- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+69i would love to see an update by the same guy every day for a week or so to see how he feels about it.
- Loyaleagle, on 10/11/2007, -8/+51I'll be honest, that guy didn't look like he was used to QWERTY, not just touch screen. Let's get somebody on that thing that has a Blackberry thumb already.
- motherwell, on 10/11/2007, -7/+45After using my iPhone for 30 minutes I am having very little trouble typing. Obviously I am not typing the wpm I get with a normal keyboard, but I am very happy with the iPhone.
- borninda818, on 10/11/2007, -4/+42couldn't he just turn it sideways and all the keys would get bigger? or is that just with like browsing and stuff.
- sean9812, on 10/11/2007, -8/+34I camn telll that my fayt fingetrs would never bwe able tio tyope on that trhing
- wjackson, on 10/11/2007, -4/+29You're supposed to type with a single finger when you first get the device, per the video on the Apple website. This video is painful to watch...I want to rip it from him and show him how to do it.
Maybe I just want to rip it from him. - Kypt, on 10/11/2007, -1/+21"We’re sorry, but your fingers are too fat to dial. If you should need a dialing wand, mash the keypad now."
- pkfx, on 10/11/2007, -4/+22Unfortunately, you can only use it sideways when you're watching movies, looking at pictures, looking through your music (coverflow), or browsing the internet. For some reason, the keyboard doesn't get bigger when you turn it sideways.
- mirzar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17you get better at - for example when i got my pocket pc, it used to take quite a while to type in a url but now it takes almost no time
- dvgraphics, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15I'll admit, it's a bit of a shock the first time you use it- but like everyone keeps saying, if you 'trust' the system, it actually works. I've never used a 'smartphone' keyboard of any sort prior to today, but I'm not having too hard of a time with the iPhone. I swore to myself I wasn't going to record any pointless iPhone videos, but I really wanted to show that typing isn't all that hard: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsUmC8klYk8
- Rejun, on 10/11/2007, -5/+16Ahem, Finger Condoms.
- epyon180, on 10/11/2007, -7/+16I have been typing with my iPhone since I opened it and I must say that it does improve a LOT over a short period of time. I am not yet as fast as my previous phone ( which I have had for a year) but I am close. The best advice I can give is to just trust the software. it will correct 95% of mistakes for you. And DON'T start typing with two thumbs, wait till you are pretty good with one finger. I must say that it isn't so much that I am improving ( though I am) as it is the software getting smarter and smarter.
- omarciddo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10I think it would've been better if it were landscape-oriented when you texted; there'd be a little more room for slightly larger keys. I don't have one of these so I'm just speculating.
- lindseylu, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Yeah, well... when you have fat fingers, what are you going to do?
- randomgeek, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Oh *****, I dugg you down by mistake. Someone digg him back up. :(
Digg should let you fix a mis-digg like reddit does. - EgyptianVicker, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8Really it is not that hard people... get your thumbs together...
iPlayed with one, it is not that hard at all. - Boondoggle, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9You should post this complaint in the "complaints_nobody_wants_to_hear" section.
- LoganT, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Sorry, it made two comments. Digg this down.
- superkendall, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5The keyboard does get bigger when using the browser and entering form elements. The larger keyboard is nice but the smaller keyboard is very manageable. One thing the reviews didn't seem to mention is that the hit detection is very, very accurate - I can hit buttons on form elements just a few pixels in size pretty easily.
- zdiggler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4using the thrumb to type is probably more comfortable in long term, Any hand held device like Cell Phone, BB we all use thumbs to dial and type.
Using the thumb is best way, to use Index Fingers its requires two hands. - pkfx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Not to mention the 10% restocking fee.
- nickab, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I wish I could try typing. I've been waiting since 6:45 for activation to succeed. In the mean time I can't do a thing with it. I'm porting my number from Verizon, but still, this is just ridiculous and terribly disappointing.
