- hydr, on 10/10/2007, -6/+33I can confirm that this is real. Many people have now started using this in France, UK, Germany, Macedonia, etc. It's a simemu proxy hack, that enables you to merge two sims, and bypass the iPhones security check. We are very close to a full softmod hack as well.
- 10goto10, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21European: check!
Unused SIM card: check!
***** of money: ... damn - risotto, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12This is not an iPhone hack, it's a SIM hack! The title of the post is misleading because no European SIM card will ever function with this method that has been issued after 2002! You need a Comp128-1 SIM card which have been recalled all over the place. Sorry guys, but the hack will not work for common European SIMs.
- hydr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Might add: Everything works! Even edge internet via a norwegian carrier! Best news of the day!
- perozo, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12I can smell the ***** coming through my router.
- robdiggity, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Even if voice and SMS are shown to function on another carrier's network, I sincerely doubt VVMail will function on another network.
- digggggg, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8There is more info @ hackint0sh.org. Several people confirm it. Remaining problem: cellphone company might detect you've tampered with the SIM and think you've stolen somebody's credentials -> might be illegal depending on jurisdiction. Wait a few days and somebody will now likely find the unlock key algorithm, then it's foolproof and safer. But if you're of the adventurous type, the iPhone can now be used in any GSM country. Joy! :-)
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Actually, it's European SIM hacked and used with iPhone.
- Chakat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Sorta like how there's a Mexico and a New Mexico, right?
- xerodeth, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8USA now recognizes Macedonia as the original Macedonia. This is something George W Bush did after he got re-elected.
- moofer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Post a video and how how well the voicemail (doesn't) work. That's proprietary to the phone and AT&T's service.
- DagMX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4GSM. The iPhone is a quadband GSM phone.
- Stevethegreat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3No you don't get it, we are called Hellenes and our country is called Hellas. We don't demand you to call us as such, you can call us Greeks as much as you like, if this is how you call Hellenes in your language. The problem is not how you call us, the problem how a foreign country calls itself. For example if Mexico was renamed to United States of America and claimed that Jefferson was Mexican and only cared for the future of Mexico which must be called USA then there would be an outrage, especially if it was done out of the blue. Macedonians of FYROM where called Yugoslavians up until 1991 but from that time onwards they started calling themselves Macedonians, there is no problem that they changed their nationality's name (we don't care) the problem is that they replaced it with a foreign one.
Names should not trademarked, as much as single letters but come on they can't have called them Macedonians just because they thought it as a nice name, they did so, so that they gain a respected background. Again I'm not against a country striving to find an ethnic identity, the only problem is that if they are the real Macedonians then WE lose our ethnic identity and don't get me started with that -we Greeks- have Athens, Sparta and other places as identity, we (the northerns) were never like Athenians or Spartans, in fact we were always very different, even in the antiquity, we're proud of our name because it gives us an identity different than of the rest of the Greeks, it's also historically supported so we don't have real worries about that.
I know I'm being passed as a nationalist crackpot, but things are a lot more complex if you live in a given area than if you view things from outside. Also do not think, even for a second, that I believe that contemporary Greeks have any cultural heritage from the Ancient ones, but they sure as hell have a blood heritage and no history book can change that, *****, my family and I, even look like Macedonians, we live in the country of brunets and brunettes and we are fair skinned, fair haired, and green-eyed people EXACTLY like the ancient Macedonians (in opposition with Ancient Greeks, or Ottoman Turks that lived here from 15th ce to 19th ce) - mikev, on 10/11/2007, -9/+12macedonia? you mean FYROM. (macedonia is in greece...)
- Stevethegreat, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Because we all know that Mr Bush can assign what is named what in an area with thousand years of history. Peculiar I'm living a little kilometers outside the old Makedonian capital (I can even read the words of the old written in the place, like they were written yesterday), I'm speaking Greek, I AM Greek and yet again I can't be called Makedonian because some Slav populace (no offense meant) happened to live on the northern part of the province?
- Chakat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Don't pay him too much mind. He's still clinging to the notion that Apple's lockin with ATT was a good idea.
