iPhone line forms at Apple's flagship for no reason
engadget.com — So word on the street (literally) is that a large number of people are queuing in line outside of Apple's flagship store on 5th Avenue in New York City -- keep in mind the Cube is open 24 hours a day. Our intrepid girl-on-the-scene reports that the group is more than 60-deep, though most people seem confused about what they're waiting for

Nice username by the way. Sort of encapsulates the whole apple fanboy thing nicely. Well done. - MacParrot, on 05/22/2008, -4/+3Thanks theWrkcacnter. I find it pretty much sums up the whole "angry digger" experience. They mostly are rather pointless individuals with little going on in their personal lives so they strike out with great vengeance hiding behind their little curtain of anonymity. I suppose it gives them a feeling of power that they will never otherwise see.
@alanr "Nice username by the way."
Hey thanks! Not many people see the connection between being a Mac user and a Jimmy Buffet fan. I bet you were the smartest kid on the short bus! - stevealford, on 05/22/2008, -3/+3It's actually "You are a sad, strange little man... and you have my pity."

- edwartica, on 05/22/2008, -7/+7I don't understand why people can say things like what you just said. I know you weren't serious, but honestly! Raining AIDS?!?!?!?! That is sociopathic thought!
- Solis, on 05/22/2008, -8/+2So? What's wrong with being a sociopath? I wish there were more of them.
- alanr19, on 05/22/2008, -2/+2If people were held responsible for their thoughts there would be very few left outside of the prison system. (Ever read Orwell?)

- alanr19, on 05/22/2008, -0/+3And as previously pointed out, the prank (if indeed it is one) is on the non-Improv people that are joining the queue. They have no idea why they are queuing, these people are called "fanboys".

Considering how many people got burned trying to flip the phones, I will just wait and walk into a store and buy on, one day. - ThreeDee912, on 05/23/2008, -1/+1It's more like random idiot tourists who are wondering what is in (more like under) the cube. That Apple store is in a high-tourism area. I've seen this happen a couple times already.

- MOJIRA, on 05/22/2008, -3/+13Lately maybe. But come now, Unbreakable and The Sixth Sense were awesome.
- bjornski, on 05/22/2008, -11/+9Unbreakable sucked ass.
"The 6th Sense" tripped me out pretty well tho.
It's the only movie of his I thought DIDN'T suck balls. - Buu700, on 05/22/2008, -2/+5I actually liked Unbreakable... then I saw the ending.
- jmahnn, on 05/22/2008, -1/+5I, for one, enjoyed Signs. Its the only contemporary movie that made me slightly scared, not like those ***** 'horror' flicks like The Ring and They, oh god don't get me started on They
- stevealford, on 05/22/2008, -7/+0That's probably the most accurate use of "for one" that I've ever seen... because of all the people I've ever known, talked to, or read comments written by, you are the ONLY one who enjoyed Signs.
- noonions, on 05/23/2008, -0/+4i loved signs.

- mikepictor, on 05/22/2008, -0/+2I love his work, some more than others, but Unbreakable rocked.
Signs was decent, though you have to realize what kind of movies it was
The Village was so-so, not horrid, but could have been stronger.
Lady in the water was decent.
The originals were the best though.

Dumb. - wdowell, on 05/22/2008, -16/+209I just find this so funny! It's a tragic statement of humankind in this over-excited consumer society! I hope it goes on for another few hours and the queues get ridiculous before somebody breaks it to them that's there is nothing
- charm803, on 05/22/2008, -4/+74As for myself, I was about to join the line....after all, everyone is doing it!
But unfortunately, I got stuck at a line at Starbucks.
I was just complaining about the ridiculously high gas prices...you know, almost $4 per gallon! But I finally got my $4 latte and now all is well......- mercury187, on 05/22/2008, -0/+154$ for a latte? I'm glad I dont drink that crap
- stevealford, on 05/22/2008, -1/+9You're just making that up to sound clever. We all know there isn't anything at Starbucks that costs less than $7. ;)

- ZenMojo, on 05/22/2008, -1/+2Apple felt guilty and offered them bolas for their iPod nanos. They all went home and told their friends, "***** you, man, you ***** missed out" in eerie, ear-deafening unison.

They need the most stupid and sheepish crowd to cater to.
Otherwise their marketing would never work!
You want to make bets that Apple or the Apple store hired 10 people to stand in line for no reason?
I bet if you did that at any given time with an Apple store, people would line up.
Hmmm, interesting test to try....

Is this just a false accusation supported by pictures of people waiting to register or sign in for the AIDS Walk, just to make us New Yorkers look bad?

