- P373Y, on 10/15/2007, -0/+10they made an update to fix that.
install 1.1 - sleepwalkers, on 10/15/2007, -0/+5No, it's the 5G firmware modded to "closely match" the new iPod Classic's firmware.

- MrPineapples, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Me too. I've tried holding select & play but get nothing? All that I get is the glowing apple logo & the backlight goes off & on every few seconds? yikes!

- PathDaemon, on 11/05/2007, -4/+28This isn't the new firmware! It's just a skin for the old to make it look new... ish.
Meh.- smallchaz, on 07/05/2008, -0/+0It's just a skin.
But I like the skin :P
- smallchaz, on 07/05/2008, -0/+0It's just a skin.

- evanstapler, on 10/15/2007, -0/+13Just loaded it onto my iPod. A few minor issues, but it's in good shape. My thanks to all who worked on it.
- DeathJux, on 10/18/2007, -4/+80As neat as the new iPods' firmware is, I prefer the stability and simplicity of the traditional iPod Video firmware... though if anyone has a compelling reason to switch, other than aesthetics, I'm all ears.
- shad0w, on 10/15/2007, -1/+25Yeah, I was hoping that someone had put the old ipod firmware on the new iPod Classics. The new firmware is so slow and clunky.
- jeffchuck, on 10/15/2007, -0/+13"though if anyone has a compelling reason to switch, other than aesthetics, I'm all ears."
I would very much like to have the new search feature available on my old "iPod Photo." - sleepwalkers, on 10/15/2007, -0/+8There's one thing that some people haven't seemed to recognize yet..
This isn't really the iPod Classic firmware backported. This is a modded 5G firmware, made to resemble the Classic's updates. It doesn't look all that great, and watching the video on the site turned me off to it.- Mike89, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Link to video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUL_LZ4Xq7w
- 80hd, on 10/15/2007, -1/+2I tried out the new Nano recently and was way dissapointed with how slow and unresponsive it was. Maybe it's been fixed but even using the scroll wheel to move up and down song lists felt like watching a laggy slideshow. It made the instant reaction of my old mini seem attractive again.
- diggimator, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2How recently? Because the second firmware update was released this month (1.0.2) and it improves performance issues.
- j1a1g1, on 10/16/2007, -51/+3I'll wait till Apple releases this themselves!
- sacr3dc0w, on 10/16/2007, -4/+71Yeah that won't happen

- wilhel1812, on 10/15/2007, -0/+4they want you to buy iPod classic for this, not just upgrade your old one for free. i lvoe apple but sorry
- DDDavinnn, on 10/15/2007, -2/+19The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later.
- ZigVicious, on 10/15/2007, -2/+12Grab it now at Driven Design!
Thanks to all of the developers, first and foremost.
H3X, bounci.rabbit.123, vettefan, saXas, matthew98, supernatural, and myself (xxDriveNxx).
Been quite the project, almost a month straight of resource hacking.
Hope everyone enjoys it. I know I have been.
Version 1.0 is now ready for download.
Head on over and see for yourself.
Also, don't forget to show the devs some love. It's been a lot of work.
Enjoy Everyone!

Finally, after a long wait, the 5.5 Generation version of iPod Classic for iPod video is here.
This is a version of the 5.5G firmware that turns your old iPod video into a classic.
One major bug is still the search feature. We can’t do anything about that yet for reasons.
Thanks to all of the hardworking devs: xxDriveNxx , bounci.rabbit.123, vettefan, matthew98, supernatural, saXas, and myself (H3X).
Thanks to everyone who has posted in our threads and given us suggestions.
This is version one(now 1.01) of this hack. Expect another version in a little while. One thing I think would be cool to have is an auto-installer. A program that you can open and check of what you want as extras then push install and it will install to your iPod. Right now, though, you have to use iPod Wizard.
The extras included for this hack is the big album art on main menu, and different outlines for the mini now playing album art.
It also has a mini now playing on every menu, except the main menu.
When you install this, it should tell you to plug in your cable, so do so. Leave the cable plugged in. Do not restart your ipod or disconnect you sable while it is doing his! It could brick your iPod!
We are not responsible if you brick your iPod.
You need iPodWizard 1.3.7 to do this! It will not work with 1.3.0!
Updates
-Version 1.01 is out now. It fixes the photo section and part of the background
-Version 1.02 is out now. It fixes the search feature completely. Thanks to matthew98.

- bobbothegrayson, on 10/15/2007, -0/+5http://rapidshare.com/files/62612007/iPod_Classic_ ...
for 5.5 gen. just load it into ipod wizard 1.3.7 and hit write to ipod
make sure you eject it from itunes before you disconnect the cable or you could brick it.

