- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -25/+2Um, ok. So you can download videos on the interweb.
Never thought I'll see the day when we could do that. No Sir!
Ya got to be kidding me.... - joesoko, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3great find! to bad the inner link doesent work.
- CasetheAce, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18very interesting... clicking the link takes you to a "its showtime... the itms is being updated..."
- tobias-digital, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28it says "iTS" not "iTMS"
- awhiteflame, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4iTMS/iTS...chances are they'll just replace Music for Media.
- Stecchino, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Also, I'm pretty sure those are just links to movie TRAILERS, not the actualy movies. That's why games are in there too, b/c Apple hosts game trailers as well.
- omaryak, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1No - look at the link. It links to something called "movie" in the iTunes Store. It does not go to the QuickTime site where trailers are normally hosted.
- bennomatic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@omaryak -
If you look a little more carefully, the link goes to "Movie+Trailers", not just "movie".
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/inboundRedirect?omni-ch=Store+Front&omni-pg=Movie+Trailers&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.apple.com%2Fmoviesxml%2Fh%2Findex.xml
Not that I'm doubting the eventual outcome, but it doesn't look like this was a pre-release slip-up.
- NeoRicen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Good find, can't argue with that, looks like it's not only Disney and Pixar too.
- thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1it appears that fox and dreamworks are listed (dreamworks == disney, but not fox)
- myxyplik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Um, actually, Dreamworks == Paramont == Viacom.
- tobsterius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Dreamworks is owned by Paramount, which is owned by Viacom. Dreamworks Animation has been spun off as an independent studio.
- Frankie4Fingers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Didn't Viacom own BlockBuster at one point too? Maybe they are doing this to hurt their former spin-off?
- chrisrad, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Interesting, the US/English version is podcasts in that location.
Plus - on this German version it says "Weitere Musikvideos..." underneath - gklitt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10"It's Showtime
The iTunes Store is being updated"
Definetely seems very authentic. Maybe they messed up their time zone conversions over there in Germany :)- andrebrown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If you go to itunes and click on music store it gives you a black screen with those words as well.
- awhiteflame, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Edit:
Oops.. my original comment said that it worked for french too, but now that I look at it it's just movies already available.
http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/7372/frenchitunespj1.jpg - jackcall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1not just Germany, I just fired iTunes up, and the Danish store says the same thing "It's Showtime The iTunes Store is being updated"
Not music store, just store...

- lmbranco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Weitere Musickvideos" means "More Music Videos" so i guess they actually got all wrong.
But really believe in the change of name for the iTunes Music Store to support these videos section.- b5bar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That is what I read too.
I can imagine that there will be an actual video announcement today, however this section of the paged (linked by the original poster) appears to just be the German link to the Music Videos section of ITMS.
- b5bar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That is what I read too.
- bittered, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"Weitere Musickvideos" means "More Music Videos"... Yeah it's obviously a mistake but it's a revealing mistake.
- gklitt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I believe that the links are supposed to go to trailers (the URL has "Movie+Trailers" in it, but the content of the linked page is the important part
- lmbranco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And the spanish ones are also on the way to crazyness..
http://www.apple.com/es/quicktime/mac.html
But they had the good sense to write "More Videos" ;-) - bittered, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Just in case Apple decide to take it down, here's a screenshot...
http://www.davejeffery.com/screens/iTunesStore.png - neiltc13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I would prefer to see UK TV Shows on sale today in the UK rather than movies.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yep, that'd be a good start. It annoys me when I see BBC shows on sale (e.g. via Unbox) when the service isn't available in the UK, when we paid for the damn content to be made in the first place.
- fraggle35, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The BBC can't sell there content in the U.K., they could offer free downloads.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Of course they can... Many of the best selling DVD's are BBC-made. It's done via BBC Commerical, the profit-making arm of the BBC. The profits are fed back into the BBC itself.
- iFelix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The BBC (through its own subsidiary) sells it's content all the time in the UK...
http://www.bbcshop.com/ for example
True they don't sell digital downloads, but there is nothing stopping them (except perhaps third party rights issues).

- vogelzang, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Quicktime 7 has been around since April 2005.
- xanik266, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The vid listings are only trailers. Dugg anyways, since iTunes store is being 'updated.' :)
- dinkola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, but there is 'trailers' in the grey box above it titled film trailers. Then there is another box labelled 'iTunes videos'. If they are trailers, why are they seperate.
