I can understand the logic for the iphone (because they wanted to be the ones announcing it) and maybe the appleTV, but those seem to be exceptions to their rule of announcing the day they ship. So when this rumor says they may announce then ship later this year, that sounds stupid to me.

I have absolutely zero need for a very expensive phone with horrible battery life, 8gb storage, wifi and osx support. But an ipod with a larger screen (touch sensitive) and at least 30gb of storage would absolutely rule.

I'm sure Apple WILL eventually release an iPod like this (an iPhone without the phone part, basically), but now is absolutely not the time to do so. ThinkSecret has the worst track record with predictions. We all know that there will be a 6G iPod that will feature the touch-widescreen LED display, but the time is not right for an iPod release. I think a hard refresh for the iPod will occur closer to the winter holidays. Apple wants to focus on the iPhone now then they'll focus on the Mac hardware line in the Fall, then the iPod line in the winter. Of course predicting Apple's next move should be a game in Vegas...
