tuaw.com — iPhone hacker hachu developed a download plug-in for MobileSafari. Once installed and customized, it allows you to download data off the Internet and store it on your iPhone or iPod touch local disk in the /var/root/Downloads folder.

The TUAW posts adds nothing that isn't in the hackint0sh post.
There is no "slogging throught" needed, since the ilnk provided leads directly to the relevant post.

The goal is to make products with the absolute minimum number of buttons or options -- one device that will please the greatest number of people, made with simplicity in mind. How many people in the general public actually have a REASON to download some sort of a file onto their telephone through the web browser? What's more, how many people who haven't *hacked* their phone need to do this? Practically none. Hell, most of you hadn't even thought about it until this very digg submission. So why in the world would Apple include the button and options for this for their phone when it doesn't appeal to the greatest number of people?
Sure, I want the feature too. But that's still no excuse to do something grossly outside of their business model -- something that's been extremely successful for them. - sleze, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1Yeah...I find it odd that any browser in this day and age would not support the downloading of files by default. What happens when you try to click on a file without the plugin? Opera Mini on my old razr handles it just fine.

And for mp3's, etc that normally play with quicktime, this plugin could ask if you want to download them or play them with qt. Possibly something I would like to see in the future--but for now I'm happy.

It has a perfectly functional browser yet it requires a frigging hack just to be able to download a file off the internet?! And I thought Pocket IE's download capability sucked ass.. This just adds to the list of reasons I'm glad I didn't drink AT&T's ***** kool-aid and get an iphone instead of a vastly superior PocketPC (for the same price).

However, I'd prefer someone wake me when I can use something besides god damn iTunes to transfer music and data back and forth. Previous iPods could do it, but I can't seem to find any projects to provide plugins for other media playing software for the iPhone. I'd settle for a stand alone program too. It seems development here is at a standstill... I don't want to be locked into iTunes!
