- vikramkr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2blhack: Go to apple.com and see a picture for yourself.
- Stopher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think this shows the iPod is over priced and the Iomega Flash Drive is VERY overpriced. I still want a nano though.=)
- xedeon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2For all of those cheap people that just bitch about apple products being too pricey if you people just look around and spend like 15 minutes on eBay you'll find great deals I bought my 2nd gen ipod mini for $120 + $6 shipping factory shrink-wrapped and everything..... one more thing Apple Engineers and Product Designers are the best in the business if you don't agree with that then you have no clue what a great product is..
- ryan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2>I payed $179.99 for my 2nd Gen 4GB iPod mini. They are now charging $249.99 for a 4GB iPod nano. Ripoff.
Even the 2GB version is more expensive than my iPod mini!
Are you stupid? There's a color screen, it's much smaller, and memory is flash. There's a huge difference that justifies the price. - jamester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That Rosewill Jumbo Drive 4GB USB drive is by far the ugliest thing I've seen in a long, long time. My black iPod nano 4GB, though, is pretty darned spiffy looking, pretty darned spiffy SOUNDING, and makes me happy.
Newegg's next cheapest 4GB flash memory of *any* type is a Kingston 4GB CF card for $209. I paid $20 more than that, and I got 4GB flash memory with a color screen and click wheel that I can play my favorite music on. Not a bad trade-off.
For the record, I have one of those ultra-sweet PQI 1GB usb keys - those rule the school. And at $54 plus change, you really can't beat it. The only complaint I have about it is that I continually lose it.
:) - fourcorners, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Good for you jamester but that doesn't change how stupid the comparison made by the submitter was. Personally my next mp3 player purchase will be made when a feature rich and small 10GB mp3 player comes along (I don't care if it's flash or HD based). I do like MP3 players that are pleasing to the eye like anyone else but who cares what a flash pen drive looks like? dork! :D
- fourcorners, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@heatpack id doesn't say in the description but you can tell by the specs and it says it on the box.

The nano also has hardware to play the mp3s, a color screen, and a battery...
- Ryokurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Most Iomega things are overpriced anyways.
- vikramkr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I payed $179.99 for my 2nd Gen 4GB iPod mini. They are now charging $249.99 for a 4GB iPod nano. Ripoff.
Even the 2GB version is more expensive than my iPod mini! - daze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1last week, i just bought a Sandisk 2gb Cruzer USB2 flash drive for under $100 at ebuyer.com, after rebate. the rebate was $30. nano is beautiful, but its still much more expensive if you compare it to real world items. iomega is much too pricey.
- dstart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1vikramkr, the Nano uses solid state memory, iPod Mini does not.
- genome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well, not only that, but the 2Gb version is even cheaper than other 1gb players. (South-Africa). You think this will have other manufacturer's lower their prices too?
- sufferingant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its got a color screen, and is almost as small as a shuffle...down the road it may play videos too
- mezolithico, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah, but if you drop your ipod mini the harddrive could die. you dont have ot worry about that with flash memory.
- heatpackrat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1where do you see "flash", fourcorners?
iomega is overpriced, there are other 2gb flash drives for ~100.
i have this and i love it:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820214009 - redsrule2500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1iPod 20Gig is better still
- clharlem149, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yes, the nano is beautiful with it's color and whatnot. it's also supposed to be better because it's flash and so a storage device with no moving parts = much harder to screw up.
- 2tall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1$100 per 1gig, versus $10 per 1 gig with hard drive based mp3 players.
yeah i know its comparing apples and oranges (pun intended, couldn't resits), but its amazing how apple has been willing to change our standards for what is acceptable.
before the mini, most people couldn't rationalize the price/memory ratio of flash based players because they seemed so impractical and such a bad value compared to the hard drive based ones. - CaptSnuffy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i paid $70 for my 4th gen 20gb ipod when the 4gs had just come out
I got a special deal becuase my sister bought a powerbook for college and she already had a 20gb 3g ipod so she let me have the 4g one. - HankQuinlan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I got a 4 Gig Nano in black and I'm really happy with it so far. Don't regret the purchase one bit.
- thisdude415, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It may be a bad comparison, but you are getting a pair of headphones, the ability to play music, store pictures and view them on the go, etc.
Its a great reason to rationalize with parents, etc. - fourcorners, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"comparation" ..? feel free to make new words up as you go. ;) Hah, but you're right this is stupid. here is a 4GB flash drive for $109.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820228036
You can get a normal 4GB card retail for around $200 - cwoolf34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1iPods are not overpriced, you are ignorant. They are the trend setters and that means they must invest millions in R&D. Anyone who says it's overpriced or that argues the nano is ridiculously priced simply don't understand the industry and are just nagging because they can't afford it. If your going to bitch about nano then get a Mini on ebay. Just stop the ignorant arguments.
- kevin.gc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmmm, a good way to rationalize the purchase...
- mdweezer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When you're buying flash memory by the warehouse you usually get a tad bit of a discount. Go Apple go.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good point.
