illegal for bureaucratic purposes (see: http://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabis/cannabis_cul ...
10) hemp is more durable than cotton and was actually used in the first pair of denim jeans and also good enough for soldiers uniforms in WWII (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemp#History%29
and if you want to argue with me then let's argue about how marijuana was able to keep my father alive through chemotherapy while fighting cancer because it gave him the "munchies" to eat when the treatment killed his appetite. - chevymonster, on 10/18/2009, -27/+183[flick]
[sound of inhaling with sound of bubbles]
[long pause]
[sound of exhaling]
Woah! First!
[sound of coughing] - harvinator24, on 10/18/2009, -8/+163It should be legalized because we have this thing called the constitution. That gives us the right to personal property and privacy.
- idc5, on 10/18/2009, -3/+83logic isn't a factor in the world of politics
- inactive, on 10/18/2009, -4/+70ACTUAL LEGALIZE IT POST!
- cos7a, on 10/18/2009, -3/+65I wonder what sound ignorance makes...
- riverstyx, on 10/18/2009, -4/+52Obviously nobody can lock up 166 million people, so something has to be wrong with the law if enough people are ignoring it because they don't see it a crime. Kinda like speeding..It's illegal and you might get a fine if you can't talk your way out of it, but everybody does it anyway.
I don't think total legalization will realistically happen anytime soon (Its more of a business to keep people in jail then to keep them out. Cops have bills to pay, and probation officers have to pay off their loans).
This is all due to the fearmongering of the drug war(s) and those insulting commercials we had to deal with. Nothing new though, Harry Anslinger did it over 80 years ago and they did it again during the 80's (Havent researched it enough to mention any other dates), blaming marijuana for why society is being flushed right down the toilet and using voodoo pharmacology to try to scare the public. Anyone remember that commercial of the stoned teenagers driving into a kid on a bike?
They played every card you can imagine and then some, but they're running out and obviously people aren't stupid, they're just defying an injust and outdated law; plain and simple.
I don't even personally use marijuana, even though I more then qualify for a state medical card due to my mental disability. Don't see a need for it, but at the same time I believe people have the right to make up their own mind, choose what's best for themselves, and if someone makes the wrong decisions to just learn from them. No big deal, thats life. Locking people up does nothing to prevent crime and petty crimes like smoking pot with your friends once a weekend hardly qualifies as criminal if you read the newspaper as often as I do. - Wakkyweed, on 10/18/2009, -7/+54Here's the sound that ignorance makes:
"[sskkkkkssss]
[sound of you opening unemployment check cause you are a lazy stoner and don't have a job]
Woah! Where are my Dorito's.
[thunk]
[sound of you passing out in your disgusting bug ridden filthy apartment]"
I hope that clears things up. - heliumflash, on 10/18/2009, -4/+49Weed is pretty much Canada's nation pastime.
- CptCancer, on 10/18/2009, -3/+44Everyone is digging JediCow down because that argument is ***** *****. I shouldn't have to forfeit my rights because someone like your friend has no personal responsibility. ***** that. People have their driving impaired by legal medications yet continue to drive. How do you test to see if they are functional?

A: no http://www.webmd.com/smoking-cessation/news/200309 ... - Divector, on 10/18/2009, -1/+41Cawpin, show some evidence that Marijuana contains cancer causing carcinogens. Let me save you the time and tell you that it doesn't. There has not been a single case where marijuana has been proven to cause cancer. To bring up your point on tar, it may be so that gram for gram, marijuana may have a slightly higher tar level, however, marijuana is not smoked in the same quantities as tobacco. Not even close.
Also, you don't have to smoke marijuana to get it's effects. There are vaporizer that only vaporizes the THC, leaving the plant matter behind. It can be eaten as well.
I hope you're not a troll making me waste my time. - guyinjapan, on 10/18/2009, -1/+40for those who may not be getting the sarcasm: that IS the actual reason that weed was made illegal in the first place
- LordByr0n, on 10/18/2009, -2/+36[sound of me opening 2 pay stubs from my two jobs]
Sweet I'm semi rich... for now. Time to celibrate.

