- gazzerh, on 07/15/2008, -8/+129Great. At least I can install some useful apps like Terminal instead of about 10 variations of the iLight and a bunch of crappy games.
- mightymouse, on 07/15/2008, -4/+83Stop cockteasing and release the thing!
- albiniak, on 07/15/2008, -2/+80dugg in anticipation of the real story - "We jailbroke 3g, now you can too!" (ie, software release).
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -2/+73No. This allows you to install anything in your iphone. That's unlocking.
- acevoncash, on 07/15/2008, -4/+63i hope this brings down the resale price of the edge iphone. I wanna pick one of those up..
- mikegcallahan, on 07/15/2008, -2/+57This is great. No Apple limitations, true free iPhone development platform.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -1/+43True. The iPhone App Store is a mess right now.
- smpx, on 07/15/2008, -3/+43BREAKING NEWS! We've written a jailbreak for the iPhone 4G, before it's even been invented yet! It's ready! We'll totally release it soon! Maybe tomorrow! Maybe next week!
What? You want to try it? Sure! We'll release it when... you know, when we feel like it. Seriously! Meanwhile give us more publicity! We deserve it! - TheDude01, on 07/15/2008, -1/+37when? when? when? can't wait for 2.0 for my jailbroken/unlocked 1.1.4 iPhone !!
- Kinsbane, on 07/15/2008, -7/+33Does this jailbreak also allow for carrier switching?
- docmacdoc, on 07/15/2008, -1/+23keep in mind Apple has not taken down the referb iPhone page:
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/A ...
So I would think that would be a good way to still get an iPhone w/o a crappy at&t contract:)
- brivix, on 07/15/2008, -1/+21How about it, I'm sick of seeing these stories without links to download stuff to actually do it....
- GothAlice, on 07/15/2008, -1/+21I'll be managing my servers, transferring files, and writing code, amongst other goodies. VNC over SSH is nice, too. Rsync backups and general file synchronization (books, etc.), native compiling, and execution of utility Python scripts.
Seriously, WTF /can't/ you do with a terminal, no matter what device it's on?
Then again, I grew up hacking WYSE terminals connected to my 386 running a derivative of BSD, so… - ATLien74, on 07/15/2008, -0/+19Oh ok... I didn't know the difference either, thanks for clearing that up.
- drn666, on 07/15/2008, -6/+24Yawn. When the dev team ends their childish drama and actually -releases- something, then we'll talk. It's always the same thing with them though... "we have the update, but we're not releasing it". Then someone releases something, beating them to it, and they accuse them of stealing. They did it when Zibri release Ziphone and they're doing it to Geohot (the one who's actually done all the real hard work) with YiPhone.
Now that Rogers/Canada has iPhone (and I've acquire a shiny, legit 3G) I can't be bothered to jailbreak. Freedom is good. Not having to put up with the childish drama queens on the dev team is even better. - earnjam, on 07/15/2008, -0/+18You can buy mine if it doesn't.
- Parastie, on 07/15/2008, -2/+18It's all a lie, just like Duke Nukem Forever...
- PabloMac, on 07/15/2008, -4/+20Dug for "."
- earnjam, on 07/15/2008, -2/+17Or you could get a job and pay for it like normal people.
- DeFex, on 07/15/2008, -1/+15mmmm apple pies
- schneb, on 07/15/2008, -0/+14Now if only I can jailbreak out of a mandatory AT&T contract. :P
- max1018, on 07/15/2008, -0/+13Allowing you to install anything is jailbreaking. Allowing you to switch carriers is unlocking. The iPhone 3G has not yet been unlocked, but has been jailbroken.
- comradeTJH, on 07/15/2008, -0/+13Yes dammit. It's like the 4th time an article strikes diggs frontpage with titles like "iPhone 2.0 unlocked!!!" , "iPhone 3G jailbroken" every time I had big hopes for a download ... but noooooo....