- miles32, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5shameless bury
- neocitron, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4the guy looks inexperienced with touch screens in general... most people who use a pocket PC or a blackberry, or any device with a mini keyboard should only take about a day to adjust i assume...
Also, common logic applies, use the smallest surface area of your fingers, when you press at a right angle to the screen you get less surface area and more visible precision as to where your contact point is....
Anybody who can work a touch screen display knows that the angle of contact of your finger greatly affects how the touch sensor reacts. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Thanks for the video, this is more of what i wanted to see; someone who actually had some skill typing on a mobile device instead of that gizmondo guy...
- toolegittoquit, on 10/11/2007, -11/+14That looks difficult. Product idea! Foam rubber iThimbles.
- prockcore, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Except he's not holding the iphone, and it's not laying flat.. it's on a special rig.
- Arcosign, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2With the number so visible, I decided to text him too!
- MixMastaKooz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I just typed that comment on my iPhone: it doesn't work well with digg's comment system...it freaks out and it took me forever to right it because it was stuck in backspace or space. It was easy to do a slashdot post though...the typing is fine: it's the webpage's complexity that might be an issue with the typing messages/post from an iPhone
- Chrelion, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2This is probably going to sound odd, but is there anyway to change the keyboard to Dvorak? Qwerty feels very unnatural to me these days.
- SCARECR0W, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I've heard several people say the same thing.. and they all s seem to be Verizon customers... is this Verizon's way of marring the iPhone launch?
- Sc0rian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2yeah i agree... he looks like he has it sorted
- chourobin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Just got to use ur thumb tips and ull be fine... I typed faster than my friend using his blackberry curve, and it transitions from numbers to letters quickly with little confusion. Its amazing.
- sxtxixtxcxh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1good going trusting your own typing on that 'flicker'...
- LoganT, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That's cute guys.
- junskey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i just used my friend iphone earlier while i was high and typing was a sinch...
- superkendall, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I don't understand why anyone is waiting. I had to port my number from T-Mobile, but even though my number was not ported I was still able to activate the phone, and make outgoing calls and play with it all I liked.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2But buying online has a two week wait
- sxtxixtxcxh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1from what i've read, you should double check your account numbers w/verizon and report that back to at&t
- johnbellone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Wait for the iPhone Fat Fingered Edition.
- superkendall, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The video made it look lke he had only picked it up that second, not the "first day after use" at all. I'd swear it was taken in a store.
- MixMastaKooz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I agree with Superkendall. It is very accurate, but as I said above, it had a hard time with a complicated page such as digg's and I found a glitch when I tried to enter in a comment (it kept on backspacing on me which really sucked). On slashdot, this wasn't a problem.
- Dotdotdot, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I thought you were not supposed to use two thumbs until you got used to the keys or something
- MixMastaKooz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1On big paagess its a bitch
- Aereo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I've been using a Treo 650 for about a year straight, and have had little to no trouble at all switching over to the iPhone keyboard.
Hell, dare I say, the iPhone is easier. - DrawingTheSun, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@muisc guru person
There is big difference between the iPhone and the PS3, for example Sony kept ***** over its customers all the time, and has done a bad job getting the PS3 out on time. the iPhone is completely different, apple has been a very nice company that likes its customers
Oh and is that a website you have there? no one wants to see your stupid website, i can't understand how people come on here and think that they can just do this stuff with nasty people like me digging you down - Kypt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1May not correct stupidity but will correct poor dexterity as long as it isn't TOO poor..
- revital9, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1More iPhone reviews, including the one Apple doesn't want you to see:
http://www.hooqs.com/iphone---reviews-and-opinions/17021,19417 - dvgraphics, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This is true, though bookmarks solve a lot of those problems.
Also, the iPhone does know 'web lingo' like 'LOL'. - superkendall, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The iPhone also learns words you consider acceptible, I think automatically adding them to the dictionary. So over time common web words are known.
But as time does on you get more accurate so even if you aren't "trusting" anything, you can start to get quite accurate results if you just slow down a little on the trickier words. -
