- benkula, on 10/11/2007, -1/+42You've been able to do this all along. It's not new to 1.1.1
- deadbaby, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22Sweet. Mono audio. My Louis Armstrong collection is going to sound amazing on this.
- Aeric, on 10/10/2007, -5/+18PLEASE!!! Can we get a digg filter so i can put iphone in there... jeez
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+17Apple was Microsoft way before Microsoft was ever Microsoft. Its just the turtle neck shield that prevented people from seeing it.
- pimpinaintez, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16Why wasn't this implemented initially? Almost all blue tooth phones (pda's) have had this standardized at least a year ago though a2dp v. 2 . They are down on their blue tooth version and not having A2DP enabled. Thats why i don't think its worth the money
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+11Unleases... ?
- lnfiniteLoop, on 10/10/2007, -25/+35Because Apple's the new Microsoft.
- kmotiv1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+81.1.1 fixed my screen "polka dots". Everybody is bitching about all the things it locked down, but it definitely fixed a few items as well. I'm surprised that no one else mentioned this at all. We're a bunch of whiny bastards.
- vinnyvenus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7You were able to do this since intial release of iphone
- mikesbaker, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8wow apple finally got something you can do with most other new phones
- BarriedaleNick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Unleases! In mono. and the speaker is still on. How very retro!
- jstevewhite, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that bluetooth headphones fundamentally suck? I've had several A2DP phones (The PPC6700, the Blackberry 8830, and a couple others I can't remember the name of ) and stereo was merely tolerable via four different sets of BT headphones, ranging from a cheap ass "Gold Lantern" set to the Motorola S9 (which are the best of the bunch), and they all suck for critical listening. The S9s are decent enough to go running, but I would claw my eyes out if I kicked back to listen to, say, 'Wish You Were Here", or "Bolero" with them on. I've not encountered anyone who couldn't tell a CLEAR difference between any of my bluetooth headsets and my Sennheiser PX100s.
If you put on your bluetooth headsets, sit down, dim the lights, and close your eyes, and listen to some songs that you know really well, you'll probably be able to discern bits of certain frequencies that sound almost granulated (it's some kind of digital artifacting). However, once you DO hear it, you can't STOP hearing it, so if you like your BT setup, don't do it (I've replicated this on several different combinations of headphone and audio source ). - SirZRX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5the iphone bluetooth chipset supports A2DP, but is capped by software...what a shame
- youareretarded, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Don't get excited, this is a bug not a feature.
For one: its mono
Two: you sound still comes out of your speakers
Three: It looks like it gets activated via a bug in visual voice mail. - toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7The conspiracy nut in me suspects they built in a flaw so they'd have an excuse to zapp the phone again shortly.
- johnpaul191, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4well, it is literally the first phone Apple has made and sold. i would be curious what changes in the next major revision, and maybe when the AT&T exclusivity is up. i realize that's rumored to be almost 5 years away, but how long have Nokia and other made phones?
you may see the iPhone as lagging, but i wonder why the experienced phone makers are so far behind Apple in other areas. there really are a few things where the iPhone beats out the experienced manufacturers. - kettlechips, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Because his earlier works were recorded in mono!
- Gutterpunk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4If you coded anything in your life, you'd know that one doesn't need create bugs on purpose for them to be there.
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Then next gen iphone will support A2DP. It will cost another 600 bucks. Apple is planing on keeping the hardware the same for the next couple of years and call software changes new generations.
- colonels1020, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Apple: "That's not a bug, it's a feature."
- theone3, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5[citation needed]
...
sorry, too long on wikipedia.. but seriously.. citation needed. - s0ny, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5How about you just dont click on iPhone topics! douchebag
- kelchm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I don't know that unleashes is exactly the right word to describe mono bluetooth audio.
- markdr123, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Yahoo Pipes.
- 80hd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2iPhone buddy. The touch has BT software but is lacking a bluetooth radio.
- llsethj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2AOLEngadget are *****. They cut and paste an Apple insider story and publish it as their own then submit it to Digg.
- rickcarson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The great thing about not having the iPhone in my country yet, is that when tele-marketers ring up offering me a "free" phone, I can turn them down and say that I'm waiting for the iPhone and nothing else will do and I don't want to get locked into a contract before it comes out.
And then _they_ are the ones who get annoyed and hang up on _me_. :D
I now understand why they call it the JesusPhone, because that is surely a God-send. - seahaven, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4this iphone story is disturbing me, we dont have it yet here in our country and it is always on digg....
- rickcarson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Is that a Laptop in your pocket or... oh wait... it is... never mind //backs away slowly
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I'm guessing a confused look on your face is pretty natural. Just go with it.
- wazzledoozle2, on 10/10/2007, -5/+6You can digg down the truth, but the truth doesn't change.
- theone3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2wrong.
I finished it! - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1perfect for the iphone music app
http://seeqpod.com/iphone - pintomp3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1how about bluetooth dun?
- pintomp3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1comment system needs a cancel option.
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Consider yourself lucky. At list point wait 6 months, the newton will come out. Wait another six months and the newton phone will come out. So if you want a real smart phone made by apple, wait a year. Otherwise get a windows mobile 6 or a linux based device.
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Because a company just bricked it's customers phones. That is big news. The pending lawsuits are going to determine whether a manufacturer is allowed to purpose disable your device for doing something that it doesn't like. It's apple vs all consumers in this country. Just hope the consumer wins.
- pimpinaintez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Actually, the PPC6700 (xv6700 variant) was never meant to be a blue tooth a2dp phone. It was hacked on (and much better than the Iphone hack because the hack was stereo not mono) and it didn't have any of the issues the NEW Iphone has (mono, speaker has to be on, etc). I currently have a xv6700 and the stereo on it is fantastic (I am using the Freepulse by Logitech). You cant blame the phone or A2DP because of shotty headphones. You can, however, blame Apple for making a music driven phone that doesn't have the basic music functionality of PDA's that are currently sold.
- p51d007, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3LMAO..........wait until apple and steve "blow" jobs pushes out another patch to take that away.....THEN charge you to
put it back in. Love him or hate him...he's smart when it comes to marketing. Hell, he should have been a crack dealer.
GIVE it away to get you dumbasses hooked, then take it away and charge you out the ass for it. - hiro, on 10/10/2007, -5/+5"Why wasn't this implemented initially?"
Let's face it, the iPhone is behind every other smartphone in every other respect so why not audio? - thailand1972, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Beatles too. Happiness is a Bricked Phone.
- theone3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Wifi, not bluetooth, and it doesn't support A2DP either.
- don02, on 02/23/2008, -0/+0hi.........
This is great info n thx for sharing
Check out this site for great music http://musiktag.eu/ - thailand1972, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Agree - it is amusing how all the Apple fanboys are now saying "I'm sick of hearing about the iPhone!" just because it's bad publicity
- superbb3, on 02/20/2008, -0/+0Great!
and if you still want some music to fill up your mp3 player, you should visit here: http://www.mp3monsters.biz - don02, on 02/23/2008, -0/+0This is a great info abt blue tooth thx for sharing it
Check out this great site for best in music
http://musiktag.eu/ - SquidProQuo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Any idea if the IPod Touch is going to get the same treatment? Or does it have Bluetoooth in it at all?
- thailand1972, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Better still, get an original Nokia mark 2 phone. It takes calls, it makes calls, it does text messages. It does all the things a phone should do. All of the iPhone gimmicks are covered by your laptop, only 100 times better, like surfing the web and email.
- doublsh0t, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1exactly--there are numerous phones that can do this already...motorola q9m for example