- WonderSwan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0I don't know why!! lol
- 4815162342, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2where can we see the details of the event live? someone always posts a link...
- neiltc13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The event won't be shown live online although a video stream is expected a few hours after it finishes.
- Antialias, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4engadget will have a live text feed. I'm sure other sites will as well.

- dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Also careful to note that the message reads that the iTunes Store is being updated. It's never been called anything but iTunes Music Store until today.

screen shot - atmicrat, on 10/12/2007, -20/+4Its not gonna stop me downloading from torrents thats for sure. Apple sells ***** quality mp3s at .99 cents, the video is gonna be crap too. Im pretty sure you will have to use the crap itunes media player, and will only werk on ipod videos.
- theballdredge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3dugg down, but only because apple doesnt sell mp3s at all. i wish the bitrate was a bit higher, but they are aacs, not mp3s
- Frankie4Fingers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2True, industry people have been saying that people are waiting for a movie download system to come out, but there have been systems and they all haven't done too well. Maybe forcing the people with Video iPods to use their service is one way to make the site succeed.
No Apple solution is really good. Buying a whole new computer to watch shows is lame, and using an iPod to do it when the quality on a video iPod is terrible is also not really an good option.
I have a large HD tv, I don't want to ruin my movie watching experience by watching some lame low quality, compressed video on it for $1 less possibly then just renting the movie at Blockbuster. - jackcall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1iTunes lets you burn the AAC files you buy as audio CDs, perhaps they'll let you make DVDs of the movies... that would be sweet
- Aslan72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I hope the compression is a little bit better than the current videos out there; I don't know if I would want or could stand watching one of those on a larger TV.
I'd also hope that the 'rentals' that have been rumored would be 1.99...
--pete - tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Guys, this is rubbish.
iTunes has had movie trailers for months. Also, it's fairly likely that Disney is the only major studio on board for now, so none of those films in the list will be full movies in the movie store.
Hover over one of the links and look at the URL in the status bar. It even says 'movie trailers'.- Annon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Agreed, I wish people would think before they blindly digg.
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well, when it happens, we can only be sure that Disney and Pixar will have movies up (both are partially owned by Jobs) but it wouldn't have been that hard for Apple to negotiate at least 1 contract with another studio and it would definitely boost my interest in it if they had maybe.... 20th century fox movies???
- magicRob, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Did anyone notice that the iTMS links for Transporter 2 & Red Eye are for Movie Trailers?
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/inboundRedirect?omni-ch=Store+Front&omni-pg=Movie+Trailers&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.apple.com%2Fmoviesxml%2Fh%2Findex.xml
See the Movie+Trailers bit? :)
Nothing confirmed. Still speculation. Time to hit that Bury button :)- tokyomonster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I noticed the same thing..
- Antialias, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think at least "something" is confirmed because if you go to the iTunes store right now, it just displays a "It's showtime, the Itunes store is being updated" Seems fairly obvious, but I guess they could throw us a curve.
- zalbag, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I noticed this too and you beat me too the punch. No digg and marked as inaccurate.
- Ubermensch423, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2why would there be red eye and transporter 2 trailers on the front page now? those movies came out so long ago that theyre even old news in europe.
- futurekill, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2lol...WoW...omfg
- mrSimon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0The "Its showtime" message is'nt just for the video links. This also shows up if you select a music track from http://www.apple.com/uk/itunes/ or a podcast from somewhere else.
- moisie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's music videos, they just happen to come from films, the uk store has the same thing but on this rotation they're songs.
- superchunky, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0f**k, I just got this 5Gen iPod Video which I ordered about 2 weeks ago....
I hope they don't announce the release of a new iPod Video THIS SOON
... just MAC and iTUNES..........dammit- gonephishin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4For future reference, you should check the Macrumor's Buying Guide. It lists the days since the last update of every Mac product and compares it to the average cycle of previous updates. Great tool for knowing when to buy (although there's never a way to be 100% certain.) Guess hindsight's always 20/20. Still got your receipt to return it?
http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/ - martoon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Always assume that when you buy an electronic device, that it will be obsolete within three months. Same thing happened to me when I bought my dell PDA. Shortly afterwards, they announced a new device to replace the old line. Two years later, I still use the same device and it still works for me. If you are one of the types that always needs the latest and greatest, the only thing you can do is sock away a wad of cash so you can continuously buy new devices. Otherwise, be happy with what you got.
