iPhone 3G Photos Are Fake, Fake, FAKE
gizmodo.com — Don't get fooled by the alleged 3G iPhone photos. They are not real, just a pasted photo over another cellphone, probably a BlackBerry. "These photos have been up since 12:04AM central european time and it's now 7:04PM (10AM). That's 17 hours up with no Cease and Desist order from Apple Europe or Apple USA." Fake and UGLY.

- screwy3333, on 05/03/2008, -24/+8that phone looks like the one I made in Gimp for my Second Life character
- nightmare1228, on 05/03/2008, -1/+12Second life? lol.
- Falldog, on 05/03/2008, -36/+49Ugly? It looks just like a normal iPhone with a black back.
- wontstoptalking, on 05/03/2008, -10/+36It looks like a normal iPhone with a black back put together by glue and paper.
- Midnitte, on 05/03/2008, -0/+2The logo on the front in the first picture looks like a majorly deformed blackbarry text thats on most models in the same place.
- MCA2142, on 05/03/2008, -13/+8Y...eah, okay.
And Oprah is a Halle Berry with a fat back. - nycmac247, on 05/03/2008, -2/+13??? not even close...the lines are leftover 90s attempts at "clean;" I do not see Apple Industrial putting out ***** bricks like the one pictured. LOL it looks like it was designed by a high school student
- TheWorm, on 05/03/2008, -0/+16As a High School student I am offended...I could do MUCH better than that.
- Twinnie, on 05/03/2008, -2/+6As far as touch-screen phones go I'd say it looks pretty different from the iPhone. No contrasting of colours and tones apart from the white square on the button. The edges of the screen are clearly visible even though the phone's turned off and Apple have used the rounded rectangle look for everything since the first iPod; the curved edges at the top and bottom are just un-Apple. Also the shiny black plastic on the back, I think the only time Apple used that was one the 1st gen iPod Nano.
- the_snitch, on 05/03/2008, -0/+21st gen nano had a shiny metal back, just like the 3rd gen nano
- priegog, on 05/03/2008, -4/+10Haha, I know. I'd love to see this be the real thing and watching people claim it's prettier than ice-cream on a waffle. Fanboyism at its best.
- solidus636, on 05/03/2008, -0/+3The first thing I thought of when looking at the preview was that this thing looks exactly like the Vu from ATT.
- wontstoptalking, on 05/03/2008, -10/+36It looks like a normal iPhone with a black back put together by glue and paper.
- streak, on 05/03/2008, -13/+3If it's fake, it's not that bad of a design--and certainly nothing like what RIM/Blackberry could ever come up with! I thought it might be an iPhone mini or nano. There are rumors of a smaller (2.8") screen. I don't believe Apple will abandon the current iPhone's larger display, so if the 2.8" rumor is true, that would make 2 models of the next generation iPhone.
- bumblefoot, on 05/03/2008, -2/+199want to know what tipped me off they were fake,
you get a 3g iphone some how, decide to take pics, surely you would take a pic of it while its actually turned on wouldn't you?- l33tforlif3, on 05/03/2008, -2/+52the pictures look like crap as well. The deformed apple logo doesnt help either.
- MrPig, on 05/03/2008, -0/+47The pixels gave it away for me. The reflections were also messed up.
- tehmacuser, on 05/03/2008, -12/+3 I see this joke a lot, but who originally said this? A link?

- mKdiR, on 05/03/2008, -11/+3oh so you mean apart from the twice repeated sound of FAKE that was in the title?
- bumblefoot, on 05/03/2008, -1/+5i mean from the original story a couple of days ago, and its repeated 3 times ;-)
and technically its not a sound

- badqat, on 05/03/2008, -8/+2If you ask me, I don't get the RIM/Crackberry reference...however, it wouldn't be hard to 'shop an LG Shine into that, which is what I've thought since I first saw it.
- psykiv, on 05/03/2008, -1/+3The silver strip on the top of the phone, in the middle, looks exactly like the one on my 8800.

