- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -15/+83lol, if WMP ripped iTunes this would of had 2000 diggs and god knows how many comments by now.
- vandy, on 10/12/2007, -10/+65Actually the new view in itunes looks exactly like what apple uses to print off a list of your library. Go ahead; try it. Print off a list of your library, or a playlist and the view will look strikingly similar. This has been around since iTunes 4.5 - which came out April of 2004. It was a logical view of album art combined with track listing, and they've had it for a while.
- markcrules, on 10/12/2007, -10/+54I do agree that they look similar to each other in certain views, you have to remember that there is only so many ways music (and the information with it) can be displayed on the screen. Besides, copying a good idea from another competing product is hardly anything new is it!
- theonlyvlad, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31"so many ways music can be presented"
Yet when Vista's calendar came out, EVERYONE bashed it for looking like the Mac OS calendar. And you telling me there's more ways to make a calendar than to organize music??

- Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -16/+37I give it a hour before the "inaccurate" tag people show up in force. They rabidly defend the Apple name.
- jfranche, on 10/12/2007, -7/+25I used coverflow today... nice.... now I will never use it again (well except to show my girlfriend when she comes over, and then never again).
Sorry, the best part about iTunes7 is Job's presentation. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -17/+31Why don't PC users 'rabidly defend' PCs?
Because they don't have to. - Qwfwq, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17How long till this gets reported as possibly innacurate by the Mac lobby?
Counting ... - Dangeresque, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9DuggMirror: http://www.duggmirror.com/apple/iTunes_7_blatantly_rips_off_Windows_Media_Player_11/
- MrBabyMan, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14Let's see, this is an anti-Apple post, sooooo.....countdown to "[Reported by Diggers as Possibly Inaccurate]".... In 3...2....1.....
- mcwiggin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12This is blatan use of the news question mark. Make a ridiculous statement but add an question mark after it and its ok. Jon stewart explains:

attention all linux users, install free bsd.
attention all freebsd users, write your own os.
now who's the l33tist? biznatch!
(commence eye rolling)
(awww, thespace edited his post so I guess you can ignore mine now). - samdu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Nope. Best thing about iTunes 7 is gapless playback. The other stuff, while nice, is gravy.
- SonnyW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"I give it a hour before the "inaccurate" tag people show up in force. They rabidly defend the Apple name. "
Took 38 minutes... - 2000, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Hey! ***** you, buddy!
- wistar, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12You're in denial.
- mww2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6No.
- gabeN, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Just like their gonna rip off media center, I give it 6-9 months...
- Tanglefuzz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Seems the Apple design team hasn't only stolen the Media Center UI....
- levi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Instead of complaining about what they are copying form each other why not point out what each is missing.
iTunes: Folder monitor, support for non mov h.264 video.
WPM: Podcast support, support for h.264 video.
both: torrent support, a working auto tag system.
I'm sure I missed a few. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12I noticed that the album view looked exactly like what's in WMP 11. I thought it was hilarious seeing as how Microsoft is usually the one to rip ideas off of apple.
But, you have been able to print off your list of music like that for a long while, so apple still has the original idea. Haha, I guess that's the way it works. - Wogna, on 10/12/2007, -8/+13Oh. My. God. You mean they copied one of the views? That's unbelievable!! I can't imagine Apple *not* using that view. Big. Freaking. Deal. They still have a view WMP doesn't have, and the sidebar is still arranged much better, and the view that they did copy, is still arranged better, and is easier to follow with the eyes. But like I said, big deal.
I'm going to need more than one view for iTunes to be considered a "rip-off" of WMP 11, so I marked this as lame, not inaccurate. - fusioned, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Cause you know they both worked together on the same exact design, then Apple ate all the Oreos and Microsoft got mad, had a temper tantrum and walked off the the design. So Apple went and made iTunes 7 to spit Microsoft.
Yeah. - whamdanglers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Oh dear Jesus... can we please, PLEASE stop the iTunes 7 diggs?
- control98408, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wow, foobar's been doing this for years now.
- haleym, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7@wistar:
How is he in denial, exactly? As others have noted, this view has been around since iTunes 4.5, it just happens to be the default now in 7.
