- ckohler, on 10/14/2007, -1/+51David, where can I donate to help you create more great stuff like this? Seriously, you're making this stuff and just giving it away. You deserve a little return incentive, man.
- Publictivity, on 10/14/2007, -1/+32Wow... again. like steve jobs would say: BOOM
- totorototoro, on 10/11/2007, -1/+31Now if Apple were serious about this server side Web 2.0 interface stuff...THEY would host this stuff free of charge.
- davidcann, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21It may not be obvious, but you can flick left/right to cycle through your multiple conversations.
- bellisland, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20Under Known Issue's on the App: "Works in Firefox and Safari, but not IE."
I call that a feature - rstrb8r, on 10/11/2007, -4/+211. This is not a secure page, Diggers
2. Javascript could be pulling AOL name and password
3. Even if the app doesn't pull AOL name and password, a hacker could
Marked as friggin' scary that Diggers are doing this... - iFungus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17For it to be really BOOM on launch, we should donate to help him pay for good hosting
- ocellnuri, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17@waylandchin: The iPhone's "iChat" is just text messaging with bubbles. Not real Instant Messaging.
- Alegoo92, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17yeah please open a paypal donation account- I'd help out!
- gsnd, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Where do I go to pay you?
- ablez3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Server intensive?
haha...thanks for submitting this to Digg. - Publictivity, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11hmm, it's weird. We have this all hosted on macintoshes. I'm looking at the activity monitor and theres still a decent amount of RAM left. We have the bandwidth to handle this for sure. Any suggestions?
- tapo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9David: Is there any way you could make this use a Jabber backend instead of BlueTOC? You can then install some plugins server-side and allow this app to message over multiple protocols (Yahoo, MSN, GTalk).
- htdub, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9I really *miss* the iPhone hand model guy.
Well Done David! - Sagags, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12For those who really want to use this on your iPhone then go here
http://www.publictivity.com/im/
the other page has a virtual iPhone which you wont need once you have a real iPhone - haykuro, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7sry for comment abuse but...
IM yourself and then reply using one of these:

I dont give a ***** you spammer, all your comments are about that lame ass sms site. - knelto, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Pretty freakin' sweet, dude. You're onto some awesome stuff here.
- Radan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Now, this is what I call Web 2.0, and it doesn't even have shiny buttons (that's a good thing). Now, hurry up and give me my Skype client already! :)
- tapo, on 10/11/2007, -8/+14Meebo.
Honestly dude, wtf? - Jeffrey903, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I am in the process of creating an iPhone App aswell. It isn't as cool as this one, but it has potential. I'm working on finishing it up and polishing some of the features (some I won't be able to do until I have an actual iPhone and see how much interaction there is between Safari and the iPhone's features). Look for me posting it on Digg either tonight or tomorrow.
- etandrib, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5You can get the source code and just host it yourself. We'll be hosting a version on our company server so it is lightning fast :)
- zackkitzmiller, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Guy?
- davidcann, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Cool. I'd love to see how you're implementing MSN/AIM/Yahoo/Jabber... this is my first adventure into instant messaging services, so I have a lot to learn.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4You honestly can't find the reply button? Learn to read! Right side of the screen!
:P - Sagags, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5the url for the iPhone version is in the virtual iPhone browser url bar
which is
http://www.publictivity.com/im/ - hockeythug, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4See, their is this great feature called "tabbed browsing" on Safari and other clients. Look into it. And guess what? Its on the iPhone as well.
- cyclonus5150, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Also, I strongly suspect that eventually we'll be able to develop these apps widget style using the dashcode IDE. When that happens, things could get very interesting. Also consider Google Gears....perhaps that's going to be baked into iPhone? Steve's really REALLY hot on hybrid web/desktop client apps right now so I wouldn't be suprised.
Also another thought...since nobody is really saying much about Flash on the iPhone, I'm thinking that maybe Adobe and Apple are working on some sort of unique Apollo integration in the future to maybe provide an actual iPhone SDK and iPhone will get full Flash support when they feel like they've got a solid, secure solution in place. Your thoughts? - GreenPlastik, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3While both your apps are amazing in overall design and interface, I have a question about this one. If there is no keyboard on the screen in the chat and there is no hard-key keyboard, how is the user entering the text?
- pogitalonx, on 10/17/2007, -0/+3Is there a way to make this keep you logged in even if you aren't currently "browsing" it? That way you could close safari on the iphone, then come back later and get all your missed messages or pick up on old conversations?? It would be fine if you hosted it yourself (as I plan on doing and I assume many others are too)
- jeffgtr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I thought the iphone was cool, but I didn't think I would buy one until the dust settled and the 2nd gen was out. Now that we are starting to see some pretty cool 3rd party apps I think to myself. Hmmmm I do have the day off on the 29th.
- Publictivity, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3source code is on the page for download.
- mikev, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I don't think Skype would be possible over a web browser. :| Dammit, I bet AT&T is the reason why we can't have 3rd party apps (VOIP would kill them)
- stevekeller, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3great work (once again).
is there any way that this application can pull information from the iPhone address book and then update the AIM user names with their address book name? - RiverBelow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3*****, now you've got me scared.
- cyclonus5150, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Fantastic job! Thanks so much for your work.
Oh and folks, this is an app that's actually designed for iPhone with iPhone navigation in mind. Meebo is not. - mkayatta, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2is it possible to get skype set up like that. if so, that' would friggin incredible. i doubt they'll let the microphone work in those apps though. that would totally kill at&t.
- JePe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22 words: tabbed browsing
edit: hockey beat me - jkoke, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I would assume that when text needs to be entered into a Web text field, the keyboard would appear, or be accessible. Otherwise, the Web would pretty much suck.
- jkoke, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I'm sorry, but I don't think DIGG is your own personal help desk. Please go to www.apple.com/iphone and www.att.com/iphone, or even better en.wikipedia.org/iphone to find the answers to your questions. Yes, it requires you to read. Sorry Again.
- jkoke, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Hmmm. Looks like no one cares. But, for the record, I found your wild speculation fascinating. Keep it up.
- whurley, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Hey all, we're hosting iPhoneDevCamp right after the release, check it out here and please feel free to promote it to your friends:
http://digg.com/apple/Introducing_iPhone_Developers_Camp
It's BarCamp style, so there's no charge to get in, and we'll want everyone to participate to help make the event successful. - jdelsman, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Not really working for me (can't log in), but I believe its because its getting the digg-effect.
I'm in the process of making an MSN/AIM/Yahoo/Jabber equiv. - darkten, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I use iChat everyday, but its been so long since i had the chat bubbles on that i forgot how *irritating* they are :) Adding the icons would be sweet, but the toggling of the chat bubbles is way more important :) I'd like so be joyfully pleased if that was an option.
- darkten, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2no. you cannot get any data from the phone app whatsover.
- awhiteflame, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Is this scrolling code necessary? At the WWDC Keynote, Jobs seemed to imply that the scrolling would automatically be implemented if you just fed it straight, plain lists.
- BdeRWest, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Dude, that's awesome. Should calm down people's whining.
The only foreseeable problem is volume, though.
Good luck, and I'll be logging on from my iPhone as soon as you provide a URL (and after the 29...)! - cyclonus5150, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2To clarify, in case anyone cares, Apollo is based on Apple's WebKit. That's where I'm coming from with the Apollo theory.
- jeffgtr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yes yes, good feature
- shooby, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Anyone consider MEEBO as a potential purchaser of this app?
