- cogit0, on 11/11/2007, -3/+68yeah, sorry about that. you kinda left it lying around. thanks for the videos of your girlfriend though.
- Backdrifts, on 10/10/2007, -1/+29Take it back to where you purchased it and get a replacement unit...
- alefox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24darn week 37 ipod, and it is defective :( off to the apple store!
- indiefan, on 10/10/2007, -5/+29So what happens to the people with the bad screens?
- clickmyface, on 10/10/2007, -5/+20what is with the naming? "week 38" ?? they have been out for a couple of weeks only, so this naming scheme confuses/interests me.
- jer084, on 10/10/2007, -6/+20Getting closer to considering it...especially that my 60gig iPod Video just got stolen last night...
- Buddhist, on 11/01/2007, -0/+11what the *****?
- zweben, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12That tends to happen when you jump on it.
- peter337, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I hesitated to purchase but read about the week 38 fix on Apple forums and decided to go to at Apple Stonestown, San Francisco. Before the purchase, I asked the cashier if the serial had 38 in it. Upon personal inspection of the good serial, I purchased the 16GB. The display units I tested were still W37 and it had terrible blacks. Going home to test my new unit, I could see no problems with the blacks. I tested with http://techmind.org/lcd/greyscale.html to make sure the last color, 00 was the darkest in the image. All other reports I have read, found that W38 units have good blacks as well.
- Squaros, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8How about you all try your hardest to hold on to your money for about... 2 more weeks. You can snag a week 40 model. It'll probably have dropped $100 or so too.
- Remmiz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Remember, check the serial number on the back of the box BEFORE opening it.
If it's not something like: "9C738xxxx" or it will also have the picture of Macy Gray on the front. - Backdrifts, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8If it's defective they don't have a choice.
- sketchylemming, on 11/01/2007, -0/+7Should be covered for the first year if its hardware based, so you should have no problem.
- inactive, on 11/01/2007, -1/+8Wow, that was very disturbing.
- vh1`, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7you're right with the number of weeks since the first of the year (so, week 38 would mean september 16th and onwards)
and I guess the reasoning behind this logic is because the week is actually included in the serial number, thus being the quickest way of finding out - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7If the bad ones are still being sold then it's NOT fixed!
- YoGramMamma, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Grab a calendar... no wait. Count. By 4's
Start at January. And count by four to the 9th month (September - this month)... then add two to that number you come up with to add two weeks to the time thats gone by since this month started . what does that number equal. I'm Getting 38.
get it? - Eraser85, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4because they weren't expecting such stupid ***** who can't even count weeks in a year..
- kjk437, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Does Apple take them back? Laser engraved already?
- Angostura, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4No. It indicates the 38th week of the year.
They haven't been manufacturing them since January and stockpiling them somewhere. - wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Why the fcuk is this being buried? He's exactly right. The Ipod touch problems have been all over the net. One apple-fan forum says "Anyone with a week 38 iPod have a bad one? So far all reports are week 38's are good!!! "
And the headline is "ipod touch screen problem fixed"?
What the fcuk is wrong with this place? - autoy, on 11/11/2007, -3/+7Oh, you mean "accidentally stolen"? My good old Mini just "accidentally died" as well.
- CraigJ, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7No, they haven't. I'd assume it refers to the number of weeks since Jan 1, which is a retarded way of naming it. How about "since September 10th" or something?
- ogremidget, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3He had a girlfriend until it got stolen.
- JJayguy23, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4"The serial has '9C738', the last two digits representing the week it was made, in this case week 38," said by iONic from Macrumors.
- WardC, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3http://a248.e.akamai.net/7/248/2041/1318/store.app ...
There is a pic of a "Macy Gray" box - from the Apple website. - BayAreaKing, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Still have to wait a while before you can find a week 38. I went to Best Buy today and they only had week 36's
- Thumpster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I picked up a 38er at a Best Buy in Austin today. Looks great.
- bushnoh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3 hell knows, i smell *****
- tigerpaper, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Apple sucks - I pre-ordered the touch on the day of release (which hasn't shipped yet) but they've been selling them all over the place in-store!
I need to stop being apple's bitch - I'm about to end this abusive relationship. - cupofjoe, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4it has been reported that some week 38s have macy gray on the front and some still have corrine bailey rae. The corrine bailey rae ones still seem to work fine as long as their 38s
- gowanis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3i had a bad one, returned it, and just got a new one ("week 38"). the new one is good!
- iRoy, on 11/02/2007, -11/+13They have been in production for 38 weeks. Not too confusing or interesting if you ask me...
- scoot87, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I got a defect...returned mine to Best Buy and am waiting for the next shipment to come in!
- EtiennePell, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Mine shipped today for Toronto. It was a 38. You should be good.
- xile, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I called them and bitched and the order status changed to "Processing" 20 minutes later. My iPod Touch arrived about 30 hours later, engraving and all.
- kjk437, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Mine shipped yesterday, but it was still a week 38. You'll be alright.
- megagram, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yup, all of Apple's products have a 'week' code in their serial numbers. XXXYY where XXX are the first three digits of the serial number and YY are the number of weeks since Jan. 01 representing when it was manufactured. Makes good sense to me!
- kjk437, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Mine is a week 38 with Carrine Bailey Rae on the front. Screen is fine.
- REBELinBLUE, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I really should have proof read that. >_<
"the 2 before that indicate the factory"
"in the year 2006 and in the 45th week, W8645."
From some google search, it seems the production number is the next 3 digits in base 34 format - ExtraLife, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Got one that still says week 37, but has Grey on the front and works perfectly. Had the old one and returned it so I know the diff, and so don't completely dispair if you got a wek 37...if they have the new box, you might be in fat city like me.
- u2wedge, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2thank God for savants.
- REBELinBLUE, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1How is that retarded? All their products use the same format, if they did it as "since september 10th" then every single product would have a different base date, which makes no sense. It then requires you to know when the product was released in order to calculate when it was produced. I think you'll find the previous digit indicates the year and the 2 before that indicate the. So my iMac was produced at factory W8 (granted that'll only mean something to apple) in the year 2006 and in the 45th week, W8445.
You can use http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.h ... to find out what about your serial number. Mine was production 27 in that week, although I've not sure how they work that out - Angostura, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yup.
- specialK16, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That was inspiring...
- specialK16, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2After some thinking, I think I'll be getting an iPhone (as long as the unlock survives time and updates and it is redoable in case it relocks).
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+1That's exactly right, you don't say "sorry" because then you accept liability. You've got a chance in hell of Steve Jobs ever referring to this non-existent screen issue. At least that's the way he will see it.
- aeiron, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Got my Macy Gray week 38 iPod today. Just arrived at Best Buy. Perfect screen. Tested with pics and video.
- xile, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Mine too (received yesterday, Apple pre-order). It's got the Macy Gray art, and I haven't had any problems.
- REBELinBLUE, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That wouldn't be the same thing at all, they aren't a different version of the product, it is just what week they were manufactured in
