Yeah, but all of us on macs would just use Software Update.
Duh. - timdorr, on 10/12/2007, -7/+33Let's hope this fixes my iPod issues with my home PC. Had to bring my iPod into work just to get the updated firmware installed. It also requires I kill off the iPod service any time I want to sync up music.
Also, this should be a direct download link: http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iTunes7/Win/061-2794.20061031.iTZW2/iTunesSetup.exe - chileman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27"So iTunes 7 was so buggy that it required *two* 0.0.1 releases within two weeks of release?" -Escamillo
Correct me if I'm wrong, iTunes 7 was released on 9-12-06. So it's almost been 2 months since it was released. A 0.0.1 per month isn't bad, it shows they are addressing user issues. - weizilla, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23they finally fixed mouse wheel scrolling when itunes is on the 2nd monitor!
- Backlash, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25You don't have enough time to download a new .exe, but you have enough time to wine about it on digg?
- SPThom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20If you're one of the folks who've been plagued by iTunes 7 problems, it does. ;)
- tyeracj41, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17umm...the "phone driver" has been included with iTunes since 5.0 or something like that. It's for those iTunes phones...remember?
- Terc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Here's to the QTFairUse6 guys over at hymn-project.org
Can't wait for the update to support de-drming again - yathosho, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16itunes needs some clever update system.. i'm sick of installing the whole thing and disable the same settings everytime (quicktime in the systray!)
- jollyllama, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16a) that's been there forever
b) there are already a few phones on the market that support iTunes that don't start with an "i" and end with a "phone". The drivers are support for those devices.
c) I want the iPhone as much as anyone - tomi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Well then, perhaps you should learn to use your "real computer" and reply properly, smartass.
- mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14That's been there since the dinosaurs.
- Zero2aHero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12It has one... starting with iTunes 7 the pc version includes a software updating program similar to the one on the Mac. Look in your start menu folder for iTunes. I think it's called "Apple software update"...
- tomi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11[noah93] "BTW, if it matters, I'm on a Mac Pro"
Oh, you bastard. - RipperMortis, on 10/12/2007, -9/+18And the other direct download link:
https://swdlp.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/SoftwareDownloadApp.woa/1081/wo/GQtj3vUKefFBnqx5hx1lFw/2.5/iTunes.dmg - BrainInAJar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I wonder if this update fixes the problem where itunes refuses to acknowledge i have compliation CD's that i would like grouped together
- pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Here's hoping the column headers don't spontaneously fsck themselves anymore.
- TimDenike, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I wonder if this version also includes a "fix" for those pesky DRM strippers. The ones that allow me to play my ITMS purchases on hardware of my choice?
(Aka the elusive Fair Use Bug.) - MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Coverflow, Media Buttons on my keyboard, Synching With Other's Ipods (i don't have one), Full screen visualizations, Music Store, Word Wheeling search.
- roguepixel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Erm since version 7 screwed up alot and people have been waiting for a fix for this crap.
- chileman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6FairGame successfully converted a song purchased in 7.0.1 after the installation of 7.0.2. If I find a song I need I'll give it a try after buying one in 7.0.2.
Just an FYI - jgeorgeson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I had a bit of trouble with albums in general not being grouped right when 7 was released. Turns out my tags were messed up and I had just never noticed. It was typically a problem with some track not having the compilation tag set, or the tags for total tracks on the album (track x of Y) or discs for the album (disc m of N). Correcting my tags fixed the grouping problems.
Also, I find sorting on "Album by Artist" is the best way to ensure compilations are grouped properly. - tomi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Unless less you're on dial-up, you really have no point to complain.
Actually, if you're on dial-up, get a ***** better internet connection for heaven's sake. - wunch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Apple Software Update for Windows found an update for itself, but never any iTunes updates. :P
- kurtu5, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Yeah real computers are exactly analogous to finite Turing machines. Get one now and abandon your toy that is exactly analogous to a finite Turing machine!
- Sandlapper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm sticking with 6 for a bit longer.
- Sponky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Have you tried putting something in the "Album Artist" field to group the compilation?
- Al3x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5When I go Help>Check for updates, it says 7.0.1 is the most recent version....strange...am I alone?
- becknell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's information man. People come here to get it. If you see it on the front page and don't like it, just continue to scroll down.
- Stelex, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Backlash is right. We're not gonna digg you down, quite the contrary, we'll expose your laziness.
