- Bigtruck, on 11/13/2007, -2/+37So how long before the hackers have this one unlocked? Go team haxor!
- drewfer, on 11/12/2007, -5/+22Screw this I'm not downloading. I love my apps too much to give it up for international keyboards.
- inactive, on 11/10/2007, -1/+161 day early. Apple is on the ball.
- modusop, on 11/09/2007, -3/+17The iPod touch update now allows calendar editing.
- aburd, on 11/11/2007, -0/+13The iPhone is cool, but with third party apps it is much much much cooler.
- inactive, on 11/09/2007, -3/+15I guess you have not looked into this. Apple has a contract with AT&T that they have to abide by. Once that is over the cat and mouse games may end.
- Bigtruck, on 11/09/2007, -0/+10Some how I doubt the SDK will allow the phone to be unlocked. That's why I cant wait until February.
- brettschulte, on 11/11/2007, -0/+10It's hacked!
http://digg.com/apple/New_1_1_2_iphone_firmware_ha ... - ZPWeeks, on 11/09/2007, -0/+9Obviously you don't mind, so don't let the people who are curious / willing to risk their iPhones bother you.
- zip22, on 11/09/2007, -1/+10you're right, apple should leave the exploit open that allows code to run arbitrarily...
its a security hole and they're fixing it. they are releasing an official sdk in february. i think it should have been there from the start, but i find no fault in them patching a gaping hole. - CatFood, on 11/09/2007, -1/+10Apple gets about $400 a year for every iPhone in operation from AT&T. As long as they have that agreement you better believe Apple will be playing cat-mouse games.
- goofygarber, on 11/09/2007, -0/+9Why would you ever do the update? Just wait a week until its been properly cracked and jailbroken and then update. I sure don't plan on it. I can't believe some people would try this assuming their phone would stay open.
- SenatorChubby, on 11/09/2007, -2/+10No it's an "i" Phone bro. You forgot the "i".
- Rekzai, on 11/09/2007, -1/+9There is a package to fix the Tiff Exploit in installer.app
- luchid, on 11/09/2007, -0/+8It backs up the phone data and wipes everything else. So, yet it will delete third party apps and relock your phone.
- dansmeek, on 11/13/2007, -1/+9remember everyone, just because the TIFF exploit no longer works does not mean other exploits such as iNdependent won't work. Look up the info on how to 1.1.1 hack the iPhone with iND, and try the same hack with 1.1.2. It may very well work (albeit a little more complex from the TIFF exploit). I'd try it myself but I don't want to go 3 hours straight fixing my phone for an international keyboard, disk mode, and a 'faster' OS (I never noticed any slowdown with 1.1.1....)
- xero9, on 11/09/2007, -0/+8And pay Apple for apps? Pfft
- BlueStreak69, on 11/13/2007, -1/+8When you install this update does it delete your third party apps or does it just patch the TIFF exploit?
- KibibyteBrain, on 11/09/2007, -1/+8Well, if you didn't want to hack your iPhone, you had better get this, as you will be vulnerable to the Tiff exploit without it.
- bhattsan, on 11/10/2007, -1/+7You do realize that is the entire OS install, right?
- inactive, on 11/09/2007, -0/+6 Bottom line is apple has yet to release an update worth giving up my 3rd party apps for.
- djrbx, on 11/09/2007, -0/+6Okay, this goes to all the people that say why can't you wait till the SDK comes out on Feb.
Well first thing, as long as I don't unlock my phone, I can always do a restore and my phone returns to its factory state, fully upgradeable.
Second, Why wait till Feb when I can use 3rd party applications right now.
Third, Just cause Apple will release an SDK doesn't mean it will be better than the "scene", so don't act like the SDK will be end all rule all for applications for the iPhone.
IMO, I love my jailbroken iPhone, it works great. And I do admit as of right now, there are no applications to entice an average user into jailbreaking his or her iPhone besides free custom ringtones. People jailbreak because it is something new to learn and it's also nice to have a unique iPhone compared to the majority of the market that don't even know what jailbreak is, much more putting music onto the phone (yes there are people that do not know how to use itunes and buy the iPhone just for the browser *cough*my dad *cough*.
That being said, I can't wait till the SDK comes out on Feb so until then, I'll wait out on this update and stick to my jailbroken 1.1.1 iPhone and enjoy the mediocre games (great work though) and custom interface over international keyboard that I'll prolly never use. - nace33, on 11/10/2007, -0/+6Ringtones are separated by custom and normal.
- ZPWeeks, on 11/09/2007, -1/+7Someone *else* hasn't looked into this, too. Michael Coe, spokesman for AT&T: “The company that decides which third-party apps go on the iPhone is Apple...”
(http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/10/01/att-welco ...
