- llsethj, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22Followed it. Now I have a sweet brick. I think it was my fault for using a prehacked iPhone
- moeyy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20Yes, but this method is pathetically confusing.
Soon there will be a much easier method that will simplify these steps into a press of a button.
I'd also like to add, that yes: They did figure out how to activate the Iphone without an AT&T account. :D excellent news. Thanks to the Dev Team! - cave, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11What i really wanna know is when will it be safe to upgrade a SIM-unlocked 1.0.2 phone. Awesome progress nonetheless, props to the dev team!
- BeingHuman, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8YAY! It's finally here! We should declare today a holiday or something.
It's a good guide, you should check it out. - Shaggy3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I hate being stuck with Verizon and in the iPod Touch minority. :(
- rawheadrex, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Right there with you. In fact, I might hazard a guess that most people who want to (and are willing to) try this are the people who did SIM-unlock 1.0.2 and hence have been waiting around with our fingers in our mouths hoping for a true "restore" to come around.
It's great that the Dev Team has been hard at work cracking 1.1.1, I just hope they're devoting some effort in getting us out of this pit. - yonis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4There's too many steps to ***** up – I'd wait for a more simple solution.
- compuguy1088, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5If you read it, then it would tell you that you should not attempt to do this if your phone is unlocked.....
- Xerodog, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Someone should create a One-Stop Site for all guides. Mac/iPhone, Windows/iPhone, Mac/Touch, Windows/Touch.
- omniatlas, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Unfortunately you still need an AT&T account. Props to the dev group though for the progress
- jimdiggity, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Too sketchy for most, people are already reporting problems...wait until the official Dev Team drops AppTapp to automatically install.
- ucbrave92, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3i am looking forward to trying this once it gets the kinks worked out, but what about if they release an SDK. I mean, we all know now that 1.0.2 was pretty much held together with duct tape and the iPhone wasn't truly finished until 1.1.1, and if this was case it makes since why they didn't release an SDK. We have the leopard announcement coming and Macworld just around the corner. I hope all this effort wasn't wasted and the apps can easily be ported over when an SDK is, IF EVER, announced.
- championchap, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4As much as I'd prefer a pay as you go iphone with apps that i can install myself.. i think i'd rather avoid all this "*****, i might brick the thing if i open itunes with it connected!!" stuff
There is a lot of confusion and worry over unlocking and installing to the iphone that i would just rather avoid.
I believe I will keep mine locked up when it comes to the UK launch. - ec92009, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3ouch
- Terc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Interstesting how it works on the iPod touch.
I had no idea there was a 1.1.1 -> 1.0.2 firmware downgrade on the touch.
Perhaps you should rtfa. - pengas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Go for it Xerodog!
- wjackson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The title clearly did not say "it all."
- gr4yscale, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2So, why can't we do this jailbreak on a linux box? It says you must have an intel mac. It appears to me that I should be able to run all of these tools on a *NIX box.
- orph3us, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2what about the touch?
- cave, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2I want to upgrade because of the double home button click shortcuts, and international typing. But yea, flash and java would beat all that. I find it a bit silly for steve jobs to say the iPhone doesn't have a watered down browser, when it doesn't support these widely spread technologies.
- mymate, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2even tho i dont have an iphone this shouldnt have been leaked, theres so many steps and theres gonna be alot of n00bs who are gonna try this and brick their iphone, i predict the final release will be alot simpler than this...
- xGrill, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1no, but if apple releases a patch for the TIFF expliot, and you patch your iPod touch, then you will not be able to jailbreak your iPod.
This method is only for the iPhone since iPod touch users can not downgrade to 1.02 - H3avyC, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2This is encouraging, perhaps within the next week or two, we'll have a much easier solution.
- romstah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1kudos to the iphone dev team, but shame on the ***** who leaked it.
- kkiran, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Will this mean AT&T non iPhone a/cs work? I am just wondering if my AT&T service (normal a/c) works straight out of the box like that in INdependence?
