WTF? - brundlefly76, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I was at the large Apple store in White Plains tonight at 8 pm - not only did I not have a problem getting in the store (no line, store not that busy), but I had no problems getting my hands on a demo phone - actually two.
There was man-on-man sales coverage and the sales person 'helping' me said they still had 'PLENTY of inventory'! (sales guy was great though) He was more than happy to explain the checkout process.
The reviews have been spot on - the keyboard is definitely much better then I thought (a '.com' key - genius!), the hardware and display are sexy as hell, and the screen is just gorgeous, plus the OS is extremely intuitive and unbelievably responsive.
However, the network problem JUST. KILLS. IT. (well if you are like me and was most excited about the browser)
I had the sales person put it on wifi and edge, and both sucked with the browser! 20s+ to load NYT over wifi, 60s+ to load CNN over EDGE.
Better experience using the proxy-assisted Opera Mobile 4 over EVDO, no matter how much I miss the iPhone screen.
I think the problem is that the browser is just too complex for the processor to get good performance - either that or I just had a random bad experience - but I;m glad because now I definitely do not want one because of the network, so I dont have to wish-wash anymore. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@crashingechelon
i can also vouch for this, my dickbag unemployed roommate slept on the street last night to get an iphone today. the prints get there, but theyre a non-issue an issue when its on, not visible at all. - anonym41414, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It takes up to six hours to transfer a number. In the meantime, you can MAKE calls. You just can't RECEIVE calls.
