- fideli, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You think this is bad? Creative uses IPODS in their ads!
- frem001, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3he he he sony did the same thing by using a powerbook, i'm sure it's done on purpose by creatives and they make a good point. I mean what computer would they use that wouldn't be fugly?
- BeerTooth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2cough spelling cough
- yoops, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"I think this goes along with the fact that until recently, most computers in tv and movies had apple-like interfaces. These ad companies must be pretty mac-friendly."
Almost all ad/graphic related agencies use Macs as their default. This also goes for professional graphics/movie editing/art ect. You might not notice but the most of the entertainment industry revolves around macs. You think everyone uses PCs is because it is standard in regular home use. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the dude who said its a fukin dell ur a dubass apples have

AFAIK, they own a handful of non-voting shares. It's certainly not even close to 20%.
digg++. Amusing enough to make me laugh == good addition to news page. - heinousjay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ah, zealotry, as perpetuated by Digg's young teenage adherents. It's so much fun watching you children refuse to grow.
- rizon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4just in case microsoft decides to change the ad, here's a screenshot:
http://img256.imageshack.us/my.php?image=microsoftibook6gm.png - evilneuro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe this is just a surrepticious way to cross-sell VirtualPC for the Mac? :)
- wunderwood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I bet the designer just bought some stock photo and didn't rely realize what kind of computer it was. It's funny.
- blhack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1welcome to the latest apple lemming circle-jerk.
I swear you guys are worse the the ford/chevy hicks that we have in north dakota. Macs have their place and so do pcs. Windows is a terrific operating system for its intended use. So is mac. If any of you ever start working with pro tools you're gonna realize in a hurry that your PC isn't gonna work so well. However, if you buy a mac you are quickly going to realize that there are a lot of applictions/hardware that simply WON"T work on your computer. No, steve jobs is not god, hes just really good at taking one idea and running with it (the ipod, i mean, c'mon apple, lets see something other than an mp3 player).
doesn't anybody see who retarded it is of you guys to all loose your minds over some tiny photo of the corner of a laptop that COULD probably be an apple product!!!!!111.
OMFG! the trucks that take the paint to the ford plant are made by chevy!!!!! OMFG! OMFG!!! DIGG.COM!!!!!!!!!!!!1 - persecuted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A omen of the future this is.
- Byrns5512, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What i think is funny is that I am sure this was inserted into the download box because it conveyed a sense of something being transferred to a computer via wire (what with that fiery glow and all). This is, of course, the shot of the power port.
- aristan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Microsoft has done it before... it's all about how good the ad looks. Here's one they put up last year that features a PowerBook (an ancient one) as the best device to play video games on.
http://flickr.com/photos/aristan/72054685/
Barely related, but here's one where they tried to prove that FrontPage 2003 writes clean code... and opened a paragraph with a close paragraph tag:
http://flickr.com/photos/aristan/72055348/ - FredB7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1About the "Doesn't Microsoft own 20% Of Apple.", and other bs:
Can't you people use google?
"In 1997, MS purchased $150 million in NON VOTING stock. Apple, at the time had over $5 BILLION dollars cash in the bank.
MS has long since sold the NON VOTING stock (in 2001, it was totally gone).
Don’t perpetuate non-truths, learn the truth." - mattclare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As I noted on my blog a while ago www.mircorsoft.com/piracy used to have an iBook as their pirate's computer.
The two month old picture is still at: http://mattclare.ca/wordpress/2005/09/29/ibook-pirate/
If only I'd known so many diggers wanted to know when Microsoft points a camera at an Apple. - Matrixsjd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1blurtheimage, it's an iBook because the power port on the iBook is on the right side, and on the powerbooks it's on the left.
- redrighthand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It seems like a common enough "mistake?" I'm sure it was does for the aesthetics of the image and who aside from creatives or Apple owners would ever even notice? I think Apple in the past had shown iPods plugged into HP's simply because they were trying to make Windows users realize that the iPod is in fact cross-compatible, hence the HP iPod campaign. It's cool to see but ask anybody who is not familiar with an iBook and see if they say anything.
- jsuplido, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Clicking on that iBook pic will lead you to another page where we *still* see the same iBook pic. :)
- Morph_Ball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The upper part on the keyboard face IS grey.