- monolith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1kevin.gc, good point, except its an iPod.... rationalize? Just buy it already. :)
- cwoolf34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dvdcr:
If you are referring to my post, I am a fan of apple, but I am not the fanboy who goes and buys everything apple without comparing. I am just pointing out a valid point. Dell doesn't innovate so they can offer low prices on products by not investing in R&D. They also buy in huge quantities so they can get discounts (everyone knows this). Nothing is wrong with Dell's way but if you are looking for a bargain look elsewhere besides apple. Apples slogan "Think Different" still applies and "thinking different" costs more money and therefore Apple
s more innovative products costs more money. Dell is just an example to help make my point. Apple wont get anywhere appealing only to elitists, but they also shouldn't turn into a HP or Dell. - SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2maybe if you compare it to the most expensive flash drive you can find.
"Apple Engineers and Product Designers are the best in the business if you don't agree with that then you have no clue what a great product is.."
would the best engineers in the business put out a flash based player that doesnt even have a screen? would they sell it for more than the cost of a better player made by one of their competitors? apple is trendy. thats why people buy it. not because of quality. consumers dont care about quality or substance. they care about whats cool. apple makes products with white headphones that fit in so well with all the other white headphones you see. its the same as abercrombie and fitch shirts. they may be damn high quality shirts, but thats not why people buy them. they buy it for the name in an attempt to fit in. and this "anyone who disagrees has no clue" crap adds nothing to your argument. if anything it takes away from it. insulting people is not a way to convince them of anything. - dtrinh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1while it is rather polished / impossibly small, Im still going with the iPod 20gb. They both have perfect size and... do I really need an mp3 player that small?
- jnmn98, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I paid $89.99 for a 4GB Ipod Mini from Mixitforme.com...I use it mostly for Podcasts and 10 CDs, I still have about 2 GB left for data storage.
- gregcotten, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmmm.... $299 for 20GB 4G iPod with color screen and VIDEO OUT ...or... $250 for 4GB (with all so special "solid-state" memory) iPod Nano with a color screen and NO VIDEO OUT? Oh, and did I mention that the 4G is bigger, giving you a better grip on the product?
-Greg - outerspaceapple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@blhack
Dude, go to an apple retail store and try one out, then walk over to an iPod mini and try that out. They really are impossibly small, and much "snappier" gui. - yaos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very lame. All this tells me is that both Iomega and Apple are overpricing their ***** and Apple fanboys are stupid enough that they would be willing to bendover and pay thousands of dollars for a ipod if Iomega decided to overcharge just alittle more then Apple for their memory drives. HAHA I can see it now. OMG they are charging over a thousand dollars for a HDTV, that $999 video ipod is freaking cheap.
- IraqManiac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah, that's it, I'm getting one
- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oops, I meant to say 4GB...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Apple has not been cheeper at eany thing they have sold ever! They want to screw you and for some reason you let them!
- DRoulette, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For storage it's only price-competitive for the 4GB version:
http://www.disketteroulette.com/articles/2005/09/07/shuffle-mini-ipod-nano - michaelg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Still expensive.
- dvdcr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the typical ***** fanboy idiot:
If u say anything negative about the ipod, they only and "ultimate" answer will be "u r poor and u cant afford it, that's y u complain" WTF?? does it has to do with anything? - NosferaDrew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I guess not. :/
try this:
http://homepage.mac.com/drew1/.Pictures/3Pods01Web.jpg - NosferaDrew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1...and also display your contacts (phone #'s, email and addresses), photos and calendar. It has games, a clock and a stopwatch too.
Love my iPods!

(can you hyperlink here?) - j.carcinogen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does it play video podcasts?
- skellener, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you think the iPod nano is expensive, don't buy one. It's still a really slick product. A few caveats about the iPod nano that you might not know though....
• There is no firewire support with the iPod nano. You can still charge your nano through firewire, but you can only connect and sync it through USB 2.0. Not such a good thing if you own an older Mac without USB 2.0.
• There is no TV out support on the iPod nano. Although you can now store pictures on the nano, you can only view them on the nano's color screen. The only iPod with video out is the regular 20GB and 60 GB iPod with the color screen (formally known as the iPod photo).
• The headphone jack is located on the bottom on the iPod nano. Not a huge deal, but it means that none of the previous iPod peripherals will work with the nano. Not a big deal if you are new to the iPod. However, people who have invested in a previous iPod and peripherals might balk at spending more money. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can also get the iPod nano wallpapers from here:
http://computers.wallpaperstock.com/Apple/wallpapers_31s.html - dvdcr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1to cwoolf34:
I didn't refer to u, i did refer to the fanboys, and i DONT see any innovation in the iPod, it only plays MP3 and has menus and THATS IT! nothing else, or am i missing something? Oh yeah.. has a screen. - lpok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OMG! How did this article get 800+ digs! There should be a way to give a -1 dig.
- uclatommy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1An iPod nano will get you laid. End of discussion.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1wonder what's the point to digg a news about a link to newegg selling iomega...
