- Miamisun, on 08/18/2008, -3/+22Yep w/ 2.0.2 out today it is ironic that this made the front page cause it likely is already outdated
- frickinfreezing, on 08/18/2008, -6/+22sounds great. I'm in favour of anything that takes a bit of power away from apple and gives us users a chance to do what we want with the hardware.
- JazJon, on 08/18/2008, -1/+12apple firmware 2.0.2 is out today, I hope they update it to work with it soon.

- venuspcs, on 08/18/2008, -1/+8Apples and Oranges.....we are talking about iPhone/iPod as in a media/phone device with the power of a computer but restricted to the point where it is not usable as it should be......verses a computer with an operating system that allows you to do what you want, when you want (well for the most part).
In other words using an exploit to gain greater control of your own hardware (iPhone/iPod) is good, using an exploit to gain greater control of someone else's hardware (Windows Computer) is bad. - MrChunks, on 08/18/2008, -1/+8Where where?
- btschul, on 08/18/2008, -0/+6You must be new to the wonderful world of technology.
- serif69, on 08/18/2008, -1/+7There there.
- WiseWeasel, on 08/19/2008, -0/+5That's not ironic. Most people interested in jailbreaking know to wait before installing Apple's updates. I'm not upgrading from 2.0.1 until they jailbreak the new version.
- clancemasterj, on 08/18/2008, -1/+6Too bad apple just released another firmware update...
- Nosrac, on 08/19/2008, -0/+4Yep.
- WiseWeasel, on 08/19/2008, -0/+3Since Apple pulled NetShare, the tethering app, running a proxy server for tethering is one of the main reasons for jailbreaking, along with running an NES and other emulators, and random geek-oriented tasks. There are also some interesting apps to do things like Caller ID spoofing, voice changing and phone call recording, and other nifty capabilities Apple won't be allowing in the AppStore. It's not for everyone, but if you like to dig into your devices and see what makes them tick, or test the limits of their capabilities, then jailbreaking is the way to go. Otherwise, don't bother.
- ScottoGato, on 08/18/2008, -1/+4What what?
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -3/+6Here here!

- WiseWeasel, on 08/19/2008, -0/+2NES emulator, proxy apps to share your cell data connection with a computer now that NetShare is removed from the AppStore, along with themes and mods to customize beyond what Apple allows. There are many more apps coming, including random experimental apps that won't show up in the AppStore, but right now it's still fairly slim pickings as Apple changed a lot of APIs with the 2.0 firmware update, and it's taking some time for most unofficial iPhone developers to get up to speed and get their apps running again.
- colonels1020, on 08/19/2008, -0/+2GUI version is out.
http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/46475398/gui-versi ... - thinkdifferent, on 08/19/2008, -0/+2Have you seen the huge free section on the app store?
- kinseyincanada, on 08/18/2008, -0/+2can someone tell me if there is a really good reason to jailbreak and iPhone anymore, i dont know of any crazy apps that make it worth it, the only one i could think of is tethering which im assuming is a app you can get.
- dan0964, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1worked perfect for me
- sayssimon, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1WIN
- verkon, on 08/18/2008, -2/+3Just me finding it ironic that the program is only for windows at the time?

- oriondr, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1It just crashes for me.. then opens up a JIT debug window

- zeeky, on 08/18/2008, -1/+2WHOOOOOSH
- WiseWeasel, on 08/19/2008, -1/+2You probably need to install the latest .Net libraries from MS or something...
- Boofster, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1PWN HARDR!
- zzz@tkz, on 08/18/2008, -1/+1It's not risky at all, but the best app list is in the Cydia installer. Winterboard (themes), Poof (hide icons), and intelliscreen(a pay for app that puts recent texts &c. on the lock screen) are enough for me to re-jailbreak my phone.

- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -3/+3I think I understand the idea of the jailbreak , to run unauthorized applications.
I just got my iphone 3g yesterday and can anyone link to some unauth apps listings or some such thing so I can decide if it is worth the risk?
cant seem to google anything... - IllBeBack, on 08/19/2008, -2/+2Here here, in the butt.

- zzz@tkz, on 08/18/2008, -3/+1Because this is in the mobile OS X and not the desktop version?
- billbugger, on 08/18/2008, -3/+1For the guys out there that just can't take their time no matter how hard they try.
- JonyMill, on 08/18/2008, -3/+1I am so confused, what is that pic from? looks like a game called animal crossin
- d1a1s1, on 08/19/2008, -6/+1You must be new to the world of humor
- BenBenMan, on 08/18/2008, -11/+2Here's something I don't quite get, while on the topic of jailbreaking...
If there's a buffer-overflow or some other exploit in Mac OS X on the iPhone/iPod Touch that lets you run arbitary code as a privileged user, it's an excellent thing because it lets people run whatever they want on their device. If there's a buffer-overflow or some other exploit in Windows that lets you run arbitary code as a privileged user, it's a terrible failure at security on Microsoft's part, because it lets people run whatever they want on their device.
So, why the double-standard? - d1a1s1, on 08/18/2008, -14/+1Windows based only? *****'n Bill Gates....
