- saralovemuffins, on 07/28/2008, -16/+139Developers spend a lot of creativity and time on these apps. I have no problem paying for them.
- uilhao, on 07/28/2008, -25/+146JUST BUY THE DAMN THING!!! ITS ONLY 9.99!!! SUPPORT THE GUYS THAT HELP YOU HAVE FUN!
- apersaud, on 07/28/2008, -13/+95SUPPORT THE DEVELOPERS! For most of them, this is their full-time job, and paying for the apps you really like gives them encouragement and support to make them better.
This is not the RIAA or MPAA, these are our fellow coders. - whataboutdave, on 07/28/2008, -3/+74Dude don't.
I just ate. - josereyes0, on 07/28/2008, -9/+52Don't hack cheap apps. They're putting a lot of work into something that you can get for fairly cheap, come on now.
- Moviespo, on 07/28/2008, -13/+51Lame! Hacking $9 app. buy it.............If this were the final cut suit it's one thing, but monkey ball! come on people...
- whataboutdave, on 07/28/2008, -6/+41CAPS LOCK MAKES MY OPINION MORE VALID!
- MxM111, on 07/28/2008, -19/+51Sigh...
And the piracy/anti-piracy war begins on iPhones... Pretty soon we will get several updates per week to counter the hacks... Horrible! What is next? iPhone viruses and virus scanners? - FreddieD, on 07/28/2008, -3/+35Don't copy that floppy!
- enportugal, on 07/28/2008, -9/+40Support the developers???
Why the ***** do you crack Vista, Photoshop, etc, etc.
Photoshop is also made by developers.... - Ca1houn, on 07/28/2008, -14/+44McAfee Mobile!
- AmericanGunner, on 07/28/2008, -2/+32this really come as a surprise to anyone?
- 801NvizioN, on 07/28/2008, -2/+30...Did you just say 'Begins'?
- 801NvizioN, on 07/28/2008, -3/+31And how are they gonna do that?
The users choose if their phone updates or not. - ekula, on 07/28/2008, -12/+39How long will it be before a "vital" update bricks any devices with hacked apps...
- GCarden, on 07/28/2008, -4/+29Apparently we've been browsing different App stores.
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/ ... - ilgaz, on 07/28/2008, -5/+24What was the reason for locking up the device, maintain a single download place where you decide what ships or not again?
- docmacdoc, on 07/28/2008, -3/+22Anyone else hyped about icontrolPad?
http://www.icontrolpad.com/ - peaceninja, on 07/28/2008, -4/+22Greed
- meamog, on 07/28/2008, -2/+19Yep. My time NOT mucking around inside my phone is worth it, too.
- MattB123, on 07/28/2008, -2/+19Bundle it with something everyone will want.
- lupka, on 07/28/2008, -6/+239.99 is a lot for a phone game that i might play 5 minutes a day
- inactive, on 07/28/2008, -1/+18No *****. There isn't a 'man' to rally against here. You're railing against YOURSELVES.
- jakatak, on 07/28/2008, -2/+18They are not charging a lot of money for these apps. Pirates always said if it was cost effective they would pay. Now put your money where your mouth is and let these developers earn a living.
- JSager, on 07/28/2008, -5/+19So don't buy 'em. But don't steal 'em either.
- PainToad, on 07/28/2008, -5/+19Monopoly
- sjmulder, on 07/28/2008, -1/+13Apple does the hosting, some promotion (listing it in the store, can get featured), and payment processing. That's not too bad.
- Ymeg, on 07/28/2008, -4/+16What is the with all the support for buying software now? Since when did diggers start to care about developers?
If this was any big company, digg would be laughing at them.
Moral subjectivity, pffth. - banmaster, on 07/28/2008, -2/+13I wonder when Apple will start using Starforce for its copy protection...
- inactive, on 07/28/2008, -3/+13I tried it, wasn't worth the trouble, when i tried to drop the files over via ssh, i got errors after about 17 mb. I think the problem is the apps should be demos, so you can try it and know what your paying for. What happens if you pay 9.99 and its terrible?
