- Flarup, on 04/16/2008, -0/+9He looks kinda like the Grinch in the second picture.
This was unusually cool. - mindsnare, on 04/16/2008, -2/+10I saw him the other day stylin in apple bottom jeans, and boots with the fur.
ew - variant, on 04/16/2008, -1/+9I believe the absence of black hooded garments makes this article inaccurate.
- nirav72, on 04/16/2008, -1/+7Papaltine has style! Vader better get a new outfit.
- EzraT1, on 04/16/2008, -0/+5I can't help but think there is or was some meaning to this. All popes wearing similar attire for 100s of years. From what I have gathered on religion, no practice is just done arbitrarily.
- Gloogle, on 04/16/2008, -0/+5I didn't know he had style. wow...
- ConceptJunkie, on 04/16/2008, -0/+5There is significance to everything the Pope (or any priest) wears... each article of clothing has a meaning. Most of what the picture showed shows the normal variety of liturgical colors, etc, but it also points out the particular choices His Holiness makes. I think the wrap around scarfy-dealie (not the official Latin name) looks really cool. The blue vestments are really cool too. Like the article said, blue is not a standard liturgical color, but it sometimes shows up on holy days relating to Mary. I would bet that photo was taken on Dec 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception or the Feast of the Assumption (August 15, IIRC) or the day we celebrate Mary's birth (Sep. 8, nine months after the Feast of the Immaculate Conception... ta da!). I'm really looking forward to hearing his speech to the U.N. and to the U.S.. Regardless of what you think about the Church or the Pope, this guy has some seriously good stuff to say. I thought his Regensburg speech was brilliant, but you have to look beyond the controversy and actually read the thing... something I doubt the violent "protestors" would (or even could) do.
- inactive, on 04/16/2008, -0/+4That is funny
- Y0tsuya, on 04/16/2008, -0/+4Nah, he just talks tough.
- troye, on 04/16/2008, -0/+4It's the ***** pope bitch; he does whatever he wants.
- shadowflame, on 04/16/2008, -1/+5Viva La Papa!
- inactive, on 04/16/2008, -3/+7Don't mock the Goddamn Pope!
- brownspank, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3Benny got low low low low low low low low...
- slstsang, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3Pope Benedict is hip! He wears Prada shoes and bless Ferraris in Saint Peter’s Square at the Vatican.
I miss Pope John Paul, he had a kind face like budha - troye, on 04/16/2008, -2/+5Dude, he looks like Senator Palpatine in the second picture.
- umpres, on 04/16/2008, -1/+3No! You wouldn't!, would you?
- eigenweasel, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2Those spinning rims on the Popemobile are my favorite touch.
- ConceptJunkie, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2All religious things aside, I have to agree. Regardless of what you think about the guy (and I support him), he's a scary-looking dude. Pope John-Paul was lucky to have such a friendly-looking face. It's funny how these things matter in our age of information. A few centuries ago people probably didn't even know what the current Pope looked like, now we see images of him (and every other famous person) constantly.
- aflaks, on 04/16/2008, -2/+3ever seen the vatican? all popes are the ultimate masters of bling
- CJinNC, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1I have known many more good clergy than bad, but geez, the dresses kill me. Let married men and women in already and it fixes a lot of things.
- Stevethegreat, on 04/16/2008, -1/+2"evokes a style dating to the 11th century, when the Eastern Orthodox Church split from the Roman Catholic Church."
I find it funny (and tragic) how historically inaccurate this is. Coming from Time magazine it only gotta show you how special interests leaves no one uninfluenced. While I'm sure it was not TIME's real intention to obscure historical events I'm also sure they would never go on and call Pope to be an apostate and an usurper of Constantinople's (at that time) patriarchate which was as such for more than 7 centuries before that and actually made Christianity (through the Synods) into the frigid monster that we know of today (remember, Pope had never taken part at the Synods as he was named -merely- as Bishop of Rome, he never had special powers until he got them by himself (and made religious interventionism even worse than it was back in Constantinople).
BTW Orthodoxy means (the) "canonical belief" while Catholicism means (the belief) "that is being accepted by everyone", even their names can show what happened back then (-we have the people and the money so we form our own church with our own leader (catholics), -we are the only real tenet, you're heretics (orthodoxy), -we still have the people and the money so we don't give a ***** what you think (catholics))..... - groberts1980, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Does the entire page need to reload with each picture?
- jhnshft, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1The green outfit kind of reminds me of Marvel Comics Vision character.
- mojonandha, on 04/16/2008, -2/+3enough already.
- buddamus, on 04/16/2008, -1/+2The pic with the Christmas hat looks scary and evil
- SRSco, on 04/16/2008, -1/+2The Pope has also caused a lot of buzz when he busted out some Gucci shades and Prada shoes.
- camino262, on 04/16/2008, -2/+2I wonder if MTV will pimp his popemobile?
- Dobiewonkenobi, on 04/16/2008, -1/+1Popeback mountain
- fathergj, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0That was actually quite interesting, and fairly accurate, to secular media standards. Most impressive.

- o0joshua0o, on 04/16/2008, -4/+3Agreed. But you're kind of off topic.
- PATSCRU, on 04/16/2008, -3/+1He doesn't...the fact that the head of the catholic church makes his first trip to America, and the American press write THIS article is so telling of the state of journalism in this country that i feel the force of a million facepalms.
- adama1, on 04/16/2008, -3/+1ohh.. i thought pope benedict was a type of food : [
- hoodedrobin, on 04/16/2008, -3/+1YES OMG YES... I was thinking the same thing

- skooma, on 04/16/2008, -5/+1I was expecting the lawful evil motivational poster.
- kotatsu, on 04/16/2008, -7/+3There is no 'god'.
- induren, on 04/16/2008, -6/+1Also in his style is suppressing information about child molesting priests. That was very much in fashion for him, and still appears to be the case today! Oh to Paris with you, dear Pope!
- PJBovoNox, on 04/16/2008, -9/+2And we give a ***** about this why?
- Air420, on 04/16/2008, -14/+5Nazi's and child molesters always seem to dress well.
- djcreamy, on 04/16/2008, -16/+2Catholics are a superstitious bunch. If I met the pope, I would call him a silly assclown and help him pick out some nice slacks and a collared shirt. And that hat! Jesus titty-***** christ, that thing looks stupid!
