- Yousty, on 03/17/2009, -51/+378Sweet, one less thing for anti-iPhone users to complain about.
- digjam, on 03/17/2009, -22/+252and HAS MMS TOOO....WTF?? THIS IS LIKE JACKPOT FOR IPHONE USERS!
- Radan, on 03/17/2009, -5/+156The iPhone now also got MMS, tethering, widescreen keyboards, OS wide search, push, exchange support, bonjour with p2p support, stereo bluetooth, support for turn by turn navigation and international keyboards.
Looks like Apple really checked off that to do list this time. - judicar, on 03/17/2009, -10/+156Whatever, my _______ ____ has been able to copy/paste for the last __ (centuries|years|months).
Thought I would save the next 200 commenters some typing. - herrshuster, on 03/17/2009, -10/+154Oceanic flight 815 - nice
- austenw, on 03/17/2009, -25/+157It's fascinating that the coolest phone to hit the mobile phone market ever, gets damn near everything anyone could ever ask for and people complain that it doesn't have flash? Really? If that's all you can find to complain about, then I think Apple's doing pretty good.
Also, I love my iPhone more than ever before now! - Rolamoto, on 03/17/2009, -14/+134It's about time
- darkism, on 03/17/2009, -28/+139This is a good thing, if only because it obliterates the rallying cry of the anti-iPhone crowd.
- digjam, on 03/17/2009, -9/+108Shake to undo is more exciting than COPY & PASTE :D
- bilbohicks, on 03/17/2009, -1/+66Unfortunately, I'd have to copy/paste your template for it to be a time-saver. I'm on an iPhone..
- DBSABZB, on 03/17/2009, -6/+71I can't wait to update my phone and use this stuff!
What's that you say? Available this summer? Oh....OK then. - NyteStarNyne, on 03/17/2009, -16/+74/Obligatory post complaining about missing feature
NO FLASH SUPPORT?!?!?! - Yousty, on 03/17/2009, -2/+54Wrong. They just announced it!
- inactive, on 03/17/2009, -6/+57http://www.gapingvoid.com/11444661477.jpg
- ssj2119, on 03/17/2009, -3/+48not if you drop your phone
- Daniel591992, on 03/17/2009, -10/+54... and only $9.95 for iPod Touch users! *sigh*
- Qumahlin, on 03/17/2009, -8/+50God, name one other mobile device that supports full flash that doesn't have absolutely ***** battery life while using it?
Flash is a pig, always has been and always will be, it needs to die. Just watch how much processor time a flash video can eat up and thats on a dual core 3ghz CPU, now imagine that same processor time being utilized on a small device with limited battery and a limited processor.
Adobe needs to make vast adjustments to the implementation of flash in order for it to ever be viable in the mobile market. The most they did currently was come up with "Flash Lite" which may as well be called "Flash Useless" since it only supports a small handful of flash functions - timusca, on 03/17/2009, -5/+40Better late than never... people bitch that it isn't there, and then they finally add it, and people bitch some more.
- orthodoxDrew, on 03/17/2009, -2/+37it's about ****** time
- justinsail, on 03/17/2009, -6/+37Yee f**ing haw. Now I don't have to roll my eyes and agree with blackberry people when they say that the iPhone lacks core features... and universal search is now in there too!
- kiantech, on 03/17/2009, -0/+30your wish came true!
- PixelD, on 03/17/2009, -0/+29Not if you're like me and still have a 2G iPhone. Looks like MMS and stereo bluetooth are only coming to 3G iPhones.
"Jason Chen:
Q: Is there a physical hardware problem on the first-gen iPhone that prevents it from doing MMS.
A: It’s a different radio, so it is a physical issue." - AceyS, on 03/17/2009, -0/+28Lots of buttons and can record video but no other features?
- trogdor1231, on 03/17/2009, -9/+37Where can I buy an anti-iphone?
- r3zonance, on 03/17/2009, -6/+33Yes and I can remember from my N95 owning days, it was such a nice easy to use phone all round. The Cut-Paste was lovely too...not!
N95 is by no means an outstanding example of a good phone. My spent most of its time rebooting to watch video clips because I'd run out of memory (even straight after a reboot).
I spent most of my time fighting against the device, waiting for the menus to clunkily scroll. The UI was just *****. - ivbaseball06, on 03/17/2009, -2/+26dugg for Lost reference
- Zervaman, on 03/17/2009, -7/+31Better late than never...