Now, THIS is going to be dugg down :-) - bbardlbradd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, I've got an iBook G4 (14" 1.4Ghz, 1Gb DDR333, 60gb 4200 ATA) and it run with out a hickup ever. I don't remember iTunes ever giving me a problem until 7.0, but that's all been taken care of.
I have transferred my 16gig iTunes Lib to an external drive (USB2.0, 40gb ATA 7200/8mb), so weather that increases/decreases performance idk, but If it does I don't notice.
So I assume if it works great on an older mac it's better for anything newer. Excluding PCs of course. - Mossa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Anyone know if Apple are every likely to give us the option of using the "folder.jpg" as album art WITHOUT forcing us to stick it into every song file. I know a even a decent jp wouldn't add more than 100-200kb to each song file but adding my 2790 jpgs to my 20000 song files is gonna take time & space I don't wanna give - yes more time & space that it took to write this & yes I have both a mac & a Windows Box.
- bbardlbradd, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11 Apple sucks b/c nothing will work right on a windows machine... interesting analysis, but I'm afraid your scale in logic could be somewhat offset by your own bias & insolence.
Have fun hating life and cursing others because of your unresearched loyalty to Microsoft's Windows XP.
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I wouldn't count on WMA support in iTunes. Ever.
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7That kinda locked themselves into releasing 7.0 when they did because of their big movie store launch which had been planned WAY in advance (and had to be). Unfortunately, their coders didn't get their ***** together for iTunes 7.0 in time. Sure, they should've given themselves more time and planned the event later... but once the event was planned, they were pretty much tied to releasing the update on that date ... rather than when it was fully ready. It's not an excuse ... just an explanation.
- chileman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I just now installed FairGame, changed the setting it told me to, and it ran fine on my 2GHZ MacBook. Maybe someone else has a suggestion.
- tomi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+513k+ songs, and iTunes isn't slow for me on Windows.
- chrisgeleven, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Nope and it never will. iPod's use a database to store all info about songs. You must use iTunes (or a program that works with iPod's) to move music onto it.
Quite frankly, I never understood why some people need to drag/drop music onto the iPod. Playlists and Smart Playlists are so much faster in this regard it is sick.
If you want to mimic drag/drop, create an iPod Playlist, set your iPod to only sync to that playlist, and drag/drop stuff from the library to that playlist. - mentat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What does that have to do with iTunes 7?
- DarkStalker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's for the Motorola ROKR E1.
- delusion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Also, it would be a bit helpful if they fricken posted a detailed "change log". Or if they had a public bug tracking/submission system.
I have yet to find a Windows machine that runs iTunes 7.xx with any sort of real speed. My music collection is about 12k files, which I don't think is all that unreasonable. The "Cover Flow" view absolutely sucks, and thrashes the hard drive like crazy (it's a RAID0 array, too.) Also, it's using purely 2D drawing techniques, so as soon as you make the cover view larger than default, it's animation slows to a crawl. Let's hope you don't have Yahoo Widgets or anything open either at the same time, because they'll both slow to a crawl.
Bah. - Obvioustroll, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I highly recommend that. iTunes 7 drove my Shuffle insane; and it has all sorts of small annoying problems with podcasts on both my PB and my Dell. I left 6 on my old PC and my kid's iMac; I ended up giving my shuffle to my 9 year old because it works fine with 6 and she can use it with the iMac.
Of course, when I complained about all this when 7.0.1 came out, people dugg me down. It's kind of amusing that now 7.0.2. is out and people are yelling "it's about time!" - TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Flies on my MacBook Pro.
- meamog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm on a Mac with Panther 10.3.9 and a 450 Mhz G4 - and I get almost the same performance as on my Athlon 2600. iTunes is simply a better Mac app.
- brotherfranciz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Same here... I think you've got to download it manually then.
- prcpaul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Coverflow works perfectly now. Because on my mac, it certain CD covers would take longer to preload, causing lots of question marks to show up when I would scroll through my covers. That's been fixed, so everything appears right off the bat.
Video's are still too bright in fullscreen mode. - 1807, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3MY MUSIC DOESN'T SLOW DOWN AND SKIP!!! this update was a godsend! it's about time iTunes got it figured out.
- Mossa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oh yeah & anyone know if we're gonna get folder monitoring with auto removal of files that no longer exist?
- superfuz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5click start > Apple software update. Let it do it's thing and you won't have to redownload. Kthnxbye
- chrisgeleven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3On Mac's iTunes absolutely flies. I don't remember the last time I had to wait for it. Scrolls very smoothly, no hiccups at all.