- cave, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Youre right, unocking the iPhone was a very stressful experience for me. I had to format it twice before I got it right, and at one point i was pretty sure I had it bricked - when apptapp installer hung on me, the phone got stuck on the yellow triangle warning, and iTunes wouldn't even recognize it for a restore. Thankfully after a reboot, iTunes recognized it again and I could restore the software. I'll definetly be thinking twice about upgrading to 1.1.1, even after there are user friendly hacking tools available. I don't need any more gray hairs.
- MajorPaine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1OK - I am as exited about this as anyone, but if you read the instructions, there is a very real, VERY big limitation on doing this... Only those people with an INTEL MAC can do the jailbreak for v1.1.1. (at least that is what the directions state). So anyone with only access to a Windows machine or an older Mac, there is nothing for us here... Obviously I hope they can get around this limitation quickly -- I would be bustin my iPhone free right now if I could run it on any of the machines I have. :(
- EBFoxbat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Should have it in 24 hours.
- EBFoxbat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It also tells of holding the shift key down on a PC so there's clearly something up.
- adrianc1982, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The real thing is 1.0.2 is not bad, using an unlocked iphone outside usa is the best, we can survive without the updates from apple. The only real use for this is the steps toward unlocking again the iphone, because newer iphones come with this firmware 1.1.1, that way we can buy more iphones and unlock them. If we could downgrade to 1.0.2 and also downgrade the modem with a normal recovery i wouldnt even be reading this news...
- wbienek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I have an out of the box 1.0 iPhone w/ apptapp and am completely happy with it.. and will NEVER upgrade it unless apple makes it worth it... ex : Flash 9 in the Browser... SDK.. Something good.. not piddling BS like higher Volume or lame 'o iTunes buy your DRM here store...
Wayne - hypher, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think most of this information has been around in #iphone-dev for a while now. But its true, this is not at all ready for primetime.
- ec92009, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Looks like we're talking hours here, not weeks
- Terc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Worked for me!
Hellooo Firmware 1.1.1! - kriminalintent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1can we get a video?
- refreshingmedia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Does anyone have a guide for revirginizing a sim unlocked iPhone? Not just another restore guide.
- refreshingmedia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1nevermind. I found this line on iphonegoboom.com
Note: Once you have carrier-unlocked the phone, you cannot "re-virginize" it to factory state. Do not believe anyone who tells you this is possible, or you will risk bricking your phone. - ec92009, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The best part about AppTapp on 1.1.1? You can hide the iTunes button if you don't like it :)
- Karmavs, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1These instructions have been leaked; both the iPod touch and iPhone Jailbreak are in private Betas (I doubt they'll last long) - The process s basically the same.
- shibbay, on 10/14/2007, -1/+1If the site goes down...mirror:
http://www.iphoneappr.com/ - Karmavs, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1The same process works for the iPod touch - and I'm sure you won't be in the minority for too long (they aren't even available here yet - mine's on pre-order)
- crossers, on 07/18/2008, -0/+0I think the title tells all. who interested in can use information!

http://www.pmidsig.org - kingkilr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Question: Does Jailbreaking+3rd Party apps prevent you from syncing your music with iTunes(I'm asking because I'm thinking about a Touch and want to have all the information).
- masskurec, on 03/03/2009, -0/+0iphone is bad
http://xptweak.net - EBFoxbat, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Well are you calling 1.1.1 a finished product or are you waiting for an SDK because the two are contradictions.
- zendegany, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0Wow, some people are gonna have a fun time doing this one.
- frederoil, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1huzzah! now you can use more useless apps on the iphone!
- MajorPaine, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1OK - I am as exited about this as anyone, but if you read the instructions, there is a very real, VERY big limitation on doing this... Only those people with an INTEL MAC can do the jailbreak for v1.1.1. (at least that is what the directions state).