- benedictkenny, on 10/15/2007, -6/+34I don't get what this means.
- Mexrocker, on 10/16/2007, -18/+1being able to use the firmware from the old iPod Videos to the newer iPod videos or iPod classics as it is called now.
- stormgren, on 10/23/2007, -0/+18Cross that. Reverse it.
You can make your OLD video act like the NEW iPod, not the other way around.
- stormgren, on 10/23/2007, -0/+18Cross that. Reverse it.
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 10/19/2007, -0/+8You can make your iPod Video look and somewhat act like the iPod Classic
- XdigitalXdeathX, on 10/15/2007, -1/+1I am confused.
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 10/15/2007, -0/+3You iPod Video will have similar graphics and the half screen layout that the Classic does. What's not to understand?
- XdigitalXdeathX, on 10/15/2007, -1/+1I am confused.
- zeyad, on 10/15/2007, -2/+1The iPod Classic came with some new features including a new interface and Cover Flow. This new firmware is not available for the iPod Video (5 or 5.5). Now it is with this new hack or w/e u wanna call it.
More info about the new interface, Cover Flow, and Search here: http://www.apple.com/ipodclassic/features.html- wilhel1812, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1this wont give you coverflow and stuff...
- Mexrocker, on 10/16/2007, -18/+1being able to use the firmware from the old iPod Videos to the newer iPod videos or iPod classics as it is called now.
- RadiantBeing, on 10/15/2007, -1/+15The old firmware was snappier. The new one is starting to show bloat.
- LuisM, on 10/15/2007, -0/+8does somebody knows if my hacked games will still work with this upgrade?
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1I believe they should. Just save your firmware and reload it if it doesn't.
- ksong12, on 10/15/2007, -4/+2I'm not quite sure about your "hacked" games, but games bought through the iTunes Store WILL NOT work. You may have to purchase them again, if possible at all.
- sleepwalkers, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2So wait... Changing to a different version of the same firmware invalidates games?
- NikZ, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1No, guy doesn't know what he's talking about. iTunes-bought games are working just fine on my iPod using this FW.
That said, this FW really isn't worth the trouble. The animations are buggy and the graphics are horrible. I'll be reverting back as we speak.
- NikZ, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1No, guy doesn't know what he's talking about. iTunes-bought games are working just fine on my iPod using this FW.
- sleepwalkers, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2So wait... Changing to a different version of the same firmware invalidates games?
- colincornaby, on 10/18/2007, -3/+35Looks like a theme, not the actual new firmware with all the nifty animations. I think the iPod Classic uses new hardware, so the new firmware won't actually work on the old iPods.
- kennyGS13, on 10/15/2007, -0/+9yeah looks like no cover flow or anything like that
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 10/16/2007, -4/+1CoverFlow is in the process of being made. No one is sure if it is possible yet but it is being worked on.
- kennyGS13, on 10/15/2007, -0/+9yeah looks like no cover flow or anything like that
- xlent, on 10/15/2007, -0/+3does it provide the search function in the original 5g version?

