- mayana, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21That still qualifies as "collaboration" in my book.
Guess how much Mozilla makes by defaulting to the Google Search Engine in the toolbar? 76 percent of the $72m they made in 2004 came from the seemingly innocent link. (http://www.calacanis.com/2006/03/06/firefox-mozilla-corporation-mozilla-foundation-made-72m-last/)
Also, guess how much money Dell made by bidding off what default search tools get preinstalled into its machines?
There never was an official number but the Wall Street Journal said that the bidding between Google, Yahoo and Microsoft almost reached 1 billion dollars before Google won the deal!!! (http://www.engadget.com/2006/05/25/google-outbids-microsoft-for-dell-bundling-deal-sez-wsj/)
So linking from a widely distributed application is not as innocent as you might think. - Pliep, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18that's not collaboration, that is linking to a Google site. Address Book has a "map of" feature that links to MapQuest.com. Does that mean "MapQuest and Apple are up to something"?
- aceman118, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Google paying someone to put a link to their site is far from a collaboration. It's a one way deal. I don't expect to see any apple stuff popping up through google.
- cphuntington97, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I would rather see "collaboration" between iPhoto and Flickr.

- tadda, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@ aceman:
Is it really one-way? If this allows iPhoto users to add geo-context to their content and uses Google by default that looks like collaboration to me.
And these photos will likely be marked with a "Created by iPhoto" tag somewhere as well.
Also, we haven't seen what spurred this poking around to begin with (see the last line in article). - mayana, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3MTC found a way to unlock the hidden Google Map geotagging feature!
Check it out - http://digg.com/apple/iPhoto_Google_Maps_Geotagging_Unlocked - mayana, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Its already here -

- flypcide, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3This is pretty underwhelming news. I was expecting something much bigger of a collaboration than just geotagging features. Whoopdefreakin' do.
- andrewrchambers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is just for cameras with GPS funcitonality... or if you use a device like this:
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0608/06080202sonygpscs1.asp
just for pinpointing exactly where you were when you took the picture, say if you went on a holiday to australia or something.
i guess it owuld be pretty cool to go to googlemaps and then see all your photos displayed on the world map, or links to photo albums displayed on the world map.
this isn't exciting tho - its just an obvious use for having GPS metadata on a photo... - mayana, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3GPS capable camera?
Me thinks its the e911-compliant iPhone (which means, it has GPS capabilities) with a nice digital camera (>= 3 megapixel) and iTunes Support built-in.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E911 for more info.
Wooot!!!! - Markdoggin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4This would seem to speak of a gps capable camera. Might apple jump into such a market?
- benr75, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3iPhoto works well with flickr thorugh http://connectedflow.com/flickrexport/.
- bigkm, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6nice stumbling
- brianmost, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Can I be the one to start rumors of the Apple Phone having a camera with GPS marking?
- jrbrewin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2thanks for that.. expect digg frontpage to be full of more unsubstantiated mac rumours because of that one comment. *rolleyes*
- bugninja, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I use Google Maps on our websites, maybe we are collaborating with Google. Wouldn't that be a great press relese. COME ON, THIS IS REDICULOUS!!!!
- Morky, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I'd like to export to Picasa WebAlbums from iPhoto. I was just mentioning that to a coworker this morning.
- joerod, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2there is an app for iphoto and flickr..
