- zoomie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20And for the US users who prefer T-Mobile, as well as the rest of the GSM users worldwide
- dag68, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20For dummies who know how to use SSH?
I think Engadget once again jumped the gun. They ASSuMEd the next thing from the Dev group would be the GUI version. As soon as there was a new release they "broke" the news without even figuring out what the release was. Instead of breaking news, it is broken news. - sweintraub, on 10/10/2007, -5/+20***** stupid Engadget. How about some instructions, a read me or a link to a webpage?
- YourMom1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8It is not stuck on AT&T anymore. I unlocked mine using iBrickr and Putty and it is now fully functioning on T-mobile except for Visual Voicemail.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9I don't get what's new here. I unlocked the other day with a GUI app (okay, it wasn't the prettiest but i still just loaded it and ran it) which worked fine.
- lukeyd2006, on 10/10/2007, -9/+13digg this! Its a saviour for all us UK users :)
- Tenlow, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6shush. I'm getting close to buying one. I want more iPhone news.
- signal15, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I just bought one yesterday and am happily running on TMO now. Bitter that you are stuck in a contract with ATT? There was plenty of info out there on how to sign up without a contract if you just had to have one when it came out.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No, that does not follow. If the law says you are ALLOWED to unlock your phone, that doesn't mean companies can't try to make it difficult or impossible. Unfortunately.
- YourMom1, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5http://iphone.unlock.no/
Took 20 minutes (I already had iBrickr though.) - americanuck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2i hate how not a goddamned single link in any engadget article ever links to an actually helpful website. All the links are circular to engadget. stupid.
- norbiu, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6No, it won't ***** blend, and iPhones don't unlock you in Soviet Russia either. Make up some new jokes already sheesh!
- springo, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6Let's see what Apple says to this (I mean, firmware v1.1.1)...
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Well, if the firmware is like the Touch, then Apple seems to have broken all the hacks.
http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php/IPod_Touch - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Not to mention that you want to travel overseas and not pay AT&T's rip-off reseller rates for foreign service.
- YourMom1, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I used http://iphone.unlock.no/ a few days ago, worked like a charm and only took 20 minutes.
And it didn't cost me a thing except for the cost of an iPhone, which is $100 cheaper then the T-mobile MDA and way cooler. - aldenhg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Will it run Linux?
- c0ldfusi0n, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Imagine a beowulf cluster of these?
- mzaouar, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5i have woken the kids up, phoned the neighbors, but now how do i unlock ? :S
- psilanthropist, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2http://freeiphoneunlock.com/unlock/ - it has the GUI unlocker available. still requires the phone to be jailbroken via iNdpendance or iBrickr and then the file to be transferred to the iphone's /apps dir. then run it from your phone and it should work.
- Chakat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Will they function in hot grits, naked and petrified?
- energyblue, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Shouldn't really be looking in the tech section of digg then.
- c0ldfusi0n, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1im in ur iphonez, unlockin ur firmwarez?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Start by learning ***** English, dumb-ass.
- fishbert, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1And for the US users who prefer not to receive $2000+ phone bills after traveling abroad.
- kuujjuaqguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Cant phone the neighbors until i unlock the iphone first...
- colosis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6740
this should help a bit, read all the posts in that thread by sam - dillweed33, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2"...the graphical version (we think it has a GUI, it's unclear at the moment) of the iPhone unlocking software is now out" What the hell? Buried for inaccuracy. How can they say 'graphical' and not know if it has a GUI?
- naonao, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Excellent, this should work for me seeing how I have no ***** idea about the iPhone as of now..
- sethisastud, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0But for the US T-Mobile users it's a savior.
- psilanthropist, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1its been out since yesterday. here's a direct link to the download site - http://freeiphoneunlock.com/unlock/
- jayman16, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1What GUI did you use? Windows or OSX?
- ktan91, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0iPhone OSX lmao.. u just copy it on the applications folder. If installer had it, you could just press install and run it... but they don't.. so u gotta iBrickr , iFuntastic, or whatever and copy it on.
- Hermmunster, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Keep in mind that th Library of Congress issued an exemption which allows individuals to unlock their phones. Apple putting in a fix would be a violation of the DMCA. Apple cannot take away what the law grants. If Apple tries you can issue cease and decist letters to Apple.
- misskari, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1I can has a Digg topic that isn't iSomething-related? Kthxbye.
- SirZRX, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2for dummys?.....riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!
- yoavoy, on 10/10/2007, -7/+4Isn't the iPhone being launched in the UK next week? You know.. with possible 3G networking and all?
- sukimashita, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1"Oh noes, why relez for free?" /iPhoneFreeUnlockSimGeeks
- csipod, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0I can has unlock? This scene is getting better all the time. http://tinyurl.com/ys38lt
- Pfkninenines, on 10/10/2007, -6/+0This is one of many hacks...By not putting a new Sim card in, you are not switching networks....So what's the point of unlocking an iPhone that is stuck on AT&T.
- clackerd, on 10/10/2007, -13/+4someone make a hardware hack so it doesn't cost $400.
- sadsadrobot, on 10/10/2007, -22/+8You're dummies for even buying the iPhone to begin with.
- osxdude999, on 10/10/2007, -15/+0Wow. I can't belive they would do this.
- MODAT, on 10/10/2007, -24/+5please..for the love of god..no more iphone news. PLEASEEEE!!!!!!