- wilhoitm, on 03/17/2009, -9/+32It just got about 1000 other new features too! 3.0 is a killer!
- inactive, on 03/17/2009, -3/+25No, you're misunderstanding how SwirlyMMS works completely is all. It doesn't work like the typical MMS does over the radio, it's a work around that uses the EDGE connection.
- Tddupre, on 03/17/2009, -0/+2211:39AM Q: Where do you stand on tethering?
A: Scott (explains tethering): We're supporting tethering in the client side, we're building that support in. We're working with our carriers around the world. We are building that support in. - TVarmy, on 03/17/2009, -5/+27Apple, you're doing it all wrong! You're supposed to only add one or two of those features to the next generation, so I have a good excuse to hold off indefinitely for the "next version that will be better!" Now, I really want a phone with a service plan I can't afford to pay for!
- takua108, on 03/17/2009, -22/+42I'll be damned if this doesn't get 5000+ diggs.
- McSwankypants, on 03/17/2009, -2/+22Or download the IPSW file by any means you see fit, hold down Shift+restore in iTunes (or Option+restore on the Mac)...voila! "free" upgrade.
- inactive, on 03/17/2009, -7/+27No, if you had any idea how Swirly MMS worked you'd realize that it's just a work-around and not true MMS. It was a workaround that violated AT&T's restrictions, which is why it was shut down.
The 1st gen iPhone hardware can handle SMS, which just sneaks in data over call transmissions - but it could not handle MMS which uses a different method completely and requires a different radio.
I've been saying this for nearly a year now when people have complained about not having MMS on their iPhone. Take two seconds to look into the radio hardware and it'll be apparent. - PhoenixAvatar2, on 03/17/2009, -0/+20It does have AD2P and what's wrong with the screen?
- inactive, on 03/17/2009, -1/+21Way to quote someone who DIDN'T ask the question.
Also, swirly MMS didn't use existing MMS networks, it was just a workaround using the EDGE connection. - inactive, on 03/17/2009, -4/+23There are security issues: whenever you allow something to be interchangeable across different applications there are security issues.
- joshspy, on 03/17/2009, -3/+22now just get rid of AT&T
- kiantech, on 03/17/2009, -2/+20I do. I needed it yesterday actually.
- nipterink, on 03/17/2009, -1/+19aka JACKPOT
- emoment, on 03/17/2009, -0/+18Clippy?
- NHeerDesign, on 03/17/2009, -1/+19Wrong – they just announced that the iPhone 3.0 update will support tethering, but it's up to the carriers to allow it.
- VeggieOil, on 03/17/2009, -2/+19OK yea I was wrong they just announced it. I am officially in love with the iphone now. all of its flaws are fixed.
- eleven, on 03/17/2009, -0/+16doesn't actually "undo" it brings up the "undo" panel. But yeah if you drop it you'll need some type of H/W undo.
- inactive, on 03/17/2009, -6/+22Yeah, just because you don't pay a $40+ bill every month for at least two years you have to pay $10 ONCE for a considerably sized software update containing features you KNEW the device didn't have when you shelled out for it originally - cry me a ***** river.
- Qumahlin, on 03/17/2009, -13/+28they lie, swirly mms worked fine on 2g phones. This is a money grab plain as day.
That is unless apple wants to claim some guy on the internet can develop better software for their phones then they can. - Tddupre, on 03/17/2009, -1/+16FTA:
"So, Spotlight. A single place to search across your phone. And again, these are only a few of the new features that come with 3.0. Like Note Sync, you can sync your notes." Auto-fill, YouTube accounts, stereo Bluetooth! WiFi autologin, anti-phising. - r00fus, on 03/17/2009, -6/+21and btw, ***** flash video. The new "flash" will be HTML v5 supported video (which AFAIK, is what the iPhone is using, pre-draft standard).
Flash navigation for websites is so 1990s. CSS 3/jQuery/XHTML can do most of that already. - buddyw, on 03/17/2009, -5/+20The iPhone is awesome, but it isn't the be-all-end-all. There are legitimate uses for background processes.
My main issue with Apple is the ridiculous policies they use to approve software. - yabos, on 03/17/2009, -4/+18Who gives a *****. iPhone 3.0 supporting MMS now.
