- atariby, on 10/17/2007, -1/+31That has to be the worst description I've ever wrote..
- user7, on 10/17/2007, -0/+17do you mean "You read it right"? or did I read that write?
- inactive, on 10/17/2007, -0/+13Maybe that's because you didn't read it write.
- habu, on 10/17/2007, -0/+8http://www.apple.com/hotnews/ Right now it is the first story on Apple's HotNews page.
- zackkitzmiller, on 10/31/2007, -1/+8everyone hates you because of your signature
- TomFrost, on 10/17/2007, -0/+3Cripes, this is the third article about this to frontpage in the past 20 minutes. Look at the top stories before digging :)

http://digg.com/apple/CONFIRMED_Real_iPhone_SDK_in ... - nunofgs, on 10/17/2007, -1/+4Hmm, it seems the software will have to be digitally signed in order to be executed.
They mention only "known developers" will be able to have these signatures. I'm assuming you'll have to submit your software to Apple for review and, if they approve, they will give you a signature.
In other words, developers will only be able to create apps (read: no access to the hard-drive), so no hacks for Springboard, etc.
Of course people will find a way around this so I guess it will be the same cat-and-mouse game. - drlha, on 10/17/2007, -0/+3Jobs mentions digital signatures used for Nokia phones, which is a hint that iPod may require it, but that is far from the new saying that "the software will have to be digitally signed in order to be executed". Lets not jump to conclusions until we actually have the facts in hand shall we?
- dtreichler, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2Yeah, you're totally rocking the English language today.
- atariby, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2I sure did
- usrlocalbin, on 10/17/2007, -1/+3Dupe, of a dupe, of a dupe.
Buried as a dupe. - theskyman, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2DIGG do we really need 3 stories about the same topic on the home page NO NO NO!!!!!!
- TomFrost, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2*written ;-)
- kajoob, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2From his Steveness:
"Some claim that viruses and malware are not a problem on mobile phones—this is simply not true. There have been serious viruses on other mobile phones already, including some that silently spread from phone to phone over the cell network. As our phones become more powerful, these malicious programs will become more dangerous. And since the iPhone is the most advanced phone ever, it will be a highly visible target."
I thought the iphone ran OSX (albeit a stripped down version, but OSX none the less). I thought OSX was impervious to viruses. In fact, Apple makes it so that when you search on their site for "virus" the results come back as "windows". See here:

I detect a little chicanery going on here. - bhattsan, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2I think digg has just imploded.
- gridman, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2Look on the bright side, you could have written, "You red it write."
- h3smith, on 10/17/2007, -1/+2Next people will bitch the SDK isn't "open enough" for them.
- indiekiduk, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1can you read and right?
- HalfGiraffe, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1You write it red.
- vofuse, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1That means you're sure to make the front page.
- carrera594, on 10/17/2007, -1/+2hmm, seems to me that this is the thrid time i have seen this post. And seriously "WTF kinda description is that". do i need to punt you in the balls?
- noahhoward, on 10/17/2007, -1/+2There are three copies of this story on the front page right now. Stop digging dupes.
- jackgivens, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1I suspect atariby thinks it is deception for Apple to now claim "We want native third party applications on the iPhone". I suspect Apple figured out people really will look to Nokia and other phones because of the Stalinist tactics.
- ST0N3, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1bravo apple.
- badjoke, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1This business strategy is very transparent. They create something closed (or high priced), everyone complains. Then apple opens it (or drops the price) and every sings Apple's graces.
- fittysix, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1Interestingly the description of the story is more interesting than the story. Because of the "write" in there I read the description as 'reed' instead of 'red', funny how your mind works. I can only assume that the subconscious mind looked ahead to determine how I should interpret read.
- NJank, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1you could have just written: "hey, you've seen this 3 times today, but here's another one. and I don't even bother sending you right (or write) to the source!!!! "
blogspammy dupe de dupe de dupe - campo, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1or perhaps it's the worst description you've ever written...
- plbland, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1"Some companies are already taking action. Nokia, for example, is not allowing any applications to be loaded onto some of their newest phones unless they have a digital signature that can be traced back to a known developer. While this makes such a phone less than “totally open,”"
Couldn't resist the Nokia dig(g) then? - NJank, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1just changes the focus of the hack.
- PirateFSM, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1I hear there's an iPhone and iPod Touch SDK coming out in February. You red it write!
- blackjack75, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1I guess it will be like Symbian on Nokia Series 3rd ... you'll have to pay a Verisign Digital Signature... 400$ a year, in order ot be ab le to sign your app. A bit frustrating for freeware devs.
- gmarsch, on 10/17/2007, -1/+1If only the poster could write it "write".
- starkruzr, on 10/17/2007, -0/+0Do you know something about it we don't?
What if it isn't available to anyone who isn't a multi-million-dollar software development house? That would be hardly any improvement at all. I'm sure YOU'LL enjoy paying Apple $40 for dirt-basic software functionality, but I won't. - patokeefe1, on 10/17/2007, -1/+1Thanks to all the iPhone Developers for proving that the experience can be enhanced. If the community didn't push for this, it wouldn't have happened...so thanks.
- user7, on 10/17/2007, -1/+1haha, it happens
- mightytribble, on 10/18/2007, -1/+1Seems like a good conclusion to me. "Nokia, for example, is not allowing any applications to be loaded onto some of their newest phones unless they have a digital signature that can be traced back to a known developer." That sounds like the only way Apple could make an SDK available to individual developers without being the gatekeeper for every application installed on an iPhone.
It also means that if you write code Apple doesn't like (say, wireless music sharing), Apple knows where you live. - _skin_, on 10/17/2007, -1/+1Like so totally.
- Quaterni0n, on 10/17/2007, -1/+1Hey! Lets submit more iPhone/iTouch SDK articles. There are only 3 of them on the home page.
- inactive, on 10/17/2007, -2/+1Buried for not knowing how to write a ***** proper sentence.
- Perfectsound, on 10/17/2007, -3/+2Do we need three ***** stories about this?
- inactive, on 10/17/2007, -2/+1Buried for stupidity.
- mgkwho, on 10/17/2007, -8/+3If only they announced their computers in advance...oh, woe are those who purchase blindly. That is life in the technology lane.