- cronot, on 05/03/2008, -0/+1fake, Fake, FAKE, FAAAAAAAAKE!!! GRRROWWLLLLLLGHHHH!!! (Turns into Hulk)
- senatorpjt, on 05/03/2008, -2/+22I can't believe anyone thought it was real. It wasn't just ugly. Apple may make things that are kind of ugly sometimes, but they never make things that look cheap - like this did. The only thing I could think is that it looked like a cheap Chinese pirate knockoff.
- yokozuka, on 05/03/2008, -0/+3Sadly, Engadget and other blogs gave it credibility. Engadget's post even made it to Digg front page. It was clear it's a photoshop job and just running the photos through Shadows & Highlights shows it. Funnily enough, after Gizmodo called it a fake (still no C&D order, btw), Engadget quickly added a note. Same old, same old. -sigh-
- Karmavs, on 05/04/2008, -0/+1The first iPod shuffle looked kind of cheap.

- hopeast, on 05/03/2008, -5/+6I could tell it was fake just by looking at the shadows.
- Wootstapler, on 05/03/2008, -1/+4Congratz!
- theimacguy, on 05/04/2008, -0/+1And the pixels. I could tell by the pixels. Plus the angles are all wrong.

- WomensUnderwear, on 05/03/2008, -9/+30oh wow thank god someone has alerted me to this. i was about to try and buy one. thank god. praise allah. the internet is wonderful. thank you for this news. great stuff. keep up the good work. now can anyone help me, i have an email from paypal saying they lost my login details could i send them? is this legit? also the nigerian royal family have contacted me, can you believe it! they want me to look after some money, seems like a great great deal
- VaporBro, on 05/03/2008, -11/+4You need friends.
- phybere, on 05/03/2008, -1/+34I got that SAME EMAIL. It's a SCAM, don't send your info. Just to make sure you haven't already been scammed, send me your bank account numbers and social security numbers so I can run a check on them to make sure you're safe.

- ogisdan, on 05/03/2008, -3/+5Anyone with half a brain would have known that those pictures are fake. That thing looks ugly as *****, and I highly doubt apple would release something like that.