- luma, on 07/29/2008, -0/+10Unlikely. The previous problems with "bricked" phones (and I mean this in the real sense, ie - the phone would never work again) were entirely due to dodgy unlock software which was screwing with the baseband (radio) firmware. All the jailbreak and cracked apps do is work on the traditional OS pieces which can alwys be recovered in DFU or recovery mode on the phone, making it damn near impossible to brick the phone.
Moreover, the "brick" issue can't really be blamed on Apple. They didn't bother to regression test their new code against ***** unlock software from unauthorized vendors. Can you fault them? - GreenLynx, on 07/28/2008, -0/+10...or that $9.99 handjob that lasted 5 minutes.
- sjmulder, on 07/28/2008, -0/+10Of course there are apps that simply suck, but that doesn't mean that developers of apps that don't shouldn't be paid for their work.
- hiddencatch, on 07/28/2008, -1/+11not gonna happen.
1st - you'll always be able to "unbrick" it by restoring an earlier version of the firmware
2nd - if such a thing is released, it won't be long before it's reported and avoided by everyone.
if it's bundled with something everyone wants, then, like with 2.0, community pauses for a few days, then finds a way to rebreak it. - inactive, on 07/29/2008, -0/+9You act like everyone pirates. Newflash: not everyone pirates.
- Nosrac, on 07/28/2008, -3/+12@MattB123
Then everyone wins:
iPhone Users get new features and then rehack the phone with the jailbreak released 2 hours before the file comes out ;-) - deadbaby, on 07/28/2008, -5/+14I wrote an elaborate & thoughtful comment but digg's gay comment system ate it, twice. Seriously, fix your ***** site already or sell out to someone who can.
- lexbaby, on 07/28/2008, -2/+11Just call it the iPSP.
- saralovemuffins, on 07/28/2008, -3/+12I think what people are getting at, is that since most of the apps are so cheap, there really isn't a good reason to pirate. Applications/programs like Photoshop are very expensive, and unaffordable by most people, so they torrent.
- peaceninja, on 07/28/2008, -7/+15Someone needs to build an app where you can pay the developers directly instead of having to go through the apple bottleneck
- SPECOPS, on 07/29/2008, -2/+1024.99 for a voice dialer?
9.99 for Ms. PacMan?
9.99 for PacMac?
Those will be the apps I crack and test out to see if they are worth it, if not, DELETE - the rest with fair prices, I'll buy (if I haven't already). - Tribis, on 07/28/2008, -3/+11Pay for iPhone apps.
Steal music.
Check. - Me1000, on 07/29/2008, -2/+9Developers at Microsoft and Adobe get paid the same salary regardless of how many people actually buy the product.
A lot of the apps in the store are made by independent developers. - aristotle0dude, on 07/28/2008, -2/+9Do you need a job?
- betovarg, on 07/28/2008, -1/+8I would if I COULD. The stupid store in my country doesnt even have the google for iphone app. If they gave us the same as the US then it will be a bit fair. I cant buy monkey ball, then I pirated it. I ACTUALLY SEARCHED for it and it said "no results". Stupid itunes store.
- digitaldivinci, on 07/28/2008, -16/+22The day I pay 9.99 for Tetris is the day I give up my Jailbroken Gen 1 iPhone. Neither are happening.
- ThatsUnpossible, on 07/29/2008, -1/+7I prefer the App Store. It's easier to use. One single place to find iPhone apps, and the fees are reasonable.
Yes, I'm a developer for iPhone. - Proctor, on 07/28/2008, -0/+6That's badass. I'd buy one.
- docmacdoc, on 07/28/2008, -0/+6Should be under $30 and out in the next 60 days!
- inactive, on 07/28/2008, -1/+7OK, so you've stated one app that has an outrageous cost (I agree, Tetris is much too expensive). The problem is people are going to start breaking the DRM on other programs that hard working developers depend on. I doubt this piracy will be widespread in this iteration of the iPhone but it still raises issues.
