oh no wait - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -8/+90Oh no! I bet someone wrote a 3rd party app and took down the whole edge network just like Steve Jobs said would happen!!!
- TomFrost, on 10/11/2007, -1/+75Dugg for having a girlfriend who uses the highest possible data plan!
- ablez3, on 10/11/2007, -7/+68dugg for having a girlfriend
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -53/+112Hahahhahahah. The iPhone release is gonna be a text book example of how NOT to do a phone release.
- mlock2k, on 10/11/2007, -8/+65why did they pick AT&T ?
- betobeto, on 10/11/2007, -15/+59"It just works"
...when it feels like it - JonRick, on 10/11/2007, -1/+45I live in San Diego, Ca and it's down. Not just for iPhone users either. Both my girlfriend and I who have the highest possible data plans for our phones (Nokia 6682 and HTC Wizard) can't connect either.
- hemanrulez, on 10/11/2007, -6/+49Edge isnt working for me here in Seattle,WA all day today. Multiple reports of it not working just on the iPhone in other markets as well.
Other edge devices work on ATT though, so its just the iPhone which is not working - hemanrulez, on 10/11/2007, -10/+50I bet Apple is rethinking their "5 year exclusive" deal with ATT. I wish they had done the deal with T-mobile or allowed us to use the phone on T-mobile. 3 days of being an ATT customer and I already regret it.
- philfro, on 10/11/2007, -4/+39An AT&T Technical service rep quoted an ETR of 4PM PST, after which customers could call for a service credit.
What a load of *****. They should just issue the service credit to anyone with a data plan. - masterc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+27Nobody cares
Sent from my computer - tconrad, on 10/11/2007, -4/+28Not working in Oakland, CA. It's been down since around 10AM pacific here.
- locojones, on 10/11/2007, -4/+28We tried to warn you.
- skellener, on 10/11/2007, -14/+36> iPhone edge down nationwide
Now that's funny!!!! - underthelinux, on 10/11/2007, -7/+28pfft please, with all the crap that i've had to endure re: the iPhone, i think smug douchebagery is entirely appropriate.
- Annon, on 10/11/2007, -2/+23No, this is the famous AT&T experience.
- neal16, on 10/11/2007, -4/+23also down in oklahoma city...
using an iphone - natmlt, on 10/11/2007, -4/+20Can't connect in Phoenix right now either.
- RAiNsTorm, on 10/11/2007, -9/+25And now we begin to see what was the most glossed over fact of all with the iPhone... the service. Without the service it is a pretty little thing that can call 911, since Apple chose to totally cripple it when not in a service contract. That phone could do anything, and at the end of the day it is dependent on AT&T, not Apple. Before this whole iPhone debacle, very few people would have rated AT&T very high, but everyone chose to turn a blind eye for the Jesus Phone. When it comes to consumer electronics, people fall for the same stuff every time.
- laserob, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18Down: Valencia, CA
- liuping, on 10/11/2007, -4/+19Down in Carlsbad, CA (North San Diego County) as well.
- mudsown, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17"I can't believe you like money too. We should hang out. "
Idiocracy :) - dustboo, on 10/11/2007, -4/+19Down in Tri-Cities, WA. Suffering withdrawals? Yes.
- Ragnar0k, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Yes, but, they KNEW, from all the hubub and shipments, how much load will be applied to the network. In fact, as more iPhones are sold, it'll be an even larger load. With months of forewarning this should not have happened, AT&T just failed at delivering the network that it promised.
Your telco monopolies scare me.
-Rag - thecompkid, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15Hey, guys, you can call at&t and request a service credit. Do it, seriously. Sorry for the comment abuse, but I would take advantage of any opportunity to ***** up at&t.
- oyster, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Someone above asked why there's so much hate for Apple. Here's why...
Its quite simple, actually. It bothers some folks that Apple continually makes products that people like to use. It bothers PC technoweenies that Apple makes computers that aren't upgradeable in every imaginable way, and yet, people still buy them and love them. It bothers phoneweenies that Apple came into the phone game with a v1.0 product that it more beautiful and perception-altering than anything anyone else has ever made...EVER. Apple made a phone nationwide news. Anyone see any articles about the new Blackberry? Or that Windows Mobile had been upgraded? NOPE. Because nobody cares. And even worse, almost every complaint they could possibly lodge against the iPhone is easily remedied with a simple software update. And audiophiles hate the iPod as they do all digital devices...because on some audio measuring device somewhere, the iPod delivers inferior sound to a fully analog tube-driven setup and vinyl albums.
