- ripismoney, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41This could get interesting. I'm not sure I'm sold on the whole touchscreen thing. Seems to me like moving your finger around a virtual wheel on the screen would leave a lot of dirt, grease, and oil (fingerprints) behind...
- tjpeople, on 10/12/2007, -6/+42wow, they look real good, very convincing with angles and everything but who knows if they are real.
Would be very nice addition but tbh they look to much like what we expect it to look like and usually people guess wrong. but who knows. - hackman7, on 10/12/2007, -6/+39I think its a fake. Here's proof:
http://techmanifesto.com/images/reflection.jpg
If you take a look at the reflection at these levels you can see that the digital click wheel reflects over the counter. Think about this, in real life, that would not do that like this at all. It would just be like an LCD reflecting on that material.
Maybe I am wrong, but what do you guys think? It looks like a photoshop of the current white one.
I really want some video or something of this. That would be amazing. But, I seriously can't wait... :) - livesunkept, on 10/12/2007, -11/+42My theory....
iPod Gloves... meaning... white gloves... lol
~ William - AggieTales, on 10/12/2007, -7/+37Here's a big hint as to whether they are real or not: the edges seem to be inconsistent in the pictures.
The first and last ones seem to have the front edges of the 5G iPod, kinda flat. While the second picture seems to have the front edges of the 4G iPod, a nice rounded edge.
Plus, in the second picture, threre's a distinct break point in the "screen" at almost exact middle, suggesting that the "screen" is in fact two halves made up of two pictures, kinda like what was shown in the "Making a Fake iPod" video

- energyblue, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27UPDATE:
For proof its fake, check this post:
http://www.macshrine.com/forums/showthread.php?p=8654&posted=1#post8654 - IppatsuMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18It's a fake. Proof: the ratio of width/height of the screen in the first picture is 2,131. The ratio height/width in the third image is 1,669 (just use the measure tool of any graphic program to test it). The difference is too high to be a perspective distortion.

- mrhaines, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18I would only believe this if it was a video of the IPod AV, too easy to fake photographs.

- Ozmotear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11hmm... Same form factor as a 30GB iPod, but with 2x the screen.
1 hour battery life should be fine for most videos anyway. ;) - beelz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Ok fine u made me do it i went and made this to show u its fake. got the specs from apple. shows the size

geez, people sure like to complain. - chillypepper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9actually it would look like that, the only thing that keeps me from believing is the clarity of the screen... when Ive tried taking pictures of my ipod, it looks like crap

Enjoy. - BBX25, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13With all the fakes circulating around the internet, I'm not persuaded enough to believe this.
Photoshop is some amazing software. - TeKoverride, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7So when does the hoax photoshop video come out for these pictures?
- lavi, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14What the hell are you doing when you use your iPod? How do you get dirt and grease on it? Working on your car in the garden?
Screen protectors guys!!! Have you not heard of screen protectors? I have a Qtek 9100 pocket pc. I use screen protectors and use my fingers and if its dirty just wipe it with your shirt and it gets clean. Not very hard. After a while remove the screen protector and stick on a new one. They only cost a few cents anyway.
I have noticed that when the screen is on you don't really notice the finger prints. They are only noticeable when the screen is off.
Anyone know why? - neoform, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11This is obviously a fake. Why the hell would apple put "Ice Age" on an ipod?? ICE AGE ISN'T A PIXAR MOVIE.
- treytech, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Did it ever occur to you that if you flip it over, the top becomes the bottom?
- jackmaninov, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Apple was founded on April 1st; they like to do conferences on their birthday!
- wolrah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9so obviously fake.
- hater2win, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8You guys are OBVIOUSLY overlooking the fact that Apple openly lets people view trailers for MANY movies that have nothing to do with pixar/apple. On the Quicktime website, you can see the Ice Age 2 trailer (the trailer is being shown on the iPod in those pictures). You are being overly critical of what is being done here.
- lane.montgomery, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8That does look real, you can even see where the LCD get's that "negetive" effect when it's tilted at that extreme angle.
- fogster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Jack, I think I agree with your initial point. If you look closely at the first image, there seems to be a faint line running down the middle. And there's that black line on the right of the iPod (first image still), not sure what that's from. The screen is also much, much brighter than the iPod Nano it's next to, though this could be by design.
Probably fake, but definitely impressive! - Axon, on 10/12/2007, -10/+16I agree. I don't want to see a ring of crap on the screen while watching a movie
- traviswalters, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Would a touchscreen iPod really need the wheel? You would be able to just pick your menu item with your finger. I would imagine Apple just putting an iTunes like interface on it. Where you would have seperate buttons for next, back, play, and volume. You could just drag your finger down the list of songs. That's my guess, I just don't see the need for a wheel anymore with a touch screen.

