- nullcodes, on 05/29/2009, -2/+28I bet a photo taken of a street in New York City today will look pretty much the same as one taken 100 years from now.
The cars may look different maybe be electric that's about it and be electric (not flying). The people will look about the same, their clothes won't be radically different. Homes will look pretty much the same. - PixelMagic, on 05/29/2009, -2/+21That's right R2, we're going to Cloud City...
- philipze, on 05/28/2009, -1/+18I'm a trekker fan. This is nice, the only way to view the future is to use our imaginations power to give people a taste. Beautiful images.
- ToastyXXX, on 05/29/2009, -0/+10Has your alphabet been drinking again?...
- Dea7hleprachaun, on 05/28/2009, -2/+12The echo speaks to me.
o.O - psion01, on 05/29/2009, -2/+10[chuckles]
And from experience, that's the way things go. Compare the cities of today with the ones of 1909, where things were built by stack brick upon brick. Or 1809, where most buildings were made of wood. Cities still sprawl, but the tendency has been to go up. And as materials improve and math, engineering, and design tools get more complex, it becomes still easier to stretch upward.
A lot of these pictures show an artist's interpretation of this tendency; stretching things past their limits, disconnecting structure from the ground, but it's a forgivable shortcut because it still captures the essence of architecture's delta-v. - dizzyguitar, on 05/29/2009, -0/+7I liked those, but this one has been my favourite for a while...

I don't have any art in my apartment, but if I do want it, this is where I'll start. - Anubis2051, on 05/29/2009, -1/+7Stargate Atlantis?
- Janizzary, on 05/29/2009, -1/+7I really I hope I can live long enough to see such utopias in real life. God, I hope Ray Kurzweil's right.
- macattak420, on 05/29/2009, -0/+6Its good but its missing the pic where the robots take over humanity and then will smith saves the day...
- inactive, on 05/29/2009, -0/+5Why do I feel the need to put on an 'Asia' album, and wear white polyester?
- pat25fire, on 05/29/2009, -1/+5I'm thinking Myst
- Velnich, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3same. and some final fantasy
- 4rp4n3t, on 05/29/2009, -1/+4Yes you are - about half your brain.
- inactive, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3apparently, everything in the future looks like a penis...
- inflation, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3These scenes assume an upward continuation of the current technology and innovation pace as well as political and economical stability. Honestly, I think we will reach the beginning of the end before such high-tech dreams materialize. Einstein was once quoted saying "I don't know how World War 3 will be fought, but World War 4 will be fought with sticks and stones."
- joshcxa, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3please show me some of your work then
- 4rp4n3t, on 05/29/2009, -1/+4I'll take that bet. Consider...
Does a picture of NYC from 100 years ago look 'pretty much the same' as one taken now? Is the rate of change of technology still increasing? I'm not saying there will be flying cars, but I am saying that NYC 100 years hence is likely to be more different to the present than the present is to 100 years ago. - jeexbit, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3hot damn...

very cool... - Velnich, on 05/29/2009, -3/+5Am I missing something? How are these "pictures" 3d more than others?
- insertAliasHere, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2They are "3d" because they have been rendered in a 3d program. In the program you define objects, textures, and lighting in three dimensions, then you place a "camera" in the scene and you can render it from that view. So, obviously the end result is a flat image, but most of these pics could be very simply reproduced from another angle by moving the camera in scene. It's a flat picture of a three-dimensional scene.
Also you're a stick in the mud. - jiesa, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2Congratulations, abduzeedo.com, you have successfully hijacked digg.com. Or maybe you have abducted us. With design. (OMG!)
- e73v3n, on 05/29/2009, -1/+3Well, they are made from a program wich have 3 axis, the x,y and the z.
- SpectreFire, on 05/29/2009, -2/+4Atlantis for the win.
- commentposted, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2...Unless a 1000 year storm destroys it.
- asnaturalasgas, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2Not many trees in the future eh?
They all look oddly similar ... which probably means this isn't what the future will look like at all. - MaximusD, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2If Ray Kurzweil is right, we only have about a 50 percent chance of survival. A lot of crazy ***** could go very wrong with that sort of technology explosion. That said, the singularity is near, and cities like these will be on Mars :) Maybe even in my lifetime (which could be quite long if Ray is right...)
- skipvt, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2Finally, some atomic powered flying cars.
- MaximusD, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2New cities will get built, and they will be the ones all futuristic looking. Rome will have the coliseum in a 100 years, NY will still have its iconic skyscrapers. But Seattle or Portland or even some city that's a no-name now will be the next architectural gem.
- ayeroxor, on 05/29/2009, -1/+2That's what you do with your honor of first post? Buried and blocked.
- Jawbone54, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1Hopefully the most accurate: http://thmc.deviantart.com/art/Metropolis-2106-349 ...
- junkfoodjoe, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1What's sad is this could be the present.

- pr0nald, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1i have seen the future.... and it is good =)
- osteor10, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1did you forget to grab the 3-d glasses out of the cereal box?
- firebhaal, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1can't wait for video games to have these graphics real time
- captdonno, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1you want something a little more tactile(and a little more realistic) just visit Shanghai. gorgeous pictures by the way, if only we had as many visionary architects as we do artists.
- jwolcott, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1Well, some of them actually look like Dubai!
- p13t3rm, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1you sir, are a moron.
- firebook23, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1posted comment on wrong article... and I am Canadian you jack ass!
- AmericanGunner, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1I see that I think, act 3 of diablo 2 meets new york city...
- inactive, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1No, Dubai looks like THEM! :-)
- specialcases, on 05/29/2009, -1/+2The first one looks pretty Studio Ghibli-esque
- AmazingA, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1They abducted cgsociety.com and deviantart too. If you want to see some amazing 3D work, skip this crap abduzeebo site and head over to cgtalk.com where most 3D art is originally submitted.
- samimy, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1if you wait for 20 more years, then come Japan, you will see some kind of what you expect.
- bobthegreat1224, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1The ladders in the fifth image bug the crap out of me. They're horribly designed for no apparent reason, and their absurdity adds nothing to the image. Why run two ladders parallel and force a transition, and why end significantly below the upper terminus?
*used to work on communication and water towers* - Nollie2, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1redcat1113 - "It's not yet I've got and I think this comes from the future when I look good small."
Wishful thinking my friend. -