- TomFrost, on 07/15/2008, -0/+13It's called Fring, and it lets you call out via Skype, GTalk, SIP, and others too I believe. As long as you're on Wifi, you can call around as much as you want without spending a cent (in most cases).
http://www.fring.com/iphone - prisoner24601, on 07/15/2008, -1/+12The main thing that has been holding me back from an iPhone is the inability to use it as a bluetooth modem with my notebook. It's laughable that AT&T tries to say with a straight face "yes, we know you pay for a data plan on your iPhone, but we still expect you to carry a second card AND also subscribe to a second data plan too." This should have that problem fixed soon.
For them to expect to charge $60 a month for a second data plan on top of the $30 you are already paying for the iPhone data plan is just absurd when they know you will only be using one or the other. - AndrewWiggin, on 07/15/2008, -0/+11I don't understand what news this is. We already knew the dev team could unlock 2.0 software, is it just news that they have done it on a 3G iPhone now too? I would have assumed that with the same software (and mostly hardware) it would mean the same thing. I thought this was a release announcement and I am dissapointed :(
- Shootfast, on 07/15/2008, -1/+11and the cake :(
- bakstuh, on 07/15/2008, -1/+11Wow.
- Sblader5, on 07/15/2008, -0/+9no one... yet
- colto, on 07/15/2008, -1/+10*Generic Adblock comment here*
- LeviTheSmith, on 07/15/2008, -2/+11It does. I downloaded it off limewire. It is called iphone-3g-jail-break-horny-girl--masturbates-on-web-cam.exe
- docmacdoc, on 07/15/2008, -3/+11This has been a hell of a wait! All the videos and teasing has been worse than the first jailbreak for sure!
- bpapa, on 07/15/2008, -3/+11I doubt we'll ever see Terminal (and wonder why you would even want it), but I'm sure an SSH client has to be coming anytime now. Unless Apple keeps rejecting them, which I could see as a security concern.
- kevinwiz, on 07/15/2008, -2/+10I don't consider it jailbroken until I can jailbreak it! Buried!
- spookyttws, on 07/15/2008, -1/+9Totally with you, I never updated, still on 1.1.1.
- smpx, on 07/15/2008, -0/+8Doesn't exist. This is the news report talking about future software.
- jthornburg1, on 07/15/2008, -2/+10ちくしょう...書きたかった言葉もう忘れた.あ!思い出した!ホーボーバジャイナ!
- myk7, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7just picked one up for $150 off craigslist, thanks to a little negotiation :) Sold my used blackjack II today for $150 using craigslist. Not bad. My advice if you want to buy an older iphone: dont reply to ads people POST, they get a lot of responses. Instead, post a WANTED ad and let the sellers come to you. I got multiple emails until I felt one lady would take lower than the $200 she was asking.
- P373Y, on 07/15/2008, -2/+9apple doesn't do cut, the proper way to beg for your copy paste would be to say copy, and not cut
- eschompthis, on 07/15/2008, -1/+8I want the tool already!!!!! but not pressure dev team :) I admire your work, I speak your name
- IEatHamburgers, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7Way to go, you gave away the hidden secret and they pulled the iPhone off of there. WHY APPLE, WHY?
- PathDaemon, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7Aaand, the refurbs are gone.
- drcreek, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7They've already got a years experience. When I was unlocked on 1.1.4 the apps were more stable than they are officially though the App Store
- haikuFU, on 07/15/2008, -2/+9> Stop cockteasing and release the thing!
Just wait a bit, they are going to keep rubbing the tip of their ***** on your butthole for awhile longer. - Bob042, on 07/15/2008, -1/+8Corrected title: "Picture of iPhone 3G with a pineapple on it posted".
This should be a great tool if it's everything dev team claims, but it's not released yet. I don't think the devs really need more OMG WHER IS IPHON HAX? comments. - earnjam, on 07/15/2008, -0/+6me?
- dspirito, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5i just got one for $175 on craigslist in near mint shape 8gig
- LawSchoolBound, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5This would still be useful to those with a 1st gen iphone who want to upgrade to 2.0 software