Judge stability for yourself ;)- ElectroBot, on 10/15/2007, -2/+4It looks quite stable (I watched about 2/3 of the video), but there do appear to be a lot of bugs
- the artist/song selection was only 2/3 of the screen
- music doesn't stop when video starts playing
- no sound in video - b/c of music playing (most likely)
- the first search result was in the same line as the search text
- music quiz didn't stop "trains" song and start it's own- chrisbarr, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1the artist/song election is actually supposed to be like that. On the new Classic iPods it had the album cover(s) for that artist or whatever displayed in that area. But in the video that's just blank space, so it's not really 100% there yet. That plus no cover flow and people claiming to have problems - I'm not doing it quite yet.
- NOFXY, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2the song is playing through his laptop. not the ipod. read the description.
- ElectroBot, on 11/01/2007, -2/+1I think I'll stick with my 3G 15GB B/W iPod until Apple/Rogers releases the iPhone in Canada (with a decent plan and for a decent price - not the $799 CDN/USD claimed in one rumor)
BTW Posting this from my C2D 2GHz 1GB MacBook which is going to be "upgraded" (sold and recplaced) with a newer model within the next 3 months before the 1yr warranty runs out.- melllvar37, on 11/01/2007, -0/+2Posting this from my Quad Core 16GB Mac pro which is going to be "upgraded" (sold and replaced) with a newer model within the next 3 months before the 1yr warranty runs out: i dont ***** care about your specs what does your mb have to do with the firmware???
- XxIronhidexX, on 10/15/2007, -1/+1Wow he actually had WWE matches in his videos.
- ElectroBot, on 10/15/2007, -2/+4It looks quite stable (I watched about 2/3 of the video), but there do appear to be a lot of bugs
- damien6669, on 10/15/2007, -0/+17I am impressed with the feat... it's quite cool. But what I see is they cut off half the screen, all function seems the same as the old firmware. I don't see the point of lagging the iPod.
- Karmavs, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1In this theme, it just means you don't have to go to the Now Playing screen to know what's playing - on the Classic, the split has lots of oher purposes too - but most it allows you to see relevant information about a menu without going into it - eg: the clock menu item displays a clock on the right hand side
- SuperSunny, on 10/23/2007, -3/+35Mac version!? There is no iPod Wizard for Mac OS X...ironically
- YoungGeekGuy, on 10/23/2007, -1/+0There will be, there getting donations to work on it, I heard of another program to do it with though, sorry I don't recall what its called.
- Tempest261, on 10/15/2007, -5/+8Question: Does this disable the video out? You know, where you can plug in the A/V cable in the headphone port and get L/R/Video. I know this is disabled on the true iPod classic (stupid Apple).
- xxDriveNxx, on 10/16/2007, -0/+2Video out is still functional.
- YoungGeekGuy, on 10/16/2007, -0/+0Sure is, all apple did was make a totally new type of firmware design as far as I'm concerned, its nice to see you guys have come this far with a different type of firmware eh drive?
- xxDriveNxx, on 10/16/2007, -0/+2Video out is still functional.
- Shaggy3, on 10/15/2007, -3/+14I didn't even know people cared that much to develop this..
- DaffyDuck, on 10/15/2007, -1/+13Now you know.
- RomeyRome, on 10/15/2007, -1/+5Nevermind.
- F15Goose, on 10/15/2007, -0/+0no, it doesn't kill hacked games.
driven-design.net is another site for this. just click classic project at the top. - Apocalyptic0n3, on 10/15/2007, -2/+33I did a ***** of graphical work for this project and not one mention? c'mon Aaron and H3X. =
- YoungGeekGuy, on 10/16/2007, -0/+0Yup, I was there the whole time, you helped out, heres living proof for non believers!
- xxbrighteyed, on 10/15/2007, -1/+3Thanks and all, but i hate the half-screen menu
Can we turn that off and keep the rest? and I'd like to see the new now playing screen with the reflection and slanted cover art, if it's possible on the hardware- Apocalyptic0n3, on 10/15/2007, -0/+3The whole hack is based around the 60/40 screen so they'd have to redo the entire hack (Which took a month and a half to do). As for the reflection and slanted artwork, not possible. Sorry. You can do it in Photoshop though. Take forever, however.
- xxbrighteyed, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Well thanks for taking the time to reply, i wont be shopping my entire artwork library, but i am interested to start looking into hacking the iPod firmware after seeing this, to maybe install some of the eye candy but not all of it
I plan to have a 160gb classic by year's end anyway, but it's very goodlooking and you should be proud - ChromaVita, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1If you did want to do it in photoshop, the easiest way would be to create an action, but it would still take a long ass time.
- xxbrighteyed, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Well thanks for taking the time to reply, i wont be shopping my entire artwork library, but i am interested to start looking into hacking the iPod firmware after seeing this, to maybe install some of the eye candy but not all of it

- adc89, on 10/16/2007, -3/+31I thought this was the real firmware from the classic. Disappointing.
- bhavi, on 10/15/2007, -1/+4Last I checked Apple wasnt.. well.. Microsoft
- YoungGeekGuy, on 10/16/2007, -0/+0Do you know how long this took, a month and a half, you should be more great full, I know its not the classic firmware, but for know thats impossible, although the way ipod wizard is nothing is impossible!
- Protoss, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1I cannot get this to work on my 30gig 5G. Anyone successfully flash this to a 5G?
- DennisPwnsj00, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1I got it to work, but the first time I tried I bricked it. After I restored the iPod through Disk Mode + iTunes, it updated and worked fine.
- DennisPwnsj00, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2Update on that... When I sync'ed my 3000 songs, it died again.
- YoungGeekGuy, on 10/16/2007, -0/+0Worked fine for me, every version available to the public prior to this as well! Mines a 60gb, make sure you pick up the 5g download!
- DennisPwnsj00, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1I got it to work, but the first time I tried I bricked it. After I restored the iPod through Disk Mode + iTunes, it updated and worked fine.

- pingudownunder, on 10/15/2007, -1/+0just found it ... doh ... poster above got the reply i was looking for :)
- digitallysick, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1I watched the video its nice, i like it
- HappyScrappy, on 10/15/2007, -1/+10This is not as advertised. It's basically a skin that makes your iPod screen layout a bit like the new one. The most notable change is that it makes it so the right half of your screen is either blank or has incorrect info on it.
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1I've been running beta builds for about a month now. Not once has it displayed incorrect information in it.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2Check the video above.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUL_LZ4Xq7w
When you go to the Artists list or whatever, it draws nothing on the right (blank). If you go to now playing and click a few times, it does draw the currently playing song over there. But then if you go out of now playing back to the artists, etc. lists, it fails to up that item, so it how is showing incorrect data on the right hand side.- Apocalyptic0n3, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Did you not read what I wrote? I have been using this for over a month and was part of the development process. There are no problems like that. I've never seen anything like that happen, especially on the public release.
- BryanJK, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Thanks for the video, I just watched it and realized how disappointing that would be to have put on my iPod >:(
- HappyScrappy, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2Check the video above.

