- vladin, on 07/24/2008, -1/+20The problem right now is 1.4 apps do not play well with 2.0. The following was taken from http://www.tuaw.com/2008/07/21/livechat-pwnage-and ...
[Comment From Simon]
I have used Pwnage 2.0 and now have v2.0 jailbroken on my 1st Gen iPhone. Do you know if all the apps
listed in Cydia will work on 2.0 because there are hundreds missing
Erica Sadun: If you're pwned and on 2.0, you will only see 2.0 apps on Cydia.
Erica Sadun: The 2.0 frameworks use new classes and [redacted] [redacted] are [redacted]
[Comment From hbkdinobot]
Will 2.0 prevnet certain apps found on 1.1.4 from ever running?
Erica Sadun: Yes. 1.1.4 apps are not compatible with 2.0
Erica Sadun: Some apps are easy to port, others quite hard - srt4b, on 07/25/2008, -0/+18"Note Windows 2003/2008 server (Yes SERVER) are not supported neither is Windows 95 or Windows 3.11"
Who the hell was trying to unlock their iPhone on Windows 3.11? - Zybergod, on 07/25/2008, -5/+18I upgraded to 2.0 and don't really feel the need to get apps from anywhere other than the app store right now.
- KilGil27, on 07/25/2008, -1/+11not so fast
- sockpuppets, on 07/25/2008, -1/+10...and you don't want to make the home page angry. You wouldn't like it when it's angry...
- Th3Kyle, on 07/24/2008, -2/+10I'll be waiting until they start to port over the 1.14 apps. No point in bricking my phone for little or no utility. Hopefully there will be some more stable jail break software out by then.
- Almadiel, on 07/25/2008, -0/+6Calling it a windows version of pwnage isn't really accurate. It is not supported by the iphone dev team, its just based on their open source xpwn library.
- virtualball, on 07/25/2008, -0/+6Apple has never bricked any iPhones/iPods... They've actually been rather tame about the whole jailbreak situation...
- pyrates, on 07/25/2008, -1/+6If you understood how it works, you'd know that Apple can't brick them with the method being used.
- kram8912, on 07/24/2008, -5/+10baby! its here. :) back to free etch sketch and pool!
oh yeah and my video recorder !! :) - Firespray1138, on 07/25/2008, -1/+6I have to say again, what's the point in jailbreaking 2.0 right now? There's hardly any applications that have yet to be ported to the new 2.0 frameworks.
- babazoid, on 07/25/2008, -1/+6Why does the headline say Unlock? It doesn't unlock the 3G -- misleading.
- jimr, on 07/25/2008, -0/+5My impression is that it's the official SDK and related T's&C's that prevent use of background processes.
Wouldn't apps developed outside that framework have full access to the underlying OS, which absolutely does support background processes? - srt4b, on 07/25/2008, -1/+4You're doing it wrong
- anubis2night, on 07/25/2008, -1/+4First off my many and continued thanks to the ipod dev team for all the hard work. Next, 1.1.4 apps do not work with 2.0 and some of them have been ported over but not all, do some research for what has been and then decide if you want to make the switch, as for Apple locking them out I doubt it will work , they went into the bootloader so Apple couldn't do anything about it that's why it took a while to work out the kinks...
- crash331, on 07/25/2008, -1/+4I need an unlock, not a jailbreak.
- kolop1, on 07/25/2008, -5/+8This is the 2nd time in one day this story has mad front page.
- JTMON, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2Yes you can have AIM run in the background, there's an option to auto exit aim when you close the app, uncheck it or don't check it in the first place and aim will stay logged in, not sure if you can still get messages but the person replying saying iphone doesn't have background processes is completely talking out his ass and has no clue..1.1.4 even had an app to see all that was running and end certain things like task manager on a windows machine.
- 12340987, on 07/25/2008, -1/+3i would like to see a 3g unlock
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -1/+3It has worked well here.
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2It baffles me that you think the the only music you can play on an iphone is bought from itunes.
You realise that it plays mp3 like every other play does don't you? - inactive, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2*****. what was redacted?
I hope it was insignificant - cramd, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2I moved to 2.0 a earlier this week. At first I was quite unhappy with the fact that I had lost all of my applications. I started to think about which apps that I used, and would really miss, and it turns out that there were really very few that were critical.
The new stock features of 2.0 made it worth the move. The ability to search contacts, have "push" email, make me forget about not having themes for now. The best part is that I should now be able to retire my blackberry. - inactive, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2I-phone chomps *****
- andreo, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2If you install the AIM client from the app store: No background processes. So if the program isn't running. Your not getting any messages from AIM.
If you run a program made for a jailbroken iPhone: Yes background processes. You can go and do other things on the phone and it will continue to run.
As for bricking... There are those that say Apple is just waiting to teach Jailbreakers a lesson. Is this true? I have no idea. Nobody is stealing anything so it shouldn't be a big deal. However, Jailbreaking the phone will void the warranty. Apple has a sign up in their stores saying that your pretty much on your own if you run any unapproved 3rd party applications. And if they do throw a switch to kill or disable jailbroken phones there will be some pretty long lines at Apple and ATT stores filled with people that "have no idea what happened to the phone". - srt4b, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2It's on the top of www.winpwn.com, isn't that supporting it?
- virtualball, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1wait a minute
- johndatserakis, on 07/25/2008, -1/+2because you updated to the newest firmware...obviously
- likwidfuzion, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1The apps need to be ported over.
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -1/+2So my dad wants an AIM program that works in the backround. If I jailbroke his phone, it could do that?(Assuming the app is 2.0 compatible)
Now, is there any chance it can brick the phone(Other than pulling the plug during the install or something obvious)? Like if I do this, and 2.1 comes out, and he just updates it, it will just go back to a stock firmware, right? I know unlocking could do some potential damage, I just want to jailbrake though. - srt4b, on 07/25/2008, -2/+3Then don't, it also unlocks.
- Hellman109, on 07/25/2008, -1/+2Ive had mine on 2.0 for over a week now...
- wontstoptalking, on 07/24/2008, -8/+9The funny thing is that in two weeks, maybe less (I'd give it 5 days minimum, a month max) Apple will brick 'em. But that won't stop me!
And the back-and-forth struggle begins again. - AndrewWiggin, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1Why would you wait? You don't get a cookie for waiting.
- pyrates, on 07/25/2008, -1/+2Inaccurate and old, 2.0.0.2 is already out.
- PPCG4, on 07/25/2008, -2/+3Thanks so much iPhone Dev Team for your hard work. We love you for it.
iPhone 3G unlock please :) - davidlick, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1How in the world did you get a replacement for pwning your phone.

- Firespray1138, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1Waiting gives you more cookies.
- JTMON, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1Haven't seen the app store or just don't think you can use it? You can use it and there are many apps there in addition to Cydia..Installer 4 is around the corner as well.
- MacBookForMe, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1Would love to have one...
- bilco, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1I tried to create the Custom firmware on 3 different machines, before finally getting it to work.
I've uploaded the file if anyone else has similar problems, its at:

- MindsCave, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1cant really brick an iPhone per say - there is always a way back if you actually know what you are doing and take your time to rtfm...