But mostly its that regardless of the hate and venom, Apple still succeeds. People still flock to Apple stores. People still love OS X. Apple still makes money hand over fist. And no matter how many blogs are written...no matter how many posts are in no matter how many forums...Apple just keeps winning. And people just hate it. They hate that their words are meaningless and their feelings are thoroughly ignored by the world at large. Its like acid in the mouth. Guess what iPod bashing, Windows loving, iPhone smashing, Apple haters...
Nobody cares what you have to say. Why don't you go scan your hard drive for spyware? I've got work to do. - osko2052, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12T-Mobile is # 1 in Customer Satisfaction according to JD Power and Associates. Over half the people I know with cell phone plans have T-Mobile for a carrier. The other half spend their time bitching about Verizon, AT & T and US Cellular.
- cawpin, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15Well, when you're T-Mobile and have about 5 subscribers your network isn't ever under high load.
- mouthster, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12Down in San Diego, south county , its not just for iphones, I can't get data on my Blackjack using EDGE or 3G
- Keropipi, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12Down in Bellevue, WA as well.
- Keropipi, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12Spoke with a CSR and he confirmed that AT&T's GPRS/EDGE has been down since 9:56am in Washington State
- minastirth, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Because Verizon was stupid enough to refuse.
- TinMan, on 10/11/2007, -6/+14Fine here in Weasel Pecker Arkansas
- AngelDragon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I was online by the pool, trying to load some quicktime videos of Keyra pulling down her thong when I pressed reload several times by mistake (was trying to zoom in) and then the network went down. I thought it was just my browser, I just checked the news.
Basically, it was me who crashed the network nation wide, I'm terribly sorry. I just wanted to see her culo, thats all. - gweedo767, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Sure, since everyone else is off the network ;)
- jjustin01, on 10/11/2007, -15/+22My Blackjack, on the 3G network, works perfectly. Sucks to be on EDGE I guess.
- lateralus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Does this make you sleepless?
- DrDabbles, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8You make the assumption 500K were actually SOLD versus shipped to stores. Most, if not all, stores still have stock.
- msaleem, on 10/11/2007, -6/+13Slow but working in Chicago. Posting from iPhone over edge.
- jhop, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11Uhhhhh, this has absolutely nothing to do with the iPhone. Probably just in the title to get front page. EDGE is EDGE. Who cares what device you're trying to use it with. I'm in Seattle and EDGE is down for my W810i. Should I digg another story about SonyEricsson EDGE being down?
- jtizzle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6because at&t was the only provider to open up and give apple free reign to overhaul the end-user phone experience.
- TomFrost, on 10/11/2007, -6/+11This isn't the iPhone. This is AT&T. And while the service could be a hell of a lot better, they were the only provider willing to give Apple the huge freedoms they got to transform the phone buying experience. I love my iPhone, but the provider.. whatcha gonna do?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6That is how it would be with any other product, but this is an apple product. Expect the apple press release soon that spins this as some double plus goodness any moment now.
- z3rr0, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Watching AT&T scramble to fix broken ***** on their network? :-D
- betobeto, on 10/11/2007, -6/+11"It just works"
(...when it feels like it) - Vanadium, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8I haven't been able to connect from Boulder, CO all morning. There was a short spurt of it working about an hour ago for about 10 minutes, but that quickly went away. This is confirmed from 2 separate iPhone users.
- Jerkpie, on 03/03/2009, -2/+6No Edge in Bakersfield, CA.
To add, 3G isn't working on my Cingular 8525 either. - TXCraig, on 10/11/2007, -5/+9Not good for Apple... I have had a line of people in my office all day to see it work.. and its down.. Is at&t like this all the time? A nataional outage does not make sinc
- ilgaz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5It is sort of Karma, Mr. Jobs claimed 3rd party apps would DOWN network (NY Times) and this happens.
Collective karma, millions of Java, C etc. developers out there. -
