- JasonCox, on 06/23/2009, -6/+76Thank you Internets, I would have never put two and two together that Stupid People + Phone With Huge Piece Of Glass = Breakage.
- FearlessFreep, on 06/23/2009, -1/+62"accident-prone nature of Apple’s line of smartphones"
you mean accident-prone nature of iPhone USERS - harrythe3rd, on 06/23/2009, -3/+59Wow, I still have a first-gen that I got on day one and its still working.
- surfernerd6987, on 06/23/2009, -1/+35And what do you get for failing elementary English?
- Elijah17, on 06/23/2009, -0/+33Why the hell do people put their phones in their back pockets?!?
- JshMRsn, on 06/23/2009, -6/+37Before I had a usable mobile browser, I hardly used my phone. Now I'm using the iPhone pretty much whenever I'm away from home and not driving. I imagine this makes it much more likely that it will get dropped.
- GeorgeStone2, on 06/23/2009, -0/+19I've had mine for about 1 year and it's still working.
The screen is smashed to bits (About 100+ cracks. It shattered on impact) but after I wrapped it up in sticky tape, it still works fine.
Bit hard to read text messages sometimes.
Funnily enough everyone who see's my iPhone and has one buys a case soon after :P
I'm just going to wait for this contract to end now and get a 3gs.
1st gen iPhone is pretty balls anyway if I'm honest.
I still use my Nokia 6600 for GPS in my car. - sourc3, on 06/23/2009, -9/+25It's probably because of the demographic now purchasing the iPhone. With WinMo/BB/etc., the primary target is businessmen who are generally responsible (at least with their OWN money/possessions - looking at YOU AIG) and are typically in environments without much potential for breakage. With the iPhone, you get all the tweenies and wannabe hipsters who buy the phone to look cool, but could care less about caring for it, as well as a large contingent of people who buy the phone because "everyone else is doing it" without ensuring that they properly handle and protect the device. Any standard phone will break if dropped from sufficient height.
I loved my iPhone when I had it, but decided it wasn't worth the monthly contract after a while. Maybe if/when the prices of contracts come down, or I can't get 90% of the same stuff with the iPod Touch, I'll consider going back. - hawkspur, on 06/23/2009, -0/+16***** your spamming *****.
- goudkamp, on 06/23/2009, -1/+15Those 20% are suckers, have an iPhone since it came out and I dropped it many times (or people dropped it for me). it's NOT a tank like the Nokia 2110. But damn, you pay more than $500 for an item, just don't destroy it !
- bwhite, on 06/23/2009, -3/+15I've dropped mine 5 or 6 times on my concrete floor and it once fell out of my pocket about 4 feet on the cement. My 3G is still intact and only has scratches/general use marks because I don't use a case.
- rharris, on 06/23/2009, -1/+13That's what they get for trying to butt dial with it.
- majortom1981, on 06/23/2009, -4/+15Lol typical hypocrite. Bashing a microsoft fan article with an apple fanboy response.
- GraceHead, on 06/23/2009, -0/+11perfect use for transparent crystal aluminum?
- m00nmaster, on 06/23/2009, -0/+11My butt just hung up on you.
- danpat, on 06/23/2009, -1/+11Way to state the bleeding obvious. Big glass screen = high percentage of cracked screens.
In other news, nearly all motor vehicles run out of fuel when driven. May have car manufacturers concerned of possible class action suit. - SteveMax, on 06/23/2009, -0/+9Do you work for Apple? Did you design the iPhone? If not, why do you say "microsoft is copying *us*"?
- raydeen, on 06/23/2009, -0/+9Me fail english? That's unpossible!
- CheeseburgerBro, on 06/23/2009, -0/+9Glass breaks?
Damn. NOW you tell me. - MacParrot, on 06/23/2009, -1/+10He get's to say, "Would you like fries with that?" a lot.
