- miles01110, on 10/12/2007, -5/+407It actually took me a second to see the "The" on the sign...hrm.
- adidos, on 10/12/2007, -6/+161Yea, that took me like a minute to see "The". For those of you who can't figure it out, tilt your head to the left!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+127Are you sure it isn't FTW Mac Store?
- mechnoch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+101The funny thing is, I WORK there, and I never noticed.
- an7agonist, on 10/12/2007, -8/+78WTF? I still don't see it :
Edit: Got it ^^ Turned my head the wrong way! Thanks adidos - tyme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+70The really funny part is what they named the image itself:
http://www.thecomputerstore.com/img/wtf.jpg
Seems like they're quite aware of how it reads... :D - LowRentDiggs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+71If it wasn't intentional it was at least unintentionally brilliant.
- jlunski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+52Had it not been pointed out that it is supposed to say "the" on the side I probably never would have figured it out on my own, I would have just stared at it thinking WTF does 'WTF MAC STORE' mean? TGIF!!!
- mechnoch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+49@jman888
Formerly known as the Computer Store (they were actually selling Apple computers in the Pacific Northwest BEFORE the Macintosh was released), the Mac Store is a locally owned and operated Apple reseller. I'm not sure when the Seattle store actually opened, but they were in their current location near the University of Washington long before Apple opened a store down the street in University Village.
(And in the interest of full disclosure, I admit, I work there.)
http://macstore.com - stjahl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+37Haha, the actual file name of the image on their site is wtf.jpg. Someone in charge has noticed :-P
- uownedge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28Same here...even having read the text under the link on digg first...I knew what to expect, but I was looking at it ad thinking "Huh? All I see is WTF".
- Beshitehboss, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31They should add a little "on side" note:
"Rotate head counter-clockwise 90 degrees and focus, (blink and you will see Jesus)"
:-D - tutivlahos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20http://www.segura-inc.com/segura2/photos/seen+noted/images/megaflicks.jpg
- McNamron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20@mechnoch
I tried to get financing on a strawberry iMac from your store on 45th street in 1998. Apple turned me down. :-(
WTF Mac Store FTW - bjnord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19And then there's the classic "Megaflicks" (Google Image Search for "Megaflicks"). Yes folks, kerning is important. :-)
- ijustfloat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Ha! Here's the store. They even have the image on their site!
http://www.thecomputerstore.com/aboutus.php - ChillHomie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18have you been to the ROFL Dell Store
- aussieNickuss, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21WTF is what I said when I saw a Mac store with a bright blue neon sign.
- nogami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15People who create neon signs use a blackout paint that can be used to create visual "breaks" in continuous tube runs. Makes it easier when shaping complex figures or words. Apparently it was not used here (on purpose?).
- nsummy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15The funny thing is, a non tech person probably wouldn't even notice
- HydraulicToast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13i could have sworn there was no H. I just couldnt see it!
- MasterLJ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15WTFBBQMACSTORE
- demodawid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12If it was done on purpose, my congratulations to the designer. Very clever way to catch people's attentions! this is on the same level as the FedEx logo.
- CaptainNoPants, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20me too, hilarious though haha
- Hardcase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9That's because they want you to study! Stoopid skoolz!
- ScottAG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Genius.
- Nethid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Mirror? School filters block almost everything.
- rglover, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I actually saw "The" first but then after a few seconds I saw "WTF" and had a really awkward burst of laughter. Good times.
- phenom2k7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Same here. I was like WTF.
- blahtastic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7New favorite store sign ever.
(Previous favorite was the 5th 3rd Bank chain. I always wondered what happened to the other 4 :p) - ijustfloat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Or someone in charged designed it that way on purpose...
- HunterTV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Rotate head counter-clockwise 90 degrees and focus, (blink and you will see Jesus)"
You dumb bastard. It's not a schooner... it's a sailboat. - w3rtx2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+64000+ diggs? That deserves a WTF?!
- RatTrap, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Awesome :D
- paulpavlish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5omg I live by there its less than one block
- onehitwonder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4nothing a little electrical tape can't fix.
- MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6and yet here you are commenting..hmmm. Next time maybe they'll put up that photo of you and Steve Balmer going to the prom together.
- brittack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3haha i actually work at the portland mac store.. i am so jealous of the seattle store
- jman8888, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10The Mac Store?
When did they appear - nathanwalker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@HunterTV
A schooner is a sailboat, stupid-head. - theminkus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I work the store in portland and it was the seattle location had it, but i believe that the took it down a while ago. (not due to the WTF). But nice to see our sign on digg.
- herrshuster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4wrong article
- Dracoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yea thats really tough, the T and the H look combined.
Took me a good while to figure it out. - FishPoisonCon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3here's the store: http://www.seattlemacstore.com/ (sign pictured in the "about us" section)
at first, because of the font, i thought this was for MAC cosmetics..the ugliness of the sign threw me off as well - but this is just reseller - Nick519, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, running the type that way IS an example of bad typography. But it doesn't mean people don't do it anyway.
- Piggycow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It took me quite a while to actually find the "The"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Interesting how the neon bender could have just as easily connected the bottom of the "T" to the "H" and it wouldn't have ended up as "WTF"...hmmm.
- froman98, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I remember when the internet was really new to people and people started chatting. I remember throwing down a :-) and having people say "what is that?"...
uhh. tilt your head 90 degrees counter clockwise. duh.
same thing with this pic - synergyo1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I live a block away from the Mac Store. The sign brings a smile to my face every time I pass by it :)
- cartoonboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Classic "what not to do" in typographic design. Should be in graphic design school textbooks for the next 100 years.