- Stevethegreat, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4http://www.historyofmacedonia.org/MacedonianGreekConflict/conflict.html
According to the above link Macedonians were a distinct race, but according to Herodotus (484BC-425BC) they were Hellenes today known as Greeks. I can't go as far as how much modern Greeks are the same as the ancient ones, but I can assure you that -genetically speaking- they're their closest relatives. In fact my family's DNA has been identified 92% Macedonian and I'm Greek myself, speak Greek and as far as I know all my ancestors spoke Greek, leading -presumably- to ancient Makedonia. The Slav populace descended around the 6th century BC in the area, even FYROM's former President mr Gligorov notified that modern day Macedonia should not be confused with the ancient one as they don't connect historically. The think became unnecessarily way too much political, I mean nobody thought -20 years ago- that any non-Greek would claim to be Makedonian, we came by surprise.....
I'm sorry to hijack digg space for what some people may see as militant nationalism, especially in so much of an off-topic manner, but for everyone who's still wondering I can send him my family's DNA samples, as much as many of my compatriots'. - bytte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Wow, we should make a story out of this comment and start digging it. I didn't know George W Bush had done anything yet after he got elected.
- Stevethegreat, on 10/10/2007, -6/+8Wait, I thought I'm Makedonian, now a guy who does not even speak Greek is Makedonian also? I mean I could easily have a talk with Alexander the Great and understand every last word of him, I bet mr Senad wouldn't be able to do so (sorry for nitpicking but, believe me, if Mexico was renamed to Texas, I think there would be about the same outrage) .
Anyway if the guy is right I would (among others) be eternally grateful to him, he would literally open the doors for iphone for the rest of the world.... - skellener, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2> Deepdark: Yes, but you can’t sell a car and then say to the buyer,
> “hey listen, you must drive 50kmh”. It’s so stupid.
Uh, dude, they do that all the time, it's called a speed limit. I am totally in favor of hacking the iPhone, he just made a terrible analogy. A better one would be ... it's more like selling you a car and telling you you must only drive on rodes provided by AT&T. You aren't going to do that. You are gonna take the ones you wanna take. - Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"in europe, there are only 2 or 3 cdma providers"
Eh no.
In "Europe" there are tons of CDMA providers for the simple reason that Europe is not a coherent cell network market. Heck, in Sweden alone, there are 4 CDMA network providers and 14 service providers which give you access to those networks. - deepdark, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2thx to all good and bad comment's its a hack or is not a hack ????? only i can say is that OUT of USA if you want to use your iphone you must do this.....that all folks have a nice day/night
- slapthemonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2really?.....but yeah some solid proof will help........
- jpetrov, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1these greek guys are giving me a headache. :)
- discourse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1your comment just made my day :D
- arangel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1And i was taught in school that there is no country called Greece, only FOPOG (Former Ottoman Possession of Greece)... hm.. strange...
You lost the battle for the name my not so good neighboor, admit this to yourself, bury the axe and come over I ll buy you some rakija, it's better than that white sh*t you drink. :)
All the best now. - Stevethegreat, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5I'm the furthest from nationalist you can get. In fact I have been called unpatriotic and anti-Greek many times by my compatriots. It's only that for some long years I knew I was Makedonian and now (the last 10 years) things have changed. I beg your pardon, but populations and nations does not change in 10 short years, it requires some hundreds and as far as I know (even DNA traced) my ancestors lived in this area form virtually forever, I can't get how this makes me a nationalist....
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+6Sadly, nobody gives a ***** what the USA "recognizes".
- emirhan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That means full unlocking of the iPhone is coming in the next couple of days. Don't get adventurous and wait for a couple of days until they unlock the full algorithm
- spiki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1They should buy mastika, not rakija...
- osage, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Hack or no hack. What the hack.
Apple Iphone - i want it - crosssourceing, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0iphone unlock WORKS ! ! ! just unlock it after some time my provider shows :) thanks
and why do u all greeks are piisst off coz a macedonian professional do this and how can u claim macedonia as greece and how can alexandar or filip be a greek name, u only can be a dickosulos or name like ***** cmoon its 2007 even your ambassador talks in public bout this and get kicked from mkd... makedonija do solun Senad idemo dalje.... - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3No one knows, that's why its so amazing!