- Takfam, on 05/22/2008, -7/+14I thought so at first, but isn't this really kind of beneath them? Starting a line for no reason is stoned college guy humor at best. It's on the same page as standing in a warehouse store with 3 or 4 people and looking up at the ceiling to get other shoppers to look for something that isn't there.
- bjornski, on 05/22/2008, -1/+2".....stoned college guy humor at best."

It may not be their usual level of ingenuity, but it says a thing or two. I wonder how many of the followers were on their phones checking their bank balance or calling friends to bring them cash.

Charlie Todd, founder of Improv Everywhere DENYING involvement in this.- phoomp, on 05/23/2008, -1/+7It's interesting how badly people want to believe it's organized by Improve Everywhere and not the bunch of lemmings it really is.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwMj3PJDxuo - darthweef, on 05/22/2008, -14/+8People do this because they crave attention. I would dare say that the majority of these people have no interest in an iPhone.. just attention- wynja, on 05/22/2008, -1/+3No, these people need the new iPhone like a junkie needs his next fix.

Lighten up. Jesus. - darthweef, on 05/22/2008, -1/+0I don't eat Wheaties... for the simple fear that someone might actually piss in them...
Sorry if my post came across angry, not intended, I just think that it displays a large amount of stupidity to stand in line for at least 19 days, to get an iPhone ... and since the article indicated that people were confused as to why they were standing in line, it tells me they are just there for attention... which is even more stupid. - gandhii, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1People who want attention are stupid. bleh!
- alaskanmacgeek, on 05/22/2008, -10/+14Wow. Everyone is off work today, and the best thing they could come up with is to stand in front of the Apple store for no specific reason. Smart.

Cant wait to see their faces when it finally dawns on them that the iPhone 2.0 is weeks away. Most of these dumb bastards don't even know why they're queuing. Blindly following a crowd. How exactly does that mesh with apple's "Think Different" slogan? Captures the apple fanboy syndrome perfectly.- dnields, on 05/22/2008, -4/+15"Proof if proof were needed that fanboys are the stupidest ***** on the planet."

- MortalynFlux, on 05/22/2008, -6/+2I made a bet with myself to see how many comments it would take on this Apple post for someone to throw in the word "fanboy." I was off by 2!

- MortalynFlux, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1Sure.
Must be the laws of Digg. If a post title has the word "Apple," there will be plenty of comments with the word "fanboy," each poster using it thinking they are clever and original. - Jb611, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1You don't get it do you?
- MortalynFlux, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2What I don't get is how people get on Digg, have debates on trivial matters, and then call themselves a "community."
Comments get dug up when you take a clear side. When you say something insightful, objective, or reveal the process you may be making to form an opinion on something, it gets dugg down.
This is clearly the macho ego. Draw a line in the sand, pick a side, and then fight. This does not make a cohesive community. It's nothing more than entertainment; an outlet for testosterone.
- MortalynFlux, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1Sure.

I prefer Cheerios myself as well, so we'll just let it go.
If you're going to be insulting, at least make the attempt to be original. To blindly vomit up comments with no originality really is rather pointless.
Posting on Digg should accomplish one of three things, being on topic and adding knowledge that the original article either didn't have or got wrong, being off topic but putting information or links in that while may not be pertinent to the subject at hand, but might help someone else understand the overall topic at large, or...being funny.
Your original comment failed at all three. Hope that helps! - skeletorcares, on 05/22/2008, -1/+6First off, welcome to digg, viaoman. And yeah, don't bother talking to macparrot, he's an autoblock. Unless you're living in a mountain, growing your own food, and making your own clothes, you're taking it in the ass from corporations every day.- bokep, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1Hey dumbass there's a line between necessities and ***** like iPhones, which only morons buy in the first place.
- nytejade, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2Of course there's a line, but who draws it? You? skinturtle? I'm sick of listening to whiny anti-corporation types who sit around perusing stories on Digg related to huge products coming from huge corporations.
I mean, wtf. If I was REALLY anti-corporation I wouldn't even bother coming to Digg or clicking on an iPhone related story. Hell, I wouldn't even own a computer. 90% of the stories submitted relate DIRECTLY to some huge company raking in millions of dollars every quarter for things that AREN'T necessities.
In reality, like skinturtle, you're a hypocrite who hides behind a keyboard pointing fingers because you can't accept the fact that you're just like the rest of us. A consumer.
I've known a good deal of people like you throughout my life, so let me give you a little piece of advice. We all buy ***** we don't need. For instance, you're using a computer, posting on Digg. LOTS of people don't own TV's, computers, etc, because they don't find them to be necessities. You probably own TONS of ***** which I find utterly useless (The Shins and Bob Dylan CD's, for example). I probably own tons of ***** YOU find utterly useless.
The idea is to stop being a judgmental prick, and let people enjoy their lives the way they see fit. I don't judge you because you don't take a shower, so please don't judge us because we like to play with toys made for grown ups.
