- skell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0can't wait to hold this one in my hand!
- kkessler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really don't understand why anyone would want to watch video on an iPod!?!
- anagami, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0damn you, you submit this link 2 minutes before I was writting this same link :P
- TeChGuRL19, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's like Christmas :)
- FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i WILL have one.
- kristin364, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is ridiculous. Who wants to watch video on a 2.5 inch screen? God I wish Apple would stop releasing a new iPod every two weeks. They become obsolete way too fast.
: - TeChGuRL19, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why not? Subway ride home or to work in the morning....something to watch...seems like a fantastic idea to me!
- FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2now, as we are freeing music, video will too be freed from the corporattions who are repressing our very culture. we are witnessing a revolution. it will be beautiful. it will be ours.
- kaka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0SWWEEEEEEETTT!!
- Jackolicious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How long do you all think before some sort of 3rd party software to get AVIs to play?
- celerityfm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My cousin puts aqua teen hunger force episodes on his iPod and watches them in iPod Linux with audio. Believe me, it kicks ass and is totally usable. This is going to rock!
- danio, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0that is one big waste of money
- ebenthurston, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Check it out 360 degree quicktime VR. Looks like it has the same face material as the Nano.
http://digg.com/apple/360_degree_views_of_new_Video_iPod - manvsmonster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I don't like the silver on the back. I wish they would've made them complete and seamless like the nano. I can't decide if I'll get one just because of their DRM, and I don't want to use iTunes, and I don't like the silver back. It just clashes.
- anagami, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0"I can't decide if I'll get one just because of their DRM, and I don't want to use iTunes, and I don't like the silver back. It just clashes."
You can rip your cds and use programs like ephod or Amarok to export music to the iPod. - TigerClaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmm, Who would watch videos on a 4:3 screen, Many of the new video players have widescreens now.
- Room101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can get an S-Video to play it on your TV, which is what I always thought they should do.
"Did you see last night's episode of Lost?"
"Nah, I missed it."
:: Pulls ipod and S-video cable out :: - Cander, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Ok so now this is on the front page. You would think this MIGHT stop the dupes..let us see.....
- Essefgy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really prefer the horizontal, widescreen design someone had photoshopped.
- tehsuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This sucks, no DivX / Xvid in iTunes, just tried importing stuff. Seems to only like Quicktime native formats (h.264 / .mov / mpeg-4). Booooooooo.
- jk_baller23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0great, now I have to buy another ipod, lol. I still want to see the video because it's always exciting when steve jobs makes an announcement. I am glad that they didn't update the resolution on the powerbooks also or I would have been broke.
- freekz_8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OK this is really getting me mad, i bought an ipod photo about two months ago and ever since i got it is been like, ohhhh now theres the nano.... and now its the friggin video ipod, i mean is just makes me mad that they couldn't just use firmware upgrade to do all the stuff like lyric display or video playback, they always have to make something to rip us off! and whats gunna be the big hype now that they have the video ipod out? its just one thing after another....
- qxz86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0w00000000000000t...
I think this calls for my third iPod buy. Mwahahahahaha... - hiredgun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Some people dont wear white headphones because they dont want to get mugged...now why would people want to take out their ipod and watch video on it?
- mpgeog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Whoop-dee-doo. The thing is gonna get scratched in an hour just like all the other ipods and watching that screen is going to be annoying.
- Brutis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Check the battery length
"Video playback time: Up to 2 hours when fully charged"
LAME!!!! - notninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i gonna wait a couple of weeks until best buy etc gets them then my ipod photo 4thgen 20g will supposivle have problems and they will have to give me a pod of exual value :)))))
- Macknal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, don't I feel like a dope for getting the 20GB iPod two weeks ago :(. For the same price you get 10 more GB and video support.
- aggrazel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Its like having a Tivo in my pants!
- manvsmonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A couple weeks ago, I was going to get the Cowon iAudio X5L. I'm glad I decided to not do anything about it. And here this is. It's got twice the space around the same price... but just like always, no FLAC, have to go through iTunes, DRM--blah, blah... I still want to get the iAudio now just because of the longer battery life and drag & drop and playing of xvid... but... I dunno... twice the space. I never wanted to have to use iTunes or whatever... need to think... and still don't like silver back... ehhh...