- makedonija, on 12/17/2007, -0/+01913Th year Macedonia was divided into 3 parts, Vardarska - now Republic of Macedonia, Pirinska - now part of Bulgaria and Egejska - now Part of Greece. It is more then obvious that in Greece leaves more then 600.000 Macedonians that can't speak their language (Macedonian). Are you familiar that most of the cities of the north part of Greece had new Greek names? Like Solun was renamed as Thessaloniki, Voden - Edessa etc. Macedonian nation is very, very old as Macedonia too, but unfortunately our history is vary sad. Greece, Bulgaria and Serbia took a part from our country.
When I go in Greece for a shopping I can speak my language and almost everybody in the north of Greece can understand me because most of them are Macedonians who speak Macedonian but they can't speak it in public. Please visit some cities like Solun, Voden, Kozani, Veria, Voden etc. and ask for old Macedonians and you will see that there leaves different people (Macedonians), with much deferment language then yours (same as ours), deferment tradition, customs etc. I know that you are afraid of those people because you took their land, their basic human rights to speak, learn and talk on their own language but you will have to give them everything back in very near future,
If you need a prove that We, the Macedonians are Alexander's descendants you should come in Macedonia and you will see a lot of historical proves founded in Macedonia from his time and much older that will tell you how old is Macedonian nation. - senih, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0FYROM or Macedonia it doesn't matter, our guy did this not some gay from Greece :)
- JeradQuaranta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Every man is a volume if you know how to read him.
- kedafi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Bro Ive just created account here. I don't understand why If my country was FYROM i found MACEDONIA in the country list.
Anyway, nice joke, Macedonia is Greece haha. I'm probably living in a science fiction movie. - makedonija, on 12/17/2007, -0/+0Stupid people. How come Macedonian has to speak Greek? hahaha. Macedonians do speak Macedonian language. If you are Мacedonian than please translate this: Македонија е на Македонците. Бидете сигурни дека сите Македонци ќе живеат во една иста држава Македонија наскоро. Грците се најголем срам за Европа. Поздрав до сите МАКЕДОНЦИ!
- livevil, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Not only do you get your iphone unlocked you also get a suitcase full of money that has been exchanged after the president of X country has lost it's power via a local banker. Only for $96.
- vertinox, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Greek nationalism much?
I mean Burma wanted to be called Myanmar so we called them Myanmar instead of Burma. If Germany wanted us to call them Deutschland then I guess we can call them Deutschland but they haven't asked us to, but if they did and France told us not too... Then who do we go with? - coolgus, on 10/11/2007, -5/+5The only thing this DeepDark hacked it's his local ip. All the job was made in the dev wiki forum from ozbimmer and Vladimir. He is just stealing their work and try to become famous from this. Also there is not Macedonia country. Only FYROM.
- foukas, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2It always has been. I don't know why people still call FYROM (Skopia) Macedonia.
- danny951, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Burried - Inaccurate
- Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Why? What's the point of doing that?
- mikev, on 10/11/2007, -5/+4nope, I mean FYROM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Macedonia) and macedonia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macedonia_%28region%29)
- kedafi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+090% of the news portals on the net said the home land of Senad is Macedonia. What's the point of telling everybody that its not Macedonia, in fact is FYROM? Everybody ho don't know the problem are thinking that you are the lamest person in the world that got crazy and trying to change world-wide thinking.
Get used to it. It's Macedonia - DocHoliday22, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Don't know about the rest of the world but it was on a UK radio this morning...
- jpetrov, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0"I mean FYROM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Macedonia) "
I hope you can see the cynicism in your comment (check the URL and get back to reality) - rodp, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0When I was in Greece a couple of years ago, I inadvertently said that I'll be driving across the northern border and into "Macedonia", only to ignite a fury from several Greeks, who started yelling at me in one voice, trying to explain that it's not "Macedonia" - it's FYROM (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia). The point is, why do you care and why the hell do you think I should? It's just a damn name. Even people in FYROM know they are not descendants of Alexander the Great, if that's what's important to you. They just want a short name for their country. As far as I'm concerned, you can call it Susan. Dugg the comment about retarded Greek nationalists.
