- Settra, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7Uh. I can put .txt files on my mini, and I can read them..
- danielwsmithee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I agree it is not cumbersome at all.
- crash331, on 10/12/2007, -19/+6Wasn't this just on the frontpage like 2 days ago?
......yep....
http://www.digg.com/apple/iPod_eBook_Creator_convert_books_into_notes_on_iPod- kurupt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I believe the difference between this submission and the one from a few days ago are quite different. That submission was for converting eBooks into Notes. This submission also includes the conversion tool for an entire web page.
- tdhurst, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9WHO FRICKIN' CARES!?!?!?!
Oh, wait, you're a member of the Digg Police, aren't you? - stmiller, on 10/31/2007, -1/+5Yeah, but this one was submitted by Kevin.

- short_man, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Uh... how is making a txt file and copying it to your ipod hard?
- kurupt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I think the purpose of this application is more than just placing a text file onto your hard drive. It's actually taking a large document and then splitting it up into several text files so that when you open it up on your iPod, you're able to view them seperately, as they are linked together (essentially an eBook.)
For instance, say you've got a tutorial that you're interested in reading but, the length of it is tremendous. If you were to place the text file onto your iPod, it would be quite a pain to scroll through thousands of lines of text just to get back to the place you last left off at. By making it into an eBook, you can easily scroll through and find where you last left off and continue reading up. - swaxhog, on 10/31/2007, -3/+7No, the hard part was injecting the website name every other line inside the file for you.

- samtajain79, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0great for everyone
http://www.articles-hub.com - renzodesign, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2better site
(kinda)
http://www.ambience.sk/ipod-ebook-creator/ipod-book-notes-text-conversion.php- kurupt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Perhaps but, as mentioned above, the difference between that site and this submission is the fact that this submission also allows the conversion of an entire web-page.
- darkmotion, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1lol putting notes on an ipod is like a function that was created with the 1st gens haha
- dinkola, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Tried the web page function with www.wired.com, and it didnt work. Looks like a bit more work to be done. Should really figure out frames/tables/etc and create a file for each.
- ThreeGs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2A better way to do this is with Phil Dow's Journaler. Dow a demigod for Mac enthusiasts, has made this 5 mice freeware available at http://phildow.net
- boxc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah, the software looks good. i can see who submitted the site.. but for some reason this page kinda looks like spam, when compared to the previous one that was submitted.
- Raithmir, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Super.
- migitalwarfare, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't really see myself sitting down and reading anything longer than a shopping list on my iPod
- mobilehavoc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Get a pda or smartphone. What's the point of reading notes on your iPod (assuming because it's mobile) if you need a PC to create them?
- FromanylanD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.podsync.com/podnote.htm
- MyLittlePony, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When I want notes on my iPod I just use this...

Pen based input... stereo output. :) - sandofsky, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Costs money, but: http://www.talkingpanda.com/iwriter/
- decemberfall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This would have been exceptionally handy, before I bought my Pocket PC phone, because I carry both the phone and Video IPod everywhere, and I'm extremely forgetful. It may still have it's uses though, but mainly I'll probably stick with the tasks on the phone.
- grayling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The problem isn't getting text onto the iPod (nano), the problem is that it will only display the first X characters of the files. X being too small, I'm gussing 64k or less, I haven't checked what it is exactly though.
Does this service take care of splitting files into properly sized chunks?- phord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, ipod-notes splits the file. (and X is 4000. Not even 4k. 4000 characters.)
- sturm2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is windows-based, but can convert from PDF aswell. And it can be used to manage ebooks once theyre on the iPod...
http://ipodlibrary.sturm.net.nz - eismcsquare, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Let me be the first to say that iRiver has this feature with their awesome H3xx series for some years now!
- sixsicsix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i'm sure this will get burried, and fast, but why does a story about putting txt files on your ipod get over a thousand diggs.... oh ... because kevin rose submitted it...
- phord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Same story, different site, two days ago, submitted by someone else, got almost 900 diggs. ipod-notes is just better because it does web pages, th'assall.
And I guess Kevin is good for a couple hundred more votes.

- DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The notes feature in the iPods is more powerful than some might think, notes can include links to other notes and even links to songs.
Some museums use it to make an interactive tour using the iPod. - dusoft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Check also:

iPod ebbok creator - conversion of text file to linked Notes for iPod - KillMeSarah, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2People should really check it out before posting dismissive comments. This is actually a great utility. The iPod is surprisingly friendly on the eyes when it comes to reading things, in no small part to the click wheel which lets you smoothly scan the page. But Notes has two fundamental problems. One is that Notes can be no longer than 4K apiece. If you transfer something larger it simply cuts out the extra text. Secondly, the iPod recognizes only the most basic of HTML. No formatting tags (except the BR tag) work on the iPod, and instead of hiding it, it prints all of the tags it doesn't recognize. The iPod Notes Packager (almost) instantly breaks a single file into as many files as needed with the character restrictions and creates "chapters" which link to each other within the notes. Secondly, it also strips out any HTML that the iPod won't recognize. It does all this and presents you with a zip file you can extract to your notes folder, ready to go, in about 5 seconds.
- BryanJK, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Its a really nice utility, I like how its at 1337 diggs also :)
