- planetbeing, on 01/25/2008, -0/+19No. These jailbreaks do not give away sensitive information regarding how we retrieved the ramdisk and ASR keys (which is a prerequisite for this version). That's why many members of the team, including myself, are perfectly fine with Nate's release (well, not the chown bugs in it). Some members of the team were NOT okay with it, however, because of the aforementioned copyright issues.
However, all of us were a little upset because he did not check with us before deciding to independently release this, and before a consensus could be reached. You have to admit that it's a little difficult to trust someone after they have done that. In addition, we couldn't help him test it and identify the bugs that are in it before it was released. Personally, I think Nate's a cool guy, but I do think he bungled on this one. - ricodued, on 01/25/2008, -2/+21The guy who released this released the jailbreak against the wishes of the rest of the dev team who did indeed want to wait until the SDK. That's why he's been 'fired' from the dev team heh.
- harryterry, on 01/25/2008, -0/+13just get it done with the ipod touch....
- nreynolds, on 01/25/2008, -1/+12make up your damn mind.
- Xcel, on 01/25/2008, -3/+13What happened to waiting until the SDK is released?
- mikev, on 01/25/2008, -2/+12it didn't brick your phone. you screwed up and had to restore.
- drewfer, on 01/25/2008, -3/+13Warning: this jailbreak leads to problems with the Locate Me feature in Google Maps. Seems a little off for my liking, gonna wait till February...
- inactive, on 01/25/2008, -1/+9The locate me feature has always been a little off.
- modusop, on 01/25/2008, -0/+8"Bricking" = un-fixable...if you fixed it with a restore it is simply a "mistake"
- joeycerone, on 01/25/2008, -0/+7this is the one for macs - the others are for the PC jailbreak
- drewfer, on 01/25/2008, -6/+12Can I get a hells yea?
- elmetald00d, on 01/25/2008, -0/+6I doubt you bricked it. restore.
that's not bricking. - Drewboy64, on 01/25/2008, -1/+6Hells yeah!!! : D
- inactive, on 01/25/2008, -1/+5I think I love you more than a friend......
- PHovey, on 01/25/2008, -3/+7awesomeness!
- evensong, on 01/25/2008, -0/+4CAREFUL! On the OSX version, there are no error messages although there may be errors. For me, it could not decrypt and patch the firmware. However, it did not hint at this until I discovered it never uploaded the image to my phone. I would stick to the Windows version until the OSX version is further developed.
- redrighthand, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3pretty soon the jailbreaks will show before the firmware updates
- Swoshmn, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3Mine worked great, upgrading from a jailbroken 1.1.2. Uninstalled all my apps, then reinstalled them, and there has been no crashing.
BE PATIENT when it is in the final step on the actual iPhone of installing the 1.1.3 app from Installer, it looks like it hangs at about 50%, but just let it sit there and it will eventually reset. Thanks to all the wonderful programmers out there to get this to work. It's great having a iBlackjack and a Digg web link sitting next to each other. - Rekzai, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3Did you try going to sources and pressing refresh?
- Karmavs, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3?
- madwh, on 01/25/2008, -1/+4you can use Navizon for iPhone http://www.navizon.com/licenseCheck.asp
- CaptainAO, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2I guess I should have stated that better, I was forced into Recovery mode.
- joeycerone, on 01/25/2008, -0/+21 month - be patient
- highPhone, on 01/26/2008, -0/+2just stick with 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 for now, 1.1.3 is a little tricky to stabilize, I know because i've spent the last 9 hours fiddling with it and am totally burntout :P
- inactive, on 01/25/2008, -3/+5Actual link so you don't have to visit TUAW:
http://cre.ations.net/blog/post/iphone-113-jailbre ... - obey43, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2if i have already upgraded to 1.1.3 is this possible?
i read that downgrading makes the phone part not work, will it come back after downgrade/jailbreak/upgrade? - cheezy321, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Is this just jailbroken and not working for the t-mobile network yet? I have to wait for a copy of anysim, right?
- spargett, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2People want the apps already written still. Even after the SDK comes out it'll take a while before the apps written to it come out. Put some thought into what you're saying before you say it.
- craigp, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2If you're confused about iPhone hacking (and from the threads in this forum, it sounds like a few of you are), try this guide: http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24493
- joeycerone, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2define bricking?
- yablo, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2are you using a PPC mac or intel? the binaries in the jailbreak are compiled for intel, but just by looking at the shellscripts it should error out. iphuc's universal, but the supporting apps (vfdecrypt, sdelta3, dmg2img) only contain intel executable code.
- nailer, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Thanks for the warning. Was that from you, or from the actual 1.1.3 jailbreak doco?
- TheSnuffster, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2If you still have the contract SIM:
http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?p=19226 ... - digganize, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2I am convinced that their is nothing that Apple can do to stop all of the hackers who love to crack new stuff. Their best bet is to just hire them all !
- planetbeing, on 01/25/2008, -1/+3These jailbreaks do not give away sensitive information regarding how we retrieved the ramdisk and ASR keys (which is a prerequisite for this version).
- spargett, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Seems like alot of people trying to upgrade from 1.1.1 instead of 1.1.2 are having problems. I wonder if that has anything to do with. Sounds like there might be something in the 1.1.2 jailbroken phones it relies on.
I'm no expert, that's just was I seem to be observing. - asthmatic, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1I lost my installer app when i updated.
- almighty, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Sure did, and still no luck.
- Karmavs, on 01/25/2008, -1/+2Well, the last batch of 'Bricked' iPhones (unlocked phones updated to 1.1.2) were fixed by the 1.1.3 update, so you can't call them 'un-fixable'
- almighty, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1That did it. Thanks boss.
- aznblondboi, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Does AnySim work on this 1.1.3 firmware or i have to wait till any sim comes out with a new app?
- flibblesan, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1I've gone back to 1.1.2.. On an O2 Pay as you go SIM I had no working GPRS, the Google Maps doesn't work, the mobile iTunes did not load properly..
I'll wait for the official release of the 1.1.3 JB. Hopefully they'll also allow the bootloader to be upgraded, or patches for the non-working applications. - jcdickerson, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1I'm reading too many comments stating that they are having problems - this is not QUITE there yet, IMO. Like a couple of others have commented here, I'm gonna wait it out for a while...
- Mikey9oo, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1bricked my v. 1.1.1
- inactive, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1They are doing you fanny
- Superperson, on 01/25/2008, -1/+2Wow. Thanks again to the hackers.
Takin' the plunge tomorrow afternoon! :) - pakkman781, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1So far, my only problem has been that no ringtones work. The phone simply doesn't make a sound when you select a ringtone, or when a call is received. Everything else seems to work. I upgraded from a fresh 1.1.1 install that was activated and jailbroken. I did get a failed to install error when installing that 1.1.3 soft upgrade package in installer.app, but I rebooted and all seemed okay.
- Kanaka, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1All well and good but its too early and is most likely to be buggy and worse i hear the 1.1.3 firmware itself is probably the most glitchiest firmware to come out from Apple. My phone works fine as it is and i have my icons arranged as i want them already. Everything else is a bonus not a must have. Sitting this one out for now
- jconsi, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Yes, a friend just bricked his v1.1.1. Not sure if it works with that version.
- ThinkBox, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1its cellphone towers.... its never 100% accurate.