Take a look at this hi-rez image from Apple
http://images.apple.com/r/store/gallery/ibookg4/images/ibookg4_rightside_2004.jpg
It's definetly an iBook, make no mistake~ - kevinski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Do realize that many graphic designers tend to use Macs, and they're always caught sneaking Mac hardware and interfaces into their work. I've also seen a Gateway Web support poster in which their Web page is shown inside a Mac OS browser window. Funny.
- Carbito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is probably a clever advertising technique by Microsoft. Just look how many people are visiting this site because of that ad...now thats effective marketing ;)
- ashepard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dammit, getty's site doesn't function properly w/ deep links.
iwillhackyou, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That is freking sweet - ashepard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's a getty images stock photo. and no, bill doesn't own getty images, he owns getty's biggest competitor, corbis.

- rinks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Heh heh. Digg.
- shoei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that is hilarious!
- snugsoho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It doesn't surprise me really, Apple laptops are renown to be the best looking available on the market, I've yet to see another laptop manufacturer come anywhere near Apple in terms of design so it's understandable that advertisers would want to feature them to convey a sense chic cutting edge technology from an Apple laptop and apply it to their product/service. It happens quite often, as i type this there is a leaflet pinned to the corkboard to my left for jobcentreplus featuring a young lady in a public library supposedly browsing the jobcentre website using an eMac although ironically, the site isn't compatible with Macs.
- thetbad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I recall the same blunder when they launched their anti-spyware app
- althe3rduww, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lets not forget that bill gates himself use to work for apple, mainly for the soul purpose of getting his hands on the macintosh to make his windows clone of it. Hence Microsoft getting sued later for obviously having apple commented code in their os. (This is documented fact ofcourse) Microsoft has a history of using / copying apple and imagine it will always probably be that way. Microsoft hasn't really "created" anything for the most part, heck they purchased DOS and sold it to IBM, stole the code for windows by getting a macintosh as employees at apple, and even their new security software like antispyware was purchased from giant. And these are only a few of the many instances. Gates is a smart business man which is how he is so wealthy, but he is also the last person I expect to give a flying #@#% about the end users experience. Its this reason that so many mac users are insulted every time they once again see microsoft using someone elses product for their own gain. But lets face it, its practically their company policy to do that.
I for one don't really care about the ibook on the webpage just because of how common place it is for microsoft to do that now. - bondg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now we see why you must be 18+ to vote in the US. Dumbass kids will vote for anything.
Who gives a ***** what king of machine it is? It's a tiny goddamn pic. Get a life. - sp1ke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that is bad ass
- Amplix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0aaah I see it now! ahahahahaa.. +Digg!
- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They had iBooks everywhere on the Vista page, but then they changed them to be all big ugly gray laptops.
- nate007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1hilarious
- superspak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hahaha
- silentauthority, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"It funny what a big deal some are making of this slip up when apple did the same thing in one of their advertisements. The were advertising the iPod and used a HP laptop in the ad. I know it was dugg but I cannot find it. Anyway all I have to say is very hypocritical."
Sigh.. do you not realize that there is different types of iPods? They were advertising the Windows Compatible one, that's kind-of why it has an HP logo on the back, along with the apple. - shrigg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Wonder what computers their ad agency uses? More proof that most creative work happens on Macs...
- squink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's Hilarious
- _Simplistic_, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That Asian dude pwnz.
- orbitalpunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
DOH! - ForbesBingley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's not the first time they've done this, or to be more precise, had this done to them.
The vast majority of design agencies are Ma-based, and when you've got a client like Microsoft who won't pony up for the photo shoot to done professionally, you end up with a quick back-room job done on a consumer digital camera, thus... - computerdude33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can recall the Windows commercial telling you to go to microsoft.com (and show the web page WITH SAFARI!)
- ja450n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0they have an image of the iBook on the page that the image links to as well.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/default.mspx - kensho, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This happened once before as well...with a powerbook g3. I am sure it is from whoever handles the stock-art, not MS itself.
- dickyducky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'm an iBook 12" owner and i can confirm you its really an iBook!!
- HardwareWeenie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In addition to the same laptop image showing on the linked paged, there is also a single button mouse, tell-tale Apple.
- CLIFFosakaJAPAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The reason that this is such a big deal is that Bill Gates really doesn't like Mac products as he did when he first started out. Hell, he didn't even want to see his employees with iPods. There was also the case of the guy who got fired for uploading pics of a bunch of Mac G5s being offloaded from a Truch on the MS campus. It's like showing a TV commercial of a guy drinking Coke with a Pepsi truck in the background...
- Laughingman234, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ah..I was looking at the laptop in his hand...my bad :(
