- kent1146, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Because history has shown us many times (Sega Dreamcast, Amiga, IBM OS/2) that superior technology does not win the fight, but marketing and market share do.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+72G means 2nd generation, not 2 GB.
- longofest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7the two are not necessarily totally mutually exclusive. TS is saying that shipments to Apple's retail stores and to 3rd party retailers are being delayed. They make some conclusions that the shipments as a whole are going to be delayed which is wrong, but the core facts may not be.
In the end, if TS is right, it could just mean that Apple is getting a LOT of demand for the player (or production isn't ramping as well as it should, but I think demand is probably strong around holiday season :-)). Hence why we mention it in the article. - Dolomite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6relax, 2G refers to 2nd Generation, not 2GB.
- scelestus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Damn Mr. Daytime Emmy. Did you forget your meds today? Read the article...read the comments...do something other then flap your gums proving your ignorance.
- ThrobbingBrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I work at Sam's Club, and I don't think i could even count the number of Shuffles that we sold last Christmas and then had returned because it wasn't what the kids wanted. It was always parents thinking they did a good thing by buying their kids an Ipod.
I tried to convince them that when their kids said they wanted an Ipod, they meant a 4GB, 20GB, 30GB, etc...not these dinky 1GB things.
Don't listen to me though, I'm just the hard-up-for-a-sale electronics guy that will say anything for a sale... - helloworld45, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'd rather have the 1G shuffle over the 2G just because you need that dock for the 2G and can't use it as a usb stick.
- Dolomite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Just picked mine up at the local Apple store yesterday. They had plenty there.

So who's right? - coreyDehlert, on 10/12/2007, -3/+52G is 2nd generation, not 2GB. The Shuffle is only 1GB.
- lennon2600, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22G schmucks. Not 2gb. 2G.
- casparwhittey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42G, 5G, etc, that's just how they call all the different iPods man. Confusing, maybe. Something you can learn to live with, defintely.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i just got my email confirmation from the apple online store that my 2g shuffle has shipped.
It is shipping from suzhou, china
Est. Delivery by Nov 3.
Probably will be delayed since FedEx down here at my university blows. they keep the package 10 minutes away from my dorm for 3 days for no real reason. - dirtmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"According to multiple sources"
lawl - zip22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how much is the s10? is it even available?
i agree it does look like a great product, but i have not heard of it actually being for sale yet. when it is, i believe it will be more expensive than the shuffle. apple also has its retail stores, service, and is a well known brand.
another reason would be the first generations sound quality. many people are banking on the second generation being as good.
don't worry too much, your nano lasts 3 times longer than the s10 (at the expense of being twice the weight and a bit less than twice the size) - chrishorob, on 01/05/2009, -1/+2Just got a shipping confirmation for mine today. I ordered it on September 30th so I am happy to see the wait will soon be over.
- Hoffer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I ordered one the day it was announced and have got my shipping notice. Can't wait!! I use the first gen shuffle all the time.
- TheRealDeal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey Dolomite, where do you live? Also, what are your thoughts on the new Shuffle since you now have it in your hands.
- blanski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was at walmart yesterday and I saw it there.
- unleashedlive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Mine still says Oct. 31st
Futureshop and Best Buy still say Nov. 10th - EGO822, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There are some people on ebay that claim that there will be an initial shipment on october 31st.
- TechPedia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Dolomite: Wow. Strange that your local Apple store would sell you one 3 days before they're allowed to.
- acearchie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well i was discussing with a friend that it wont be long until a 3rd-Party accesory company makes a headphone jack to USB 2.0 cable so then it will be just a portable (possibly more) than the 1G!
- acearchie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well i believe we can trust macrumors.
The post is 1 day later than think secret! maybe some extra info was sourced!!!
I ordered one for a friends birthday on Oct 20th only to find 10 days later it hasn't arrived.
I just hope this is genuine! - mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6Dreamcast wasn't surperior. At least not in terms of hardware, but that little thing had more killer games in it's short life than any other 128 console that came out after it.
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Mine just left Red China.
- jonnyfatman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Would it not have been clearer to mention 'Second Generation' rather than 2G in the title? Or is it just because only people 'in the know' would understand and that's who it was aimed at?
- BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Well, because most people don't want to buy an expensive product from a company called "iRiver". People want to go with established brands like Panasonic, Sony, Apple, Microsoft, Samsung, etc.
- lax767, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1wait wait, i thought it was a 1 gig shuffle. I ordered mine on the 12th of september, the day they were released and I still dont have it yet.
- egotripping, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2That's debatable.
- JerodSlay, on 10/12/2007, -12/+22GB shuffle???? If you fill that up with songs, you'll never be able to find the song you want. with the 512, there's only so many songs you have to skip through to get to the one ou might be wanting at that time. But with 2GB..... you need a screen I'd think. I don't know, that's just me. I always felt the shuffles were good for small amounts of music (a few cd's worth) and not much more. If I have 2GB of music, I'd want a screen to navigate it.
- Chakz, on 10/12/2007, -21/+5Why aren't more people getting the iRiver S10? It's clearly superior to the shuffle. I wish I didn't buy my nano and waited a couple weeks instead.
- rewritable, on 10/12/2007, -24/+1I just ordered a 1GB shuffle yesterday...........This is *****......***** YOU APPLE I ***** HATE YOU. NEXT TIME PUT UP A ***** NOTICE YOU EVIL *****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