- RomeyRome, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Did they include the hacked games? Don't want to lose those...
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1From what I have heard, they do work. I don't use them though (With 50 gigs of Music and iPod formatted video it's kinda hard on a 30Gig iPod) so I haven't personally tested them
- odecom5, on 10/17/2007, -8/+25here I thought it was Apple who was going to do something nice for its users and offer a firmware upgrade.
i guess i was thinking of Microsoft. silly me.- monsterofNone, on 10/15/2007, -4/+2shill
- RadiatedAnt, on 10/17/2007, -2/+4lol silly rabbit Zunes are for grownups.
- F15Goose, on 10/15/2007, -1/+0you can get ipodwizard at
getipodwizard.com - apollomurga, on 10/17/2007, -1/+1I like the new Classic, i don't really notice that much clunkiness in the interface. I like it because you get the same things and a bigger hard drive for about the same price.
- ejfisher, on 11/14/2007, -5/+16Zune version please.
- ahintoflime, on 10/15/2007, -2/+6Does this have the Cover flow? Cause cover flow is sexy.
- bbland, on 10/15/2007, -0/+3no cover flow.

- Kenban, on 10/16/2007, -0/+1If you made a backup before you wrote the firmware it should be easy to fix. Just hold the center and play buttons while its in the boot loop and it will kick the iPod into disk mode. From there just connect it to the computer open iPodWizard and write your backup. Not sure if the official iPod updates will run but that might work if you did not make a backup. One other option is to try to find someone else's backup online and just restore that.
- Jeezoflip, on 10/15/2007, -0/+4good work, honestly. but ill pass due to it doesnt look like its fully working. i rather have a primative iPod then a ***** up one.
- ksong12, on 10/15/2007, -6/+1Tip: Download the firmware file, go to iTunes into your iPod, Hold Shift, and click the Restore button. You will be able to choose the firmware file.
(Works in Mac this way)- benjaminmktn121, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1not working for me. help?
- bbland, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2HE LIES!
- amitgir, on 10/15/2007, -2/+2how about the "classic" look on an ipod touch...for nostalgic sake (and an easy access to volume control)
- TechnoMutant, on 10/15/2007, -0/+0can you still sync from itunes after the firmware update?
- jasongdx, on 10/15/2007, -0/+4Auto-syncing bricked mine. It kept trying to boot over and over. I had to put it in Disk Mode (hold center button and play) so iTunes could recognize the iPod and restore the original firmware.
Unless you really like the look of the new firmware, don't bother with this. This isn't really an "upgrade" but rather it is a modification of the iPod video's default firmware.
There is no cover flow, no search, no album art previews -- none of that.- YoungGeekGuy, on 10/16/2007, -0/+0Mine works fine, search is only on 5.5g anyways.

- SamboGT, on 10/15/2007, -0/+13I'm bricked. *****.
- jasongdx, on 10/15/2007, -0/+6Connect the iPod to your computer and hold down the center button and play/pause until it puts itself into Disk Mode. Open iTunes and restore the original firmware. Hope you get it worked out.
- DTJunkie07, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Can some one give a tutorial of what to do when you have your ipod loaded into ipod wizard...i tried just winging it and it bricked me.
- Scrios, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Under Edit Mode select 'Firmware File' and open the 'iPod Classic for 5.5G' file you downloaded.
Press Write to iPod. Do what it says. On mine there was a plug icon on-screen while it was doing it's thing, then it booted into the new version. - bbland, on 10/15/2007, -7/+1noob
- uhperson, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2Only noobs say 'noob'.

- neverlookback75, on 10/15/2007, -0/+0That's one of the "features" of the new iPod's

http://www.ipodwizard.net/showthread.php?t=30444 - DennisPwnsj00, on 10/15/2007, -2/+3nvm... digg down if you want. :P
- politicalslug, on 10/15/2007, -0/+0Ok. I tried it and it offers nothing but the worst feature of the new interface (half the screen for text) and none of the useful features (i.e. better animations and coverflow). Not to mention what's up with the text at the top in the stopwatch (it's double typed and illegible).
So how to I get my old 5.5 interface back? Please help!- jasongdx, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Click on your iPod in iTunes and then click the Restore button. This is the easiest way, but you'll have to sync all of your content again.
- YoungGeekGuy, on 10/16/2007, -0/+0Coverflow is not the most useful feature in the world and when were better animations an actual useful feature, all they do is look better! Ya just restore, if you ever do this again, back up your original first then you wont have to reload your songs ;)