And the cat-and-mouse game will end in February unless Apple is too restrictive with who gets the SDK: http://developer.apple.com/iphone/devcenter/third_ ... - ZPWeeks, on 11/13/2007, -0/+5Looks like Erica Sadun and some of the other iPhone/iPod Touch hackers have the iPod Touch 1.1.2 firmware cracked already: http://www.tuaw.com/2007/11/09/1-1-2-ipod-touch-ja ...
- angedinoir, on 11/13/2007, -0/+5There's a hack that creates a hard link to the file system to trick the updater to install into a directory off of root, then you just update the individual files via a script, and voila, jailbroken 1.1.2... Except that it won't work if you've already updated it. Hope you guys waited...
- KibibyteBrain, on 11/09/2007, -0/+4...which is why I said for those who did not wish to hack their iPhones...
There are many good reasons for not hacking an iPhone. If you depending on it for work, you'd probably want to be able to take it into an Apple Store and get support in a pinch, and you can't do that with a hacked, etc. - Impulsar, on 11/09/2007, -0/+4custom ringtones only work w/ selected itunes tracks, none of your own music, 'less you use 3rd party apps and break your warranty :(
- plinx, on 11/09/2007, -0/+4Hold shift when you click the update button in iTunes. Specify the .zip file. Profit.
- blkpoetx, on 11/10/2007, -0/+4*** What I notice New about the iphone update 1) Battery Icon in Itunes shows status of iphone charge, 2) You can use your phone while the iphone is Syncing... syncing is going on in background. 3) Iphone bluetooth is recognized differently in leopard... has option to use as modem.. not sure if that was was always there or not.. but doesn't appear to be enable, maybe a software upgrade in leopard. .. that about it.. besides the obvious languages and keyboards. and the new activation screen.
- angedinoir, on 11/09/2007, -0/+4Every update is going to un-jailbreak your phone and will ilkely close whatever exploit was used to gain root access to the phone. So yes, every update will "bone" anyone who's dumb enough to update their phone without waiting for a hack to come out first.
Just enjoy your phone as it is for a while. - garf12, on 11/09/2007, -0/+4Use Itunes
- Sethwm2, on 11/09/2007, -0/+3What do you mean by "has option to use as modem"? Meaning I can use the iPhone as a modem to surf the internet??
- angedinoir, on 11/09/2007, -0/+3Not I says the technologically impaired imp. I wait for my hacking brethren to fix the problem before I put my phone back into retard mode.
- monkeyrun, on 11/09/2007, -3/+6okay... Who the ***** cracked their iPhone and ran the iPhone update. Speak up now, so we'll know you are stupid.
- starkruzr, on 11/09/2007, -0/+3I don't think it's problematic. You just downgrade to 1.0.2, jailbreak, symlink, and upgrade to 1.1.2.
- inactive, on 11/09/2007, -8/+11Are you a ***** retard? This update add no new feature and updating will only lock down your ***** iPhone. Its the PSP scene all over again. "I updated my PSP to 2.71, Can i play ISO on it?"
- inactive, on 11/09/2007, -0/+3that would be nice, maybe i could get my 20 dollars worth out of my overpriced super slow data plan.
- AndrewWiggin, on 11/13/2007, -0/+3Perhaps it was YOU who did not look into this. Apple may let up on the cat and mouse game with respect to jailbreaking, but not unlocking. Rushco was right.
- Moviespo, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2love my 3 party apps.. The iradio rocks.....
- thetinguy, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2They don't care anymore. When the sdk rolls out, no one will need to jailbreak it anymore.
- GREEDOnvrFIRED, on 11/13/2007, -2/+4Just a phone that you cannot bare to pass up a digg post about... to the point where you have to leave a comment. Just a phone shouldn't have such an effect on you.
- starkruzr, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2I would not be surprised if this could still be jailbroken via the downgrade-upgrade method that predated the TIFF jailbreak.
- Catgofire, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2It probably won't be as free as people want it to be, but yeah it'll be better than this.
- PathDaemon, on 11/09/2007, -1/+3Fail (you and the comment system): http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.in ...
- sambapati87, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2how long do you guys think it will take for the new firmware to filter down to the units in the stores? I want to try and get one in the next week or so but I want to jailbreak it immediately.... am i screwed? (for now)
- insertAliasHere, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2Thank you for that little exerp of your life. We are all very interested. But do feel free not to tell us more, ok?
- hypher, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2Or a combination of the two. Downgrade to 1.1.1, tiff exploit or if its already jailbroken:
mv /var/root/Media /var/root/Media_old
ln -s /var/root/Media /
From a terminal. I have no personal desire to test this one out. I just upgraded to 1.1.1 two days ago. - starkruzr, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2Why *should* I just wait 'till February?
- luchid, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1Safest bet would be an AT6T store... They are slow to move stock...