- sdball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who does divx ripping anymore now that h.264 is available? If you already ripped to divx, re-ripping to h.264 is a good time investment.
Or are you divx whiners talking about torrent downloads? ;-) - AJBcoolman8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome!
- anagami, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0Why not use iTunes?
...I prefer to use this program under emulation (under Linux) than for example xmms. - spade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For those complaining about h.264, does DIVX scale from cell phone to HiDef? Apple is not calling this a video iPod, just an iPod. Waiting for more content providers and then Apple will come out with a 16x9 video iPod. Sorry to say that DIVX will still not be supported.
- manvsmonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh wow, it only plays for 2 hours? That really does suck it even worse.
- willgonz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's not a wide screen. I rather watch videos on a PSP with an external Hard Drive.
- Drahknon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Okay, here's the thing. There are literally dozens of submissions regarding this story.
It's safe to say we all know there's a video iPod, now.
Please stop submitting this story over and bloody over.
We get it. - jpturner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Waste of money if you have a 60 gig photo already (like I do). 80-100 gig version will make me upgrade. Also what about video updates for nano and older color photos?...
- snowthrower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Personally, I'm not impressed. It looks ugly, infact, very ugly. Sorry, not as enthused as I was about the Nano. Atleast this will price drop the 20gb to a reasonable price.
- tarun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So Dvorak was right. Apple is looking at the sales figures and decided it was time to release a niche product to keep the ipod brand alive.
- Niao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm somewhat dissapointed myself.
I'd hoped the 'iPod Cinema/Video' would be landscape 4:3 viewing and portrait menu scrolling, meaning we'd get a bigger picture and we'd get a better look at the stuff we scroll through.
The new iPod kinda looks bloated and uncomfortable.
Where's my 80GB iPod, Apple? - kaka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@drahknon: this is the first REAL submission linked to Apple's site - the other's are dupes and iPod posters before the event and leaked images, so this one is a +digg
- dombi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is impressive. I am guessing that a bigger screen version of this is already in the works and will probably debut sometime next year. We will probably see movies appear in the store as well, which will be a big hit.
Can you imagine buying your movies online, downloading them to your iPod video, watching them on the airplane, or hooking it up to a TV. That would be great.
The iPod looks great as always. I love the video content. I even like the new iMac G5 with the remote control. Very nice Apple! - jaredly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well carp, there goes any chance of ever getting any work done now. It’s like taking my TV to work with me.
- dtrinh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GOD APPLE. STOP SCREWING WITH ME.
.. *sigh*
Apple finds a way to put a hole in a wallet every five weeks. Seriously. The iPod! the iPod nano! the thinner iMac! THE iPod video!
AGH. AFTER THIS. NO MORE APPLE PRODUCTS FOR ME.
T_T - rootme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol looks like the people who got the ipod nano should have waited. >.< sexy.
- xjeffx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I ordered mine within minutes of it going live on apple's site!
- marosnax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0as long as your able to hook it up to a TV I think it is useful, and the fact they r only charging 2 bucks a video. but unless the quality is better then bittorrent downloads of episodes I am not that impressed though we know who there trying to combat. Also if they had more channels like, Fox, and CBS, and HBO, or SHO but if you paid for TV and downloaded them via itunes you would be paying so much money a month.
- PumpkinEscobar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Some people dont wear white headphones because they dont want to get mugged..."
Some people don't wear the white earbuds because they suck. Etymotics all the way, Baby! - manvsmonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, I'm guessing the "primarily music" thing makes sense with the 2 hours of video spec. I'm taking it that they just marginally worked it out to play videos for a barely acceptable amount of time, keeping it "primarily music" still to suffice for the lack of innovation for it be an acceptable, working product that can be called a portable video player. And so I'm getting the feeling that yeah, they'll just end up releasing a better one in the future, and this is sort more like a waste of time, and a waste of money--for it's only a marketing thing. It's only to say it's there and get sloppy people to throw down the money. People who won't say, ya know... this is crappy away from the eye candy. I want to get it, but it's just not a well-rounded product now. That's my decision after a few minutes of pondering. I'm thinking I'll just keeping holding off from getting an mp3 player until the next generations again. Haha.