Plus, even if this were a legitimate example of Apple copying a Microsoft idea, it would be one small drop in the bucket compared the extensive, well-documented list of examples where Microsoft has copied Apple (remember 'Windows 95 = Mac 84'?).
It's pretty clear which company is the innovator and which is the follower, anyone who believes otherwise are the ones truly in denial. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -15/+19Yep, anything critical of Apple gets the inaccurate smackdown.
- jasondefaoite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Judging by the outcrys in the apple forums ... iTunes 7 should still be in beta
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Has nothing to do with Apple people defending their brand of choice. So Apple puts a couple new views in iTunes and all of a sudden they copied WMP? I think if someone is going to come up with a decent argument, they're going to have to come up with more stuff and write a better blog entry.
- Hortnon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I only dugg this because of all the other anti-MS 'ZOMG M$ COPIED APPLE QQ'.
How the application works and is used should be the key in deciding which one's better...not who came up with it first. - MioTheGreat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The Vista articles all with good reason. They were either all crap complaining about bugs in several-month-old-builds, or people whining about how their hardware manufacturers are slow to release drivers, or by the Inquirer.
But we seem to have strayed from the topic at hand.... - MrKite, on 10/12/2007, -11/+14If this article's title was the other way around, no one in this thread would be defending it. Let the Steve Jobs fanbois unite!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You pay for freeware? Poor boy!
- Qwfwq, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6And for the best, coverflow is just visual fluff, not really useful and gets tiresome rather quickly.
- Qwfwq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow, a well balanced opinion ... what are you doing here?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4There's 1 similarity: the Album view. The rest is simply slight differences in design.
Get back to me when Microsoft buys Coverflow & makes an awesome "thumb-through" gallery.
What's that? They've been bought already? By who!? - jarinudom, on 03/31/2008, -0/+3Microsoft has never copied anything from Apple.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I read the title of this and laughed (after having just seen the Daily Show clip about asking anything if it's a question).
- ThirdPrize, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10WMP 11 is still in beta isn't it? itunes 7 has just been released hasn't it? Discuss.
- invader, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4wanna know how i know you're gay? you use wmp to listen to coldplay..
- organicsalsa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"They coiped because the album art is on the left?
That's a pretty weak accusation."
Agreed, in English we read left to right so naturally you would place the pictures on that side so you get a visual representation first and an indication of everything on the right. Had either one of these companies been Japanese they probably would have placed the album covers on the right.
In any case to say that the placement of an album cover is a blatant rip off of a piece of software is like saying that every cell phone with a camera is blatant rip off of the first cell phone with a camera. Why doesn't everyone just open up whatever media player they use, sit back and listen to some Enya or whatever soothes you and chill out. It's only a media player, it plays your music, you listen and in the end nothing changes. Apple doesn't win over users, MS doesn't win over users the OS world doesn't change drastically, no hardware is improved, no big deal. - Sirbighands, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7For a non-bias opinion (from a person who has not used either player), I see very little similarities. Nothing that could imply a ripoff.
I could always be wrong.... - Qwfwq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2From my experience (and check previous stories on Digg if you don't believe me) iTunes 7 for Windows shouldn't be out of alpha, let alone beta ... it's crap - WMP11 behaves much more satisfactorily.
- MrViklund, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Microsoft fan-boys buried my post. That can only mean one thing.
- LemonHerb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3WMP looks much better then iTunes there, the UI is much prettier.
- pHr3ak3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yea I could see how those could seem similar...except for the fact that the formatting is different. Oh god...album art!!...go stab yourself.
- thewaz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5/me waits for the foobar2000 app that does this view. i like it much, i dont care who made it as long as someone rips its off again for foo.
- weareglass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's not about locating an album you're specifically trying to find, it's about rediscovering some music that'd been gathering dust. I'm sure lots of people won't use it, but people are different. There can exist a world where some people use different paradigms and the oceans do not seethe over and boil away all of the Earth's cities. At least I think so.
- whisperedlie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i always did feel that WMP had better UI for browsing, organizing and finding music. Blatant rip off? I dunno, and I don't care. I'm just happy Apple changed it.