[bubbling water with the *klink klink* of the ice in the water hitting off the glass]

Puff in peace Bitch - daEvan, on 10/18/2009, -1/+34Mr. tehknotte, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
- stoned420247, on 10/18/2009, -7/+39Legalize, regulate and tax it.
- Kaegro, on 10/18/2009, -7/+38Nothing wrong with smoking weed. Nothing at all. Weed is like happy in combustible plant form.
- 247365, on 10/18/2009, -6/+34How long will it take? It certainly seems inevitable.
- yocouchdigga, on 10/18/2009, -4/+31"bwahahahah", "their".
- inactive, on 10/18/2009, -23/+49We need to keep it illegal, it keeps all those blacks and mexicans out of america.
- Rammy912, on 10/18/2009, -2/+27CLEARLY it's been working...
- jsauter, on 10/18/2009, -1/+24Jebus, I hope they never interview you on the subject, for either side.
It only feels illegal because you make it feel illegal. A physical reaction is neither legal or illegal. - yocouchdigga, on 10/18/2009, -7/+30Pick it, pack it, fire it up...
- rolf, on 10/18/2009, -2/+19Seems fine to me.

"The Vancouver Sun is a daily newspaper first published in the Canadian province of British Columbia on February 12, 1912. The paper is currently published by the Pacific Newspaper Group, a division of CanWest MediaWorks Publications Inc., which is affiliated with CanWest Global Communications company.[1] It is published six days a week, Monday to Saturday.
Although its staff of reporters has shrunken considerably in recent years, the Sun still has the largest newsroom in Vancouver. The Sun is a broadsheet newspaper and is not part of the Sun Media chain that operates tabloid papers in Toronto, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton." - espotoaster, on 10/18/2009, -0/+17smoke weed every day and i am a 3rd year biomedical engineering student.

- inactive, on 10/18/2009, -3/+15end prohibition of weed now!!!
- rocknog, on 10/18/2009, -0/+12Actually, I think #7 is strengthened by the fact that there very dangerous natural plants that aren't restricted in any way. Hell, there are more harmful artificial substances that are completely legal. As I'm fond of saying, Drano will ***** kill you horrifically if you drink it, but it's completely legal. And yes, people actually do drink it as a way of committing suicide.
- heliumflash, on 10/18/2009, -3/+14If you've ever been on Digg, clearly the guy was being sarcastic
- jsauter, on 10/18/2009, -1/+12So it can be legalized, socially acceptable and available at the corner store (not outside the corner store).
- silencerider151, on 10/18/2009, -0/+11Just Mexicans. We kinda (just kinda) forced the black people here.
- RilDaddy, on 10/18/2009, -4/+14ya you're probably right. 160 million doesn't seem right. way more people smoke weed worldwide than that.

Your point is VOID! - KarmaPoIice, on 10/18/2009, -2/+11The amount of pro legalization buzz right now in North America is pretty incredible. If Canada were to legalize, the US would be the only country in North America with anti-marijuana laws. This should be interesting.
- sharkydog, on 10/18/2009, -0/+9Just got an ounce in the mail!

- Dundaman, on 10/18/2009, -0/+9The RCMP made a huge bust recently and most of the comments on Cbc's website were ripping on them saying what a huge waste of money the whole charade was.
- flossdaily, on 10/18/2009, -0/+9I don't smoke pot. I want it legalized. Most pot smokers I know spend the majority of their time living normal lives.
You know what IS kind of sad? People who never think about the world enough to develop a personal code of ethics, so they rely on the government to tell them what is right and wrong, even when mountains of evidence point the other direction. - jsffive, on 10/18/2009, -0/+8Really?
160 million people?
Or is that 160 million people who will ADMIT TO IT?
Picture this for a moment. A guy in a suit (with a notepad no less), walks up to you, and says, you know, kinda off hand, "Hey. do you smoke marijuana?" (In other words, a COMPLETE STRANGER has just asked you if you do something that's illegal in over fifty countries...)
There are two types of people who answer this question:
The people who say, "Hissel YEAH!"...
... and the smart ones.
The question I want answered is: of the people who were conducting this survey, how many of THEM were stoned enough to think that they were going to get an honest answer from all the people surveyed?
You know, because people like to admit that they're doing something illegal ALL THE TIME...
... and if any method OTHER than an actual head count was used, then they are GUESSING at best. -