Or maybe "wood u lik frys wit dat?" - wTheOnew, on 06/23/2009, -0/+8I'm a user of many Microsoft products, and I think you're right. I'm not intelligent enough to understand why you've bought three very nice and very expensive phones when the first one still works. That concept is just way over my little prole's mind.
- veriix, on 06/23/2009, -0/+8That’s adorable! Who's the little macwhore? That's right! You are! You're the best little macwhore there is!
- uknowwhoibe, on 06/23/2009, -0/+8Yeah, I've had mine since day one and it is working like a champ.
- BubbaChet, on 06/23/2009, -0/+7Did anyone RTFA? The failure rate for the iPhone is LOWER than the BlackBerry or Treo, and only 31% of iPhone failures at 22 months are total failures. I'd like to see what the percentage of the other phones' total failure rate is.
This is crap journalism. The title doesn't reflect the content whatsoever. The only mention of the 'accident magnet' is when the author gives his opinion that the back of the iPhone is slippery. - wTheOnew, on 06/23/2009, -0/+7Slide to unlock?
I think I'll pass this time... - WITFITS, on 06/23/2009, -2/+8In all fairness, CNET's Natalie Del Conte may be skewing those iPhone stats a bit.
- FXNGLAS, on 06/23/2009, -4/+10Your phone survived a washing machine? Forgive me when I say cough ******* cough
- etx313, on 06/23/2009, -1/+7Also an ego magnet.
- JshMRsn, on 06/23/2009, -1/+7Same. Mine even survived the washing machine, although I certainly wouldn't say that's normal of even the iPhone.
- bcr8u, on 06/23/2009, -0/+6I drop it on my face when I try to use it while lying down.
- GeorgeStone2, on 06/23/2009, -0/+6If you wanted to get your URL seen, why the hell did you bash the iPhone haha.
Link spam AND iPhone bashing is a sure way to get buried. - Sloi, on 06/23/2009, -3/+8I've had my iPhone 3G since last August and I've always treated it like a little princess.
- uknowwhoibe, on 06/23/2009, -1/+6You forgot the MLIA.
- MacParrot, on 06/23/2009, -1/+6You have finger-flickable icons on your ass? Who knew?
- borez, on 06/23/2009, -0/+5£150 in the UK to have them repaired as well, as my mate found out the hard way.
- AmusedToDeath, on 06/23/2009, -2/+7Two words: resale value.
- SpinningHead, on 06/23/2009, -0/+5Throw me the whip! I throw you the idol!
- nicc, on 06/23/2009, -0/+5and I dont know anyone who HAS had to replace their iPhone...
- Astrad, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4What'd you do with the body?
- BrendanSheehan, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4Dropping something doesn't make you stupid, that's why it's called an accident.
- FearlessFreep, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4"No, not the crack slam!"
- Grazfather, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4that doesn't change the 20% figure.
- kspanks04, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4How does this compare to other phones with large screens?
- Zippo, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3*****, I think I'd ***** a brick if I realized I had let my iPhone go into the washing machine.
- danielwsmithee, on 06/23/2009, -1/+4I've had 3 cell phones and all got cracked displays within a year or so. I've had my iPhone for a year and still no cracks. I hope it stays that way.
- strictnein, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3Two words
- Pardis, on 06/23/2009, -2/+5because most iPhone users do not put it into a case that offers some protection, you know it's the Hey look I have an iPhone syndrome, everyone must see that I have one. so no case = more chance of getting damaged when dropped.
- MacParrot, on 06/23/2009, -3/+6alanr19 is a troll of the worst type. He used to spend a lot of time bashing Apple products until people ignored him, now he's bashing Microsoft for the same reason.
It's seems to be the only way people will talk to him - ummmmmmmmmm, on 06/23/2009, -1/+4i've had my iphone 3g for about 7 months, dropped it a few times, and it hasn't cracked yet. i use a silicone jacket with a film protector for the screen. one of my cats scratched the screen once and i removed the film protector to see if the scratch got through to the actual surface. it didn't.
don't be a fool, wrap your tool. - Megor, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3All people are dumb, except me.