- kreatre2007, on 05/03/2008, -11/+2The photos looked like ASS!! Of course they were fake. Apple doesn't make ugly products.
- Chalks777, on 05/03/2008, -2/+6From 1998: http://apple-history.com/?page=gallery&model=g3aio ...
- kreatre2007, on 05/03/2008, -6/+2Yeah... From 1998. Apple doesn't currently make that product. I bet you searched and searched for something ugly with the Apple logo on it that is ugly just to disprove me. Great job!!! Why in the ***** are people digging me down on this????
- Chalks777, on 05/03/2008, -2/+6From 1998: http://apple-history.com/?page=gallery&model=g3aio ...
- optionshiftk, on 05/03/2008, -4/+7The most obvious give away that this so called" 3G iphone"is fake is the use of polycarbonate. Apple is not going to press a new product out of ancient polycarbonate; that trend is over. If there is going to be a new 3G iphone, it will be made of aluminum and glass just like every other product in apple's family.
- Wootstapler, on 05/03/2008, -0/+1Don't forget ego too!
- cloak419, on 05/03/2008, -2/+3Caught red handed.
- KezG, on 05/03/2008, -3/+5A part of me wants this to be real now, just so I can laugh at the use of FAKE in caps...
- sonicularulus, on 05/03/2008, -4/+4i think its real.
LG kind of copied apple's user interface.
so apple strikes back and copies lg's hardware design. i think its only fair....
*sarcasm - Agreb91, on 05/03/2008, -2/+4You can tell they are fake just by looking at the pictures. The Apple logo is way off in the picture.
- Wootstapler, on 05/03/2008, -4/+4Did we really need spamodo to tell us it was fake?
- maxthreepwood, on 05/03/2008, -1/+5Apparently yes, since a thousand people dugg the post in which Spatgadget gave them credibility.
- Wootstapler, on 05/03/2008, -2/+1Just because it's dugg, doesn't mean someone believes it's real -_-
- maxthreepwood, on 05/03/2008, -1/+5Apparently yes, since a thousand people dugg the post in which Spatgadget gave them credibility.
- ahpro, on 05/03/2008, -6/+5You call it ugly now you know it's fake and yet if it was found to be true you'd be on your knees licking steve jobs' nuts congratulating him on yet another great product.
- DipDog3, on 05/03/2008, -5/+4It's real, here are some better pictures: http://www.redrome.com/news
- teh_techie, on 05/03/2008, -1/+3Wouldn't we all be ***** if we found out this WAS real? Yikes, I'd get a restraining order against the damn thing!
- yhan, on 05/03/2008, -1/+2Of course they are, something as ugly as that would never come from Apple's design department. Never mention getting the approval of the allmighty.
- phoxix, on 05/03/2008, -2/+3"That's 17 hours up with no Cease and Desist order from Apple Europe or Apple USA."
So we're celebrating Apple Legal Team's ability to send mindless C-n-D's ? Really ? ...
The lawyers really have won ... thanks to the fanboyz ... - uberamd, on 05/03/2008, -0/+4Did anyone ever believe these were real? Oh wait, tons of people did because some 600 people + dugg the story. Pathetic.
- PPCG4, on 05/03/2008, -2/+4This looks shopped. I can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my time.
- ucg1, on 05/03/2008, -1/+3Thank you captain obvious. You have to be a moron to believe those are real.
- RATM4EVER, on 05/03/2008, -0/+4"I don't give a *****, *****, *****!"
-- Tourettes guy - juicebag, on 05/03/2008, -1/+3I don't think Apple would bother, as they can sell millions of iPhones without putting in more expensive hardware.
- melonade, on 05/03/2008, -1/+3The button looks hideous.
- theshmo007, on 05/03/2008, -1/+2It's a LG VU not a blackberry, but it's still very fake.
- MyDiggIsBig, on 05/03/2008, -1/+4the screaming, the panting, the moaning... fake fake, fake fake
- iRelinquish, on 05/03/2008, -2/+3The photo's are fake fake FAKE!
-Thats what she said - stormbreaker, on 05/03/2008, -1/+3Even if the IS the 3G iPhone (which it's not), don't worry folks.
We all know it looks like ***** and Apple can read. They'd redesign this baby in a heartbeat. - SirPasta117, on 05/03/2008, -0/+4funny thing is that if Apple did release that all the Apple Fanboys will ***** themselves with delight.
- tehjarvis, on 05/03/2008, -0/+4Did we really need another submission for this?
- Auntmac, on 05/03/2008, -0/+3Fake or not, something about that hand creeps me out. Looks like a crime scene photo.
- nycmac247, on 05/03/2008, -0/+1you have something against hand models?
- AzMegladon, on 05/03/2008, -3/+4Ha, all you stupid mactards were in drool mode too, you chimps really are stupid, ROFL
- griz, on 05/03/2008, -1/+3No cease and desist doesn't mean anything. Didn't the "fatboy" nano show up and people were saying the same thing? Ugly and no cease and desist order.
- yokozuka, on 05/03/2008, -0/+3No, you are wrong, sorry.
When the nano was published Apple send a C&D to ALL blogs that published. Engadget, Gizmodo, and all the blogs had to take it down, but Gizmodo did an illustration of the fat nano and got away with it. Apple asked to take it down, but they couldn't enforce it because it wasn't their copyrighted material, but Gizmodo's own illustration. You can see it here:

- yokozuka, on 05/03/2008, -0/+3No, you are wrong, sorry.
- VinceP, on 05/03/2008, -2/+2Who would get a brand new 3G iPhone and get it scratched up? No one.
- maddonkey, on 05/03/2008, -0/+2thats what i was thinking also
my phone and ipod have less scratches and they are about 2 years old
- maddonkey, on 05/03/2008, -0/+2thats what i was thinking also
- agentlame, on 05/03/2008, -3/+1"* Yes, frogsters. You see, this is completely unrelated to the fake iPhone, but I'm in Madrid, Spain, and today is the 200th Anniversary of the uprising against the French occupational forces in Madrid, which started the revolution that kicked Napoleonic troops out of the country. So today it's frogsters, or the Spanish equivalent, gabachos. (And for the record, I love France.)"
Is it just me, or is gizmodo trying to win "Most unprofessional blog of 2008"? What kind of bleditor would allow something like this to be included? And in of ALL places, a tech blog?
Gizmodo is a joke.- maxthreepwood, on 05/03/2008, -0/+3Frogster!
- wondertwins, on 05/04/2008, -1/+1ok... no one asked you for some stupid history lesson about Spain. Go to some school and teach that.
- MrViklund, on 05/03/2008, -3/+2Buried as spam because of gizmodo.com. They are not worthy to write anything about Apple or the iPhone.
