iPhone 2.0 Golden Master Could Hit this Friday
gizmodo.com — According to a sources inside the Cupertino's iPhone software development effort, it is "highly probable" that the iPhone 2.0 Golden Master will hit this Friday. The final version could arrive two weeks before the introduction of the new iPhone 3G and just in time for the promised June release. Current 345 build activates two code-signing features

The iPhone 2.0 software is going to be available for free (for every iPhone 1.0) at the end of June. That's what Apple's iPhone OS 2.0 press release said.- akarpo, on 06/25/2008, -2/+25Actually, no.
Steve said "early July". Link the press release.- yokozuka, on 06/25/2008, -0/+5True, the date is July 11th for the public release. Golden master "highly probable" coming on friday, but no to the public.
- MavRevMatt, on 06/25/2008, -0/+2All this golden master means is that it's set in stone and finalised. It has nothing to do with the actual release.
- FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1"During the 1990s, Apple Inc. used the term "golden master" for its release candidates, and the final golden master was the general availability release."

- MavRevMatt, on 06/25/2008, -0/+3According to a guy I know on Twitter the 2.0 firmware, which the 3g runs, has already been jailbroken in the developer betas, and he said the finals should follow as well.

I really do hope he's right, I want to be able to get the best of both worlds. - returnofthemac, on 06/26/2008, -1/+5i hate to sound like a sheep here but- with 3rd party apps available. why jailbreak? I personally enjoy stable and trustable apps on my expensive devices.

- NealCrosby, on 06/25/2008, -1/+1Don't worry about that. There will be all kinds of unlock methods after release. I have a unlocked/jailbroken iPhone and i'm guessing I will be installing the 2.0 software within a week of release.
- SpoonDigg, on 06/25/2008, -8/+2your sister is....
- marksands07, on 06/25/2008, -0/+1The 2.0 update is kind of the reason I restored my jailbroken iPhone. It's really only jailbroken for twinkle -- twitterific has already won an ADA for a their new app that will arrive in the app store which will do a much better job I'm sure.
- norbiu, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1I restored my Touch hours before WWDC, thinking the update will be available after the announcement. Well, I got ***** and after a few days realized that the Touch is NOTHING without the apps.

- aristotle0dude, on 06/26/2008, -0/+4So who will you get to screw you instead? What other provider will offer you GSM service with 3G in the US? How do their data plans compare to AT&T? Sprint is CDMA, Virgin is CDMA.

- ManIs5, on 06/25/2008, -8/+4But will it do voice dialing? The lack of that one feature is the downfall of the current iPhone.
- xero9, on 06/26/2008, -0/+5I wouldn't call it a downfall, but it is a bit of a limitation. Voice dialing would be very handy when trying to dial a number in the car. The lack of tactile feedback from the phone is only only true complaint of the phone, obviously there's no way around it.
- ManIs5, on 06/26/2008, -0/+4But voice dialing seems like it would be easy to fix. And since it's such a common feature on other phones, I was very surprised when I discovered my iPhone wouldn't do it. Since I use the iPhone in the car constantly, the lack of voice dialing is what keeps me from endorsing it when people ask how I like it.
Funny how I'm getting Dugg down by the fanboys.- mrBitch, on 06/26/2008, -0/+2I dugg all of you up - iPhone can easily support voice dialing.
If Apple doesn't do it will a 3rd party app take care of this?
Any 3rd party developers out there on this?

- xero9, on 06/26/2008, -0/+2Jailbreak before the iPhone is sort of "jailed" the begin with, as in it's restricted. Or am I completely mistaken. I thought that's what it meant

With a spike in tech support, Apple will insure it's best engineers, not the weekend help, will be available for those with 2.0 problems. 2.0 will release when the 3G iPhone does, July 11th. Apple does nothing early.
- awp0, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1That would make a lot of sense except for the fact that July 11th is also a Friday.
- deadbaby, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1Well, AT&T denied vacations for their employees so I wouldn't be surprised if Apple is having their people work extra weekend hours.

- darkfus, on 06/26/2008, -0/+2Yay. I think they were pretty clear when they said "early July" which of course means sometime on the 11th or thereafter. iPhone 2.0 hardware is probably the quickest path to the new firmware, at least if Apple is smart.
