Should be interesting to see how they pull off Final Fantasy VII: iPhone Edition, since it's pretty much inevitable at this point. I expect that it, along with many other high-profile console RPGs, will end up as a D2-esque model of tap (click) where you want the character to go rather than an on-screen D-pad. Of course, it's no longer a relatively simple emulator port at that point, but I'm expecting WoW by the end of the month at the latest.
Won't this suffer from the iphone's inability to distinguish multiple presses at the same time (assuming the two finger zoom isn't possible to utilize)? Sure for some games clicking right to get your character moving then simply using 'a' or 'b' is enough but for the majority you need concurrent inputs. Not to rain on the parade, getting all this homebrew code to run on the iphone is no small feat and certainly very cool from an enthusiast point of view, but just because it runs doesn't mean it's usable.
I agree with the comment about the controls in that it looks good but sucks. I think a good idea would to model the controls like a GBA, with the D-pad on the left, buttons to the right, and the game playing in the middle.
Even if it runs it twice as fast as my 8800, it'll still be a pos. I got frustrated playing zelda on my phone AFTER I GOT THE WOODEN SWORD (thats like 5 seconds into the game for the one or two people that don't know). It was that bad. No Sound and it lagged like hell. Is this one any better?
This looks like it has potential. It's not there, yet.. multiple inputs would be nice.. sound would be good.. the controller at the bottom of the screen is sexy as all hell, though.
BFD... any phone/PDA with Windows Mobile can run NES and SNES emulators (as well as GBA and some others), and none of the owners are ***** their pants about it.
Yeah it would be fine until level 2 when the screen is too dirty to read what you are pressing clearly and you die because Mario wouldn't jump when you got close to a goomba... :(