- rafleming, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There's no such thing as a 5th Gen iPod Video. You have a 5th Gen iPod, which happens to play some video files. You have an iPod, not a Video iPod.
Also, the iPod you have is nearly a year old.... so I'd hardly say that the potential release of any new iPod would be "THIS SOON".
- gonephishin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4For future reference, you should check the Macrumor's Buying Guide. It lists the days since the last update of every Mac product and compares it to the average cycle of previous updates. - jccalhoun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Definitely just trailers. "World of Warcraft Burning Crusade?" what else could it be?
It also seems highly highly unlikely that the movie store, if it materializes, will be in countries other than the US at first.- XTheEliminator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Perhaps Uwe Boll has taken an interest in machinima?
- digger_twit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Nice!
- 9tailfox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Why do I have the feeling that Apple is not going to deliver what we are expecting?
- sajohnson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Because all of the recent apple events have been overly hyped by apple fanatics? Don't get me wrong. i love apple, and am really hoping for a new ipod, but it seems to happen a lot lately.
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Try all the time!
The problem isn't Apple. The problem are the fankids who spend their free time making up products that they think Apple is making. They write up detailed stories about these devices and make 3d/photoshop mockups. At some point the dumber fankids start to think the products are real and are ready for release. So every time that Apple has one of these shows, they flood message boards with rumors that this is when the i(insert name here) is going to be released. Apple in reality isn't making any of these things so the fankids get let down each time.
I try to warn them, but you can tell them anything.
- Marlon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3So it begins again...engadget also reports the 'showtime' message.
http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/12/apple-itunes-music-store-is-down-for-now/
Time to start saving $$ again!- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yes! Because the cult will need to pass the collection plate around in order to keep "Stevie" in his plush mansion.
- jccalhoun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I assume you are a linux user then? After all, it isn't as if Billy Gates, the world's richest man, is exactly poor...
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yes! Because the cult will need to pass the collection plate around in order to keep "Stevie" in his plush mansion.
- gueamu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i wish itunes would open up their stores in more countries
- cwhatley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0These are just trailers!
- vandy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1links to movie trailers...cmon people, read the url
- ShyGuy91284, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Buried. It may have some evidence, but World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade is _not_ a movie. Unless they plan on selling WoW:BC in movie form, the listing of other movies with it means nothing.
- cbiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actung Baby!!
- cristol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Try going to the Music Store in iTunes!!!!
- gweedo767, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is still there, if you click on one you get this page:
http://phobos.apple.com/showtime/showtime.html
On that page it just says:
It's Showtime
iTunes Music Store is Updating - flag564, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3And the kids pull out the innacurate card!
- dignon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah, pretty sick of idiots marking anything that they don't like as "inaccurate". Everything that reports anything bad about Bush (which is everything about Bush) or anything good about Apple is always marked as inaccurate -- its the online equivalent of a 2 year old covering its ears and yelling at the top of its lungs when it doesn't want to hear something.
- angelp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This should be marked inaccurate. The URL clearly states movie trailers.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This *IS* inaccurate. That part of the page has been there all the time, and it shows off movie trailers that have been available in iTunes for months.
The Movie Store seems pretty much a foregone conclusion now, but this is not evidence, proof or confirmation of it. - Ubermensch423, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@dignon
very true, especially when something is listed as an opinion piece or speculation. just because you disagree with the contents of an article or essay doesnt mean its inaccurate. people realize when something is an individual's opinion or a rumor. by the standard some people use to mark things as inaccurate on digg, every piece of philosophy and even cutting edge mathematics or science would be inaccurate because it is not a simple, indisputable, and well-established fact. - myborgdrone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Like String Theory.
- MrTea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm still waiting for the lossless music.
- Ubermensch423, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1my comment doesnt necessarily apply to this article, as the title is misleading, but in general, the inaccurate tag is applied too often
- tablatronix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2People are stupid, Confirmed!
- webguy2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1any evidence of apple acquiring a ton more bandwidth in order to accomodate a video download site? Also, in regards to a possible ipod nano update (which I would be in favor of), I'd like to see some huge leap, like 16 or 32 GB... I'd buy one of the 32 GB without blinking, it'd be cool if it could play videos, even on a smaller screen...
