- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -10/+33You know what would be cool? The ability to send MMS messages.
- Hawkeye1980, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Timed update? :)
- mjesq, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I think it would just be cool to forward a text or mass text from my iPhone, but galleries are cool too I guess.
- Stirk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Unlikely. Apple probably knew when they were going to update .Mac and set the iPhones to add that button at the right time/date.
- thecompkid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5...or we could just try setting the clock ahead a year or two ;).
Hey, it works for trial software. - Merlyn383, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Technically, you can already do that with the iphone. All that MMS messages are are specially sent e-mails. If you have an iphone and have a friend w/o an iphone who has MMS capabilities, use your iphone to end a picture via e-mail to their phone address (1234567890@sprintpcs.com, if they have sprint, google around for other providers). Your friend will get it as a picture MMS.
- dcharti, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I was thinking the exact same thing, though it seems that it only switches on for .Mac members who have their .Mac account set on their iPhone.
Fortunately, I do, so this is totally cool. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5you can send photos to flickr quite easily using other phones.
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I can send emails with pictures for free. Perhaps, it being the year 2007, you should try getting an email account.
- enicholas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I've got a .Mac email address configured, and no extra button.
- xoineg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2looks like you need a .Mac account for it to show. I don't use it so mine has nothing, but my friends has it already.
- Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's quite plausible, given the tight integration of Apple's software. It's all done through iTunes, which not only contains your Apple ID (which Apple knows if you have .Mac) but now serves as the point of synchronization with Mail.app which would also know if you have .Mac service.
Of course, it's only one more tap to email it off to some secret email address that auto-uploads pics sent to it. I know my Photobucket account has this capability; I'd assume there's something along those lines available for Flickr as well. For DIYers, it wouldn't be especially difficult to do on your own server with some black magic in the language of your choice and a cron job, though it's hardly as simple and elegant. - wonderchemist, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2More likely they would make a deal with google first, see how iWeb got Google Adsense intergration.
In any case you can already post from your iPhone via, Flickr's upload by email feature. http://www.flickr.com/account/uploadbyemail/ - abrooks, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Got .Mac?
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Some people are reporting this came up without them having done an update for some time. Other than timing tied to having a .Mac address, how do you account for this showing up for everyone pretty much at the same time despite highly variable sync times?
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Do you have your .Mac email address set up to sync to the iPhone? That seems to be the trigger.
- mobilehavoc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1For the last time it's not a timed update because then all .Mac users with an iPhone would have the update at the same time. They basically updated people's .Mac accounts which triggered this feature on the iPhone. This is why some people have it and some people don't.
Not rocket science at all but amusing to see how easily people are impressed. - 37prime, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Time sensitive software deployments. Apple has thought about the iPhone a lot. I bet if we could dissect the source codes, we'll find some other time sensitive software "deployment" already installed in the iPhone.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Did you do your iPhone software update last week?
- toad22, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1thats how i submit my photos :)
- schavira, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Don't they have a deal with Yahoo? Why not make a Flickr sync?
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Perhaps with your non-iPhone plan that is true.
- THEMACGOD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I've had my .Mac account on my iPhone since i got it... the iPhone, that is.
Anyway, no extra button, no matter how many resets, syncs, etc. Maybe when iLife '08 gets in this weekend, the problem will resolve...
Although, the upgrade to 10gb disk space/100gb transfer a month was seamless, but GREATLY appreciated... - Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2And it's free to boot!
- lo0ol, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1For those of you who are nerds and are interested (this is digg, I know there will be more than a few)... I just did it and ran through most of the phone and couldn't spot anything new. I'm guessing there's something more than just a simple date check, possibly some sort of quick string sent to enable things like this. I mean, it did turn it into a 3G phone briefly, but it's just too big of a price to pay for a slightly inaccurate date and time.
- yaknowit, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1i agree with chris9902 and over9 is right - it ain't no big thing....there are several easy ways to post photos from phone 2 web. making it so easy that a moron can do it does not qualify as "exciting"
- fr0ng, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1mine hasn't either.
- drogers, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2AT&T doesn't charge anything to send emails, regardless of content or size. not sure where you got your info, but it's wrong....
- abandonedhero, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I don't blame AT&T, I blame you for being dumb enough to buy a crippled phone with a terrible carrier.
- imrichbitch, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1iphone r only 4 losers that cant afford a nokia n95
- dusingaz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1hmm, mine has not updated.
- Dagreenman, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3Oh, yeah thats nice. Now, about Flash and java........
- totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1So it knows who has .Mac accounts, and updates their iPhones selectively?
(no .Mac account here, no update :) ) - citrik, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0One down side is that it looks like you need iPhoto 08 to create a "Gallery". Kinda weak that you can't create it from the .mac page...
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2oh god. Is this really what I have to deal with on this site. I give up.
- thefirelane, on 10/10/2007, -7/+4Now everyone point and laugh at chris9902.
He doesn't understand a basic concept: If something is technically possible, but too difficult for average users, then functionally it is impossible. The iPod wasn't the first MP3 player, but it was the first to integrate a music experience perfectly on a large scale. No, sending photos isn't new, but sending them in such an integrated experience is, and its why its exciting. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2oh please don't go blaming at&t, blame apple for partnering with them knowing very well that all this ***** would happen.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1The iBeta continues.
- poohat1000, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2http://www.ipicli.com did this WEEKS ago
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2Not sure why you are getting dugg down. +digg
- gorgonzola22, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0This is news?
- gorgonzola22, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1Tell AT&T, I'm sure they'll be happy to get some extra $$$ out of you.
- joshHighland, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2If the image is over 300K, AT&T will charge you $0.50 per image to send. With the 2.0 megapixel cam that you cant scale down, most pictures are over 300K.
- vinterstille, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1So exactly like any phone can do with a small free mobile java app from http://shozu.com and flickr? Every time i take a snapshot with my aging Nokia N70 it asks me if I want to "Save to Flickr?"
- superpixel, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2now, how did they do that without bringing the grid down?
- siknali, on 10/10/2007, -9/+1That's kinda interesting. i guess they kinda have a Little control over our iphones at all times.......creepy. Wonder if they know how many iphones have been customized with icons and running "hello world" apps?
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -16/+5Sending photos by using a phone... ***** blow me down

What is Digg?
