January 24, 2008: Dev Team Member Gone Rogue, Unauthorized Release
NateTrue has recently leaked a v1.1.3 Jailbreak without the Dev-Team's permission, getting himself kicked off the team. Against our wishes, he's included patches which have a strong change of containing copyrighted information, too, which may make his personal release illegal. I'd like to strongly advise against using his system for upgrading, and make it known that the rest of the dev team does not support software piracy or copyright infringement. The method the Dev Team was/is planning on releasing allows you to perform the jailbreak without violating federal law. - artifishall, on 01/25/2008, -2/+20can't wait to start jiggling my icons
- MadFlava, on 01/25/2008, -5/+20The dev team has become more and more about secrecy and information withholding than they have about releasing jailbreaks, unlocks, etc.
- ravage86, on 01/25/2008, -0/+9real men use stdio
- markwilcox, on 01/25/2008, -1/+7You should have buried the one you posted. That's just TUAW blogspam whereas this links straight to Nate True's blog.
- likwidfuzion, on 01/25/2008, -0/+6The steps are clearly written. RTFA.
- DarkFusion, on 01/25/2008, -0/+5We need a mac version!!!
- Entheoddity, on 01/25/2008, -1/+6three different duplicates on the front page...thats why it needs to take more diggs

- nickbr00tality, on 01/25/2008, -0/+4I wish they'd jailbreak the one's already updated to 1.1.3...
- likwidfuzion, on 01/25/2008, -0/+4Prerequisite: Jailbroken 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 iPhone with Installer.app
- diversionmary, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3C-C-C-C-CODE BREAKER
- WiseWeasel, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3Information wants to be free (and anthropomorphized) . There's such a demand for these jailbreaks, that artificial waiting periods are just futile. Sooner or later, SOMEONE was going to release a jailbreak method. If Apple patches this jailbreak, then people will have to find a way to break it again, and life goes on. It was not reasonable for them to think that they could just sit on their exploit, in the hopes of avoiding the need for another exploit at the next update. iPhone users demand an exploit NOW, and it's unclear why skipping a possible extra round of breaking/patching by having no current solution available was deemed necessary.
Either way, this particular exploit isn't even practical, similar to the 1.1.2 jailbreak, because you have to install a previous firmware first and then patch the update image and install it through the back door. This is a very complex procedure, and it drastically limits the market for jailbroken iPhones. If they had some juicy exploit like the browser-based TIFF exploit for 1.1.1, then I might understand wanting to sit on it until the SDK's release. A suboptimal solution like this though, I don't see why it was worth protecting by inconveniencing current users.
Besides, Apple needs to be kept on their toes, lest they become complacent... : P We can't make their DRM lockdown policies too easy to implement, so that they are forced to spend significant resources to keep updating them each time they get broken... I own Apple stock, and I love my iPhone and Macs, but I absolutely hate their tendencies to lock me out of my own phone/portable computer, and I support any effort to make their lives more difficult in this regard. - stevets, on 01/25/2008, -2/+5Wow, well done guys. All of your work is much appreciated!
- elitexero, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3Works fine on an 8gig iTouch... can't get the damn wobble to work though :(
- poonaka, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3wish I got a massage
- redheadguy719, on 01/25/2008, -1/+4I'm guessing its possible illegality is due to its inclusion of the iTunesMobileDevice.dll file that is normally something you have to copy yourself to the directory...
- loves2spooge, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3This works! Although if you're using vista run iBrickr in in admin mode as it doesn't seem to upload properly if you don't.... Also as you probably guess some any apps that need admin (i.e. customize, mobile scrobbler) don't work so be ready to say bye bye to them
- aptiva, on 01/25/2008, -1/+3That's not even valid c++ you idiot...
- protoZ, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Confirmed. Updated mine with the instrucktions listed.
Now runnning 1.1.3 with 04.02.13G BB unlocked. - Ender7584, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2For anyone that upgraded to 1.1.3 and needs to downgrade again (which you need to do before jail breaking it):
http://www.modmyifone.com/forums/showthread.php?t= ... - dieselstation, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2no. jailbreak and install installer.app first on 1.1.2, THEN run the ibricker.
- purpleaffro, on 01/25/2008, -1/+3This works on touch
- aceslick911, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2already done. use the same process but u will have to BUY the update to see the jiggling springboard

- gjscds, on 01/25/2008, -3/+5You sir, are gay. And your leader is irrelevant.
- buktotruth, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2The initial part of the jailbreak that checks if your phone is compliant doesn't seem to pick up an iPhone that's on version 1.1.1 and broken via jailbreakme.com (my current set up). The instructions say that the phone just needs to be jailbroken (have installer.app) and running v 1.1.1 or 1.1.2, but I meet that requirement and can't do it.
Any thoughts? - SaTaNKiLLeR, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Everything worked great went from 1.0.2 --->1.1.1--->1.1.3 i did get an error massage when i was installing the 1.1.3 soft upgrade so i restarted the iphone and to my surprise 1.1.3 was installed and working. And my phone is unlocked still "Rogers". :)
- mark1599, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Thanks guys! Running jailbroken 1.1.3 iPod Touch now!
- haylel, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2This just happened to me as well.
- br0ken1128, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Yeah please let me know.. I'm running 1.1.3 and I had iphonesimfree.. now I have an admittedly upgraded, activated .. but LOCKED phone.. I have no signal .. no bars .. as if it's locked still ..
- seanthebond, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2I jailbroke 1.1.3, although I can't get the "wiggly" to work. Anybody else having this problem?
- nullaesthetics, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2For some reason I cant past the qualifying screen. I have a 1.1.1 phone using jailbreakme.com anyone know what i could do?
- wibambau, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Here's a total guide to get you a 1.1.2 jailbreak:
http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=593
This guide assumes you're at 1.1.2. Starting from 1.1.1 you'd be saving a few steps in the beginning. Many thanks to slevytam at ilounge. - c99koder, on 01/27/2008, -0/+1MobileScrobbler has been updated for firmware 1.1.3. See http://c99koder.livejournal.com/177816.html for details.
- chemman14, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1yeah im having the same damn problem :(
- cipher121, on 01/27/2008, -0/+1Not that any of us care about legality, but thanks for the info.
- streetr8cer13, on 01/26/2008, -0/+1this isnt just any massage though, its an error massage
- SuperSunny, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Trying on touch
- inactive, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1same problem here ...
- greenguy27, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Seems to have worked. I had to reinstall my apps to get them to show up. Still takes me two tries to sync because it cant find the disk. Maybe just maybe I can rent a movie and finally have something I can hear the sound.
- streetr8cer13, on 01/26/2008, -0/+1i got mine to work (using the mac version) however after the soft update my ipod version does read 1.1.3, i can install/run apps as normal but none of the new 1.1.3 features seem to be working such as shifting icons and web clips. anyone else get similar results?
(i downgraded then upgraded to 1.1.3 again to make sure it wasn't a bad install and it happened again so i have no clue) - streetr8cer13, on 01/26/2008, -0/+1yes im having the same problem as well, it is part of the firmware update and not the apps you pay for correct?
- streetr8cer13, on 01/26/2008, -0/+1even though it errored and crashed, levae it alone, it still worked and will reboot your ipod into 1.1.3 when its done. its in the FAQ here
