iTunes 6.02: Now with VIDEO sharing

notd.blogs.com — With all the attention on the new ministore presentation, no one seems to have noticed that iTunes 6.02 enables video-sharing to your local network. Whether it's intended for an upcoming home media appliance or not I don't know, but it brings videos up to par with music.

  • Markdoggin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Streaming Definitely works from 6.0.2 --> 6.0.2; I attempted to Stream 6.0.2 --> 6.0.1 to no avail, apparently this is a new feature. It seems this is how apple is gonna 'get er done'

  • DannyEngesser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Seems to only work with video imported after you install 6.02... so, for a podcast for instance, unsubscribe one that does not work, delete the video file, and re-download it... I tried it, and it works... probably works the same for purchased video.

    Take note that i'm on a mac and it is completely updated.

    Actually, the size scales pretty well for a SD television. Looks equivalent to medium quality on a TiVo, if that helps.

    If you want to convert your AVI to play on your mac Itunes... use any of the following mac based apps. Do a seach on google for them... you can find them easily.
    iSquint
    Handbrake
    MoviesForMyIpod
    OpenShiiva

    Most of these are to get video ready for ipod format but that will be the size and format you ant for iTunes... give them a try.

  • infiniteparadox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It appears that only videos imported with 6.02 will be shared. I've re imported my videos and they all seem to stream nicely on a 100mb network.

    This perhaps can be tied-in with the fact you can now select TV Show as a Video Type, while in 6.01 you only had the option of Music Video or Movie. (without using Lostify or AtomicParsley)

    Is there an easy way to change the video flag from "movie" to "music video" or "tv show" without having to manually go through each video file's property? In other words, is there a way to batch change "movie" videos to "music video" like you can with album, artist, year, etc?

  • xjeffx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, and 6.02 also prevents you from uploading videos to your iPod that are high-res, even though they fall within the published specs of the iPod. I'm glad I have two computers because otherwise I'd have no way to upload my videos.

    Thanks for the tip... but I actually did NOT do the look up for them.. because their questions was so lame... I just gave them a push.. if they actually did a search for the apps I suggested they will find more than me just holding their hand to the source. I took a long pause when posting... and did what I did intentionally.