- ForbesBingley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I think that could be real. Given that the two iPods are on top of an iPod Hi-Fi, which has only just shipped.
This design is also consistent with the rumours.
And if you look at the bottom shot, the screen has subtle distortion lines. That's either an incredible eye for detail on the part of the hoaxer, or this thing is the real thing... - ApplCmptrDood, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It's fake. I know this because... The song Fack (shown on the iPod), is 3 minutes and 25 seconds in real life, and in the pics, it shows it as being a four minute song. whoever made that, you're pwned.
- techlinks, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8What the heck are you going on about? Ever heard of a 90 degree counter clockwise turn?
Someone needs to take Grade 2 math again. - tablatronix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Its obviously fake. Screens are simulated.
Why would apple make a device you cant even hold ?
Serisouly how are you supposed to hold this ? Why do all the fakers keep making it look the same idiotic format.
It needs somewhere to grasp with the thumb , thats why we have thumbs. - Misunderstood, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If the screen was so big, wouldn't it drain a lot more of the battery? Looks awesome though.
- Quactaur, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Check the site; it says they were resized on photoshop.
And if they had photoshopped it, i'm sure they wouldn't have been so stupid as to leave the photoshop stamp on the file; particularly after they've mentioned it on the site themselves. - Sblader5, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7well these might still be fake... but its not because of the reflection. I agree that you can see the wheel but why couldn't that just be the image on the lcd. how is that impossible. But if they want to prove us wrong, just release a video of it. I think most/all will believe then.
- curtissthompson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Overall there is very little in the images that points to them being fakes, and the few points that lead people to think it is faked can just as easily be used affirmatively as just due to lighting/camera angles! I for one wouldn't doubt the images to be real, and even if they're not, apple is in a tough position now, whether they initially intended for such an iPod to be released, there is far to much pressure and expectation from their fans/public to not succum to it and produce such a product, especially being that their 30th anniversary is coming up on April 1st (Irony: April Fools Day), they can't afford not to do something with their iPod!
Although down the road, not only do I see a 4+ inch screen coming to the iPod, I also expect to see radio and Wi-Fi to be included in next gen iPods! I have a 5G 60GB White iPod, and even if these pictures are real I dont think I will buy it unless it at least has Wi-Fi capability included in it, or a really nice accessory that adds Wi-Fi to it, kind of like the iPod Radio Reciever recently released! The touch screen if released this way, I'm sure will come with or you'll be able to buy separately specially designed cases for it, or screen protectors in one form or another to prevent the screen from damage or dirt!
If I see Wi-Fi abilities then I will jump at the opportunity, as that will open a new realm of possibilities for the iPod, though I don't see Wi-Fi being included in the 6th gen iPod, as apple enjoys taking baby steps with their products to ensure success because half of their profits for the company come from their music devision, one big mistake and it could tear the fabric of the company apart. Also, in taking baby steps with their iPods they gain massive profits as everyone will be looking to get the latest iPod features, or it will draw in those who haven't yet come to the iPod (examples: iPod mini-->iPod Nano.......iPod Photo-->iPod Video.....iPod Video-->"True" Ipod Video/hd/wifi?)! - sHARD>>, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Here's a chat log when I was discussing it with a friend. Too lazy to make this a real post:
[03/05 01:25 PM] sHARD>>: Notice how on the first shot, the iPod looks too skinny and long to fit in the dock, and in the last shot, wow, it fits in the dock
[03/05 01:26 PM] sHARD>>: and in the second image the picture on the screen looks amazingly 'shopped
[03/05 01:26 PM] sHARD>>: bottom edge is at the wrong angle (slightly)
[03/05 01:26 PM] sHARD>>: and the picture has too much contrast for that angle
[03/05 01:30 PM] sHARD>>: Plus the angle where the weird negativety starts is nearly where a real video iPod's screen ends. - securitymonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6April 1 is Apple's anniversary. That would be great timing for such a monumental product release.
- dusingaz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The same way they do now on the iPod w/video you use the scroll wheel to scrub that is just the status bar to show you how your scrubbing is going.
- workofart, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6did you not see what they did with the 1gb nano?? my friend has one, there are NO scratches with that protective layer. i am guessing they would use the same thing.
